Ergonomic Office Chair Lumbar Support Mesh Chair Review
Expert Rating

Founded back in 2000, Smugdesk is a company that was formed to offer good quality, ergonomic office chairs at a pocket friendly price, so that people who can’t fork out $1000 for a chair have an alternative that’s almost or just as good. The Smugdesk ergonomic office chair lives up to this reputation, as it’s even been recognized as Amazon’s choice for the best mesh ergonomic office chair. It’s ergonomic backrest provides decent back support, but we don’t think it’s decent enough for the chair to be ranked on top of the list of the ones that offer the best lumbar support for office chair. If you don’t have a serious back problem, then we think you might want to seriously consider using it, and to help you out in making that decision, make sure you get to the end of this review and see what it has to offer.

Why We Like It – Ergonomic Office Chair Lumbar Support Mesh Chair

The Smug Desk Ergonomic Office Chair Lumbar Support Mesh Chair is an affordable, well designed office chair that’s perfect for your home office, school or workplace. It retails for around $90, has a weight capacity of about 250 pounds, and is also very easy to put together.

  • Easy to assemble
  • 250 pound weight capacity
  • Ergonomic lower back support
  • No substantial warranty policy

The ergonomic backrest on this mesh back chair offers some bit of lower back support, but not the kind that you can adjust. We will however award bonus points for its lumbar support mechanism being consistent with the breathable design of the chair, but it would’ve been a lot better if it was an adjustable lumbar system. Whether or not it has a slight edge over the AmazonBasics High Back Office Chair will depend on your preference for a leather or a mesh back chair, but what we do know is that both chairs allow for 360 degree maneuverability, though the AmazonBasics high back chair might be more expensive.

For a chair to be considered ergonomic, there’s a certain threshold of comfort that it also has to meet. This Smugdesk office chair does meet that threshold, and one of the reasons that it does is its breathable mesh fabric seat. Similar to that of the Homall Chair, the seat does bear a waterfall edge design, and this helps a lot in controlling blood circulation to your feet and reducing pressure on your legs.

The seat height and tilt tension on this ergonomic chair is very easily adjustable, and can be done through the pneumatic controls that you’ll find just below the seat cushion. The chair’s secure tilt lock mechanism allows you to recline up to 125 degrees, and the seat height lever allows you to raise or lower the seat through a height range of about 3 inches, which is also pretty similar to the range you’ll get with the Flash Furniture Mid Back swivel chair.

It goes without saying that ergonomic office chairs that have a mesh back seat are more than capable of keeping you cool and comfortable even after sitting on them for long hours on end. The mesh back backrest allows for air to go through the back seat to have your back well ventilated.

The lower back support that you get from this ergonomic office chair is great for keeping your back in position while you’re working, but if the chair had adjustable lumbar support, then it would be a much better option especially for someone who tends to suffer from a lot of back pain. To its credit, the chair does have a weight capacity of up to 250 pounds, so you shouldn’t have any issues with it if you weigh as much or less.

Ergonomic Office Chair Lumbar Support Mesh Chair Wrap Up

Like most of the products from Smugdesk, this ergonomic chair comes with an after sales service that allows for the chair to be returned or exchanged within the first 30 days, but as you’ll see in the customer reviews that have been left by most customers, most users have been pretty happy with what the chair has to offer, and have never had a reason to return it.
