As smart plugs continue to make their way to people’s homes across the world, there’s an obvious preference for those that won’t take up too much space on a socket. The Etekcity smart plug happens to fall into this category. This smart outlet also doesn’t come with the need to be connected to a hub so all you need to do is download the Vesync app and you’ll be able to use your phone as a remote control for your connected devices as long as your home Wi-Fi network stays on. Sounds like the best smart outlet for you to start your journey towards a smart home, doesn’t it?

Why We Like It – Etekcity Smart Plug

Fancy running your lights and appliances from the comfort of your couch or bed? The Elekcity Voltson smart plug lets you do just that, regardless of whether you use Google Home or Amazon Echo as your hub. With it you also get to monitor your power usage, so that your electricity bill never comes as a surprise.

Pros
  • Compact size
  • Alexa Google Assistant support
  • Affordable
Cons
  • No support for Apple Homekit

Performance

Using voice control to work your lights or appliances can be lots of fun especially if you’re not really used to Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Again, you’ll need to integrate the two through the VeSync app, but you won’t be able to do the same with Apple Homekit or Samsung’s SmartThings because there’s no support for those yet. On the flipside, the smart Wi-Fi outlet also supports IFTTT unlike the Amazon Smart Plug, so you can use it to have your devices turn on or off following a certain schedule.

Design

Compared to other smart outlets like the Wemo Mini Smart Plug, the Etekcity Wi-Fi smart plug is way smaller at 2.4 x 1.18 x 2.2 inches. It comes in a round shape, and has a power button on the bottom for switching it on or off. All in all, the plug mini looks good for its size, and is a lot more sturdier than most in its price category.

Value

If you want, the smart Wi-fi plug can give you an idea of how much energy the appliances you’ve connected it to consume thanks to its energy monitoring feature. These details are all available through the VeSync app or the Alexa app, where you’ll also be able to set power usage limits to shut down the appliance if it gets past. This mini smart plug can also be bought on Amazon com either as a single item or as a pack of two, three or four plugs just like the GoSund Mini Smart Plug.

Etekcity Smart Plug Wrap Up

If you ask us, we think this is the best smart plug to start out with especially if you don’t want to spend too much on home automation. Its support for Alexa Google Assistant makes it a steal for its price, so you’ll want to make sure you buy enough of them to use in your house.
