A monitor that’s meant to be used vertically is definitely something you don’t hear everyday, but the Dell UltraSharp 1909W is exactly that: a monitor that prefers to be set up vertically than horizontally. With high brightness, a 75hz refresh rate, and a stand that can hold up the Dell 1909W, this seems like a solid monitor. Even with subpar speakers and a lack of HDMI or DisplayPort support, the Dell UltraSharp 1909W earns a spot in our list for best vertical monitors and best computer monitors.

Why We Like It – Dell Vertical Monitor

For a low price, the Dell Vertical Monitor offers a vertical monitor with a satisfactory picture. Solid and bright, it does everything it set out to accomplish.

  • Outstanding vertical mount
  • Higher than normal 75 hz refresh rate
  • High image brightness
  • No HDMI or Displayport
  • Speakers are subpar

The Dell UltraSharp 1909W is an IPS display panel that can easily display a full HD picture. Similar to the Dell S2419HGF, except it’s a TN panel type. But, with a response time of 5ms, movement will be smooth and precise. This, along with aspects such as aspect ratio can all be found average amongst the competition. The Dell UltraSharp 1909W won’t win any awards for features, but it’ll get the job done. Still, should you be in the market for a monitor with a bit more updated tech, the BenQ PD2700Q will suit you well.

Viewing Angle

Far and away the best part about the Dell UltraSharp 1909W is the stand that comes included. Already coming with impressive viewing angles, the stand only amplifies them to ensure that you get the best viewing angles available. With Dell insisting you use it as a vertical monitor, this makes this feat all the more impressive.

Even with the ability to mount, the Dell UltraSharp 1909W makes you feel like you don’t have to. With the included mount, the 1909W feels safe and secure, with only the biggest of accidents liable to damage the screen. Even then, with its large bezels, the damage will be kept to a minimum.

The Dell UltraSharp 1909W comes equipped with 4 USB ports and VGA and DVI for input ports. This is an especially odd choice for Dell, as many users now have either HDMI or DisplayPort as their standard input, to include neither alienates many potential buyers. What is included however, is a built-in speaker, and if it were to be phenomenal, it might excuse the lack of ports, however this is not the case. To prioritize speakers over HDMI is almost never the right decision, a lesson that monitors such as the Dell UltraSharp U2515H take to heart.

What keeps the price of the 1909W down is the fact that it seems to be behind in terms of features compared to more modern monitors. While functional, the Dell UltraSharp 1909W looks aged and weather, not only visually but feature-wise as well. While this may have its pros: cons include missing things other monitors, such as the Samsung Business SR650 have standards. In terms of no-nonsense monitors go, the Dell Vertical Monitor is at the top.

Dell Vertical Monitor Wrap Up

Packed with features and quality, the Dell UltraSharp 1909W does its best to keep itself from being a one-trick pony. Coming with a 75hz screen, high brightness and a vertical mount, these are features that should in theory make this a great monitor. However, the Dell UltraSharp 1909W shows its age with problems such as no HDMI ports and subpar speakers. Still, there is a monitor for everyone, and should this be the one for you, the 1909W will ensure the best quality it can provide.
