Is the Casper mattress one of the best mattresses? Read on.
The flagship Casper (aka as The Casper) mattress still remains the hottest-selling product for Casper, the trendy mattress company that had celebrity superstars like Kylie Jenner flaunting their product on Instagram. It is a best-seller at the best online mattress stores.
And the mattress has continued to serve them well over the past few years.
However, since we last reviewed the Casper mattress, the company has undergone a few changes.
Casper has also updated its flagship model (The Casper) for 2018 to include an additional layer of foam, which adds more support for different parts of your body.
Let’s take a look at the updated version in my Casper review. I evaluated the queen-size The Casper mattress priced at $995, an excellent price for everything you get. To find out more about a mattress with technology that increases airflow to keep you cool at night, and a foam that offers long-lasting support, read our Casper essential review.
After ordering my mattress, it took a little under a week to get to my house. My kids were a little dumbfounded that this relatively small box (4.5-feet tall and 1.5-feet wide) contained our new bed.
I’ll be honest; I was a little dumbfounded, too.
The delivery man was kind enough to place the 92-pound box in our entryway while I was at work rather than make my wife drag it in. Luckily, it wasn’t too hard to carry into our room with the box’s carrying handles.
By now, you’ve probably heard how easy it is to set up the Casper mattress.
I was a little disappointed that I didn’t get the little bag with the special plastic cutter that was included with the earlier model. However, that didn’t detract from the simplicity of the installation. Read our Casper sleep essential mattress queen review for an 11″ bed-in-a-box mattress with 3 layers of premium form.
You just take the mattress out of the box, place it on your bed, and rip the plastic off, which you can easily do with your hands. Next, watch it expand, listen to the oohs and ahs from your family—maybe from yourself, too; there’s certainly something mesmerizing about it—and pat yourself on the back for being the cool one for a night.
The Casper mattress doesn’t have any of the embossing or embroidery I’ve come to associate with pillowtop mattresses that look and feel like they’re 20 years old, even when they’re brand new.

It features a simple, stretchy polyester cover that doesn’t get all bunched up when you move at night. You can unzip the cover and remove it with ease at any time for washing.
The mattress itself is made from four separate layers of foam:
Let’s talk about the smell for a minute. The mattress’s biggest downside for me was the smell. Not everyone experiences the “off-gassing” odor commonly associated to foam mattresses. Unfortunately, I was one of the unlucky few who got a smelly mattress.
Thankfully, the solution to this problem is simple. You’ll be tempted to get your sheets on and take the mattress out for a spin as soon as possible, but if you hold off and let it air out, the smell should dissipate after a few hours. And even though I get an unpleasant whiff every so often, it has all but disappeared by now.
The Casper mattress comes in all the standard mattress sizes. Check out the table below to get specifics on sizing and pricing.
Now that we’ve gone through our bedtime routine, so to speak, it’s time to climb into bed and see how well the Casper mattress sleeps.
The first thing I noticed when I got on the mattress was how evenly my body lay. On my old spring mattress, I would sink almost as soon as I got into bed. The Casper mattress helps me feel like I’m sleeping on my mattress instead of in it, which is a huge plus.

I toss and turn a lot in my sleep, which can make it difficult for my wife to sleep undisturbed, especially on a spring mattress.
But…
On the Casper, she doesn’t feel a thing when I move around. The Casper’s firmness and bounce help me reposition with ease and keep her sleeping like a baby.
Sleeping alone is also a pleasant experience in the Casper. Instead of spreading out to relieve pressure like I used to do on my old mattress, I find myself staying in one spot because I don’t feel the constant need to get more comfortable.
I’m a hot sleeper—or at least I was with my old mattress. In my entire time sleeping on the Casper, I’ve stayed cool. This is a huge improvement for someone like me who always has to get out of the sheets halfway through the night to keep from burning alive.
The Casper provides solid support for sleepers of all kinds. Like I mentioned before, I move a lot in my sleep and at any given moment in the night, I could be on my back, side, or stomach. With the Casper, I didn’t experience much discomfort in any of my positions.
Side sleepers experienced the most discomfort with the previous iteration of the Casper, especially if they were lighter or heavier than average. However, with the added Zoned Support layer, that problem has mostly disappeared. And while I experience more pressure relief at my hips and shoulders, I still find sleeping on my side to be the most uncomfortable position on the Casper.
In my opinion, the Casper works best for back sleepers. It all but eliminated my lower back pain since the new Zoned Support layer provides more lumbar support than I’ve ever experienced on a mattress. It also keeps your shoulders and hips on the same plane, which adds a whole new level of comfort. Sleeping on my stomach was equally as comfortable for these same reasons.
The Casper offers a decent amount of edge support. I never feel like I’m going to roll off the bed, even when I’m at an edge. In fact, I feel just as comfortable and secure at the edge of the bed as I do in the middle of the bed. The Casper also doesn’t suffer from severe compression when you sit on the edge. I don’t need to fight the mattress just to stand up from a sitting position, which helps me avoid feeling like I’m getting old. And that will always be a huge point to the favor of the Casper.
What good’s a mattress review if I don’t talk about the sexy times spent on it? Every part of the mattress’s construction is built for comfort and staying cool, a combination that also happens to make for great sex.
The foam is firm enough to provide the right amount of bounce and support. The mattress’s cooling properties also help you avoid all that uncomfortable, post-sex heat.
The updated Casper mattress is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a better sleep experience. It’s comfortable, firm and cool—a combination made even sweeter with a price tag under $1,200.
The updated version of the Casper includes a new fourth layer of foam that provides better support for more sleeping positions, especially side sleepers. I still feel some discomfort while sleeping on my side, and the Casper’s off-gassing odor was really bad for the first few hours, but overall, I’ve had an excellent sleep experience.
Caspers offers three different mattress products, along with a host of accessories. This review focuses on the Casper mattress, which is the company’s original, best-selling mattress.
The Wave is Casper’s premium mattress, selling at a much higher price point ($1850 for a queen). It features five layers of foam for a more ergonomic design.
The Essential is Casper’s budget mattress, selling at $600 for a queen. It features three layers of foam for a more streamlined design.
For their other products, they’ll send you a prepaid shipping label.
If you need to clean the foam, Casper recommends using an enzyme-based cleaner. However, if extensive foam cleaning is needed, Casper recommends calling a professional mattress cleaning service.
