Blackmagic Cinema Camera

Capture moments and subjects as if you were working on a feature film with the new Blackmagic Cinema Camera that aims to bring the creative performance of film capture to digital video cameras. The compact video camera from Blackmagic Designs is jam-packed with tons of great features that rivals the industry’s best. The Cinema Camera features a 2.5K image sensor with a wide 13 stops of dynamic range for a true digital film camera.

There’s also a built-in SSD recorder, popular open standard uncompressed RAW and compressed file formats, compatibility with quality EF and ZE mount lenses, LCD touchscreen monitoring plus metadata entry and it is compatible with EF and ZE mount lenses, so you can use the lenses you already own. You have full electronic control of your lens, so you can simply point, set iris and focus on command.

Another cool thing about the new camera is that it’s the first to feature built-in metadata entry so your files include information compatible with popular editing software, which speeds up your post production process. Combine that with the included DaVinci Resolve 9 color-correction software (which costs $1,000 on its own) and you’re on your way to capturing video and pictures like a world famous Hollywood pro. The Blackmagic Cinema Camera will be available in July and cost $2,995 (which is priced less than the Canon 5D Mark III).

    Kristie, very useful article, thanks!

  2. That is one nice camera! Although, cropped censor? I love the simplicity of it design and for the price it’s a pretty sweet deal.

I looked at these at NABShow– definite show stealer this year.  Many upsides, only a few downsides.  The biggest downer is that the battery is internal.  While there are alternatives to this, I feel that an interchangeable battery would be nice for those of us that want to run and gun light for more than 2 hours (the length of an average charge).

Is it compatible with the beachtek sound device?

Who needs the beachtek when you have two balanced 1/4″ inputs with 24 bit recording? :D
