You’ve just moved into a house. You paid the movers, you put down a deposit and probably paid a few bills in advance. You want savory meals but are short on cash. Plot twist: you don’t have any cookware. The Farberware Classic Stainless Steel 17-piece Cookware Set is the best cookware for those with a very tight budget.
Very affordable and capable 17-piece classic cookware set from Farberware. From cookie sheet to cake pans and everything in between, this set includes everything you need to start cooking.
The Farberware Classic Stainless Steel 17-piece Cookware Set did just fine when put to the test. Its full cap nonstick aluminum and stainless steel construction did pretty well with heat distribution—especially with the stock pots. And since there’s such a variety of pots and pans, baking and cooking most anything was an option. Where its performance is shaky is inside the oven. It is oven safe, but only up to 350-degrees Fahrenheit—a far cry from our top entry, the Cuisinart MCP-12N Multiclad Pro Stainless Steel, which handles 550-degrees F.
For what you pay, the Farberware Classic Stainless Steel 17-piece Cookware Set is surprisingly sturdy. This is because a full cap construction was used. Steel doesn’t do well with heat distribution. So, an aluminum core was added in between two layers of stainless steel; otherwise known as tri-ply. Since aluminum distributes heat well, but is soft, it helps heat your food and doesn’t come off onto your food. However, we wish the sturdiness extended to the black phenolic handles. They look and feel cheap. Constant and consistent use will eventually loosen these. Thankfully, they are dishwasher safe, unlike the entire Rachael Ray 16333 Cucina set.
The Non Stick Farberware Classic 17-piece Stainless Steel Cookware Set isn’t the best thing on the planet—but it doesn’t have to be. What it does provide is a capable set of steel bakeware and cookware for just about any need. You get 17 pieces from this set, which is just 3 less than the 2nd best cook set on our list, the Gotham Steel All In One 20 Piece Nonstick Cookware Set, for $40 less. Given its average performance and overall sturdy design, we can say for sure that the 17 piece cookware set Farberware Classic series has excellent value. If you can spare an extra $40, we’d recommend bumping up to Gotham Steel.
The Farberware Classic Stainless Steel 17-piece Cookware Set is average, at best. Capable and sturdy—but average. That’s not its charm, however. It’s by far the cheapest way to finish your kitchen cabinets with capable cookware that can accommodate just about any meal you can think of, in addition to baking.g.
