Why We Like It – Canon imageCLASS MF644Cdw

Extremely complicated UI aside, the Canon imageCLASS MF644Cdw manages to deliver excellent quality while providing incredible print speed. And other than a few small issues laser printers normally have, it’s probably some of the best laser printers out in the market right now. Speed

Print speed is an aspect where the Canon imageCLASS MF644Cdw knocks it out of the park. Depending on your quality setting, you can get up to 22 PPM output from this one printer, which is almost twice as much as the Brother MFC-J880DW. It even beats HP’s laserjet pro lineup of printers in terms of print speed. Even a small-scale home office would never be able to take full advantage of that much speed.

Print Quality

If you play around with the quality settings a bit, you can get some pretty high-quality and good-looking prints out of this laser printer. The max print resolution you can select is about 600 DPI. That might not be enough for a photo-quality print scan copy, but again, it’s just a laser printer, so you shouldn’t expect something like that. For high copy resolution, you should look at the Canon Pixma line of printers or the Epson WorkForce ET-4750 instead.

Efficiency

Laser printers consume more power by nature. However, this high-capacity printer is very efficient in terms of toner cartridge usage. In fact, it even puts the more expensive HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 to shame when it comes to ink efficiency. And you can find replacement toner cartridges pretty easily. Advanced Features

It’s a wireless color printer, and it has support for Windows, modern macOS, and even the older OS X. Our only gripe is that the UI is very complicated. A beginner will face problems navigating through the menu. Canon messing up in the software business department is very rare to see, but it is very much evident in the Canon MF644Cdw. If you need a printer with similar features and a similar price tag but a way better UI, the Brother MFC lineup of printers may be a valid replacement. The Brother MFCL2750DW should be good enough in this case.

Value

When it comes to small home printers Canon always prices them aggressively. But unlike the Canon MF445dw, it is a tad bit overpriced. Even then, the Canon Color imageCLASS MF644Cdw never prints out a bad-quality print copy and has copy fax and other office-oriented features. If you just need a color laser printer from the “Canon Print Business” lineup, the Canon imageCLASS MF644Cdw is the better choice.

Overall the Canon imageCLASS MF644Cdw is probably the best color laser printer available at this price. If the downsides of a laser printer don’t bother you much, you can go for it with your eyes closed.
