The best electric skateboard we tried was easily the RazorX Longboard Electric Skateboard, which features a 125-watt, geared, rear-wheel-drive motor, with kick start functionality, and is made almost entirely out of high quality 5-ply bamboo. It also comes with a handheld remote, which produced an accurate response.
To determine the best electric skateboard for your active lifestyle, we have tried out plenty of top models, testing to ensure they featured capable motors with plenty of get up and go, excelling to speeds of seven to 22 mph, and items with built-in batteries that get at least six miles of use on a single charge. We also liked items that shipped with long-lasting warranties, usually around a year. Keep reading to learn more about the RazorX Longboard Electric Skateboard and the other items on this list.
Award: TOP PICK
WHY WE LIKE IT: Made from high quality 5-ply bamboo, with a kick-to-start, 125-watt, geared, rear-wheel-drive motor and shipping with a fantastic remote control, which allows for effortless operation.

The RazorX Longboard Electric Skateboard is made almost entirely from high grade 5-ply bamboo, with perforated grip tape to help offer a smooth ride. The motor operates via kick start, which is cool, and the included remote control works flawlessly, giving you effortless control over the skateboard. The rechargeable lithium ion battery will get you nearly an hour of continuous use on a single charge (aka 10-12 mile range), which we found to be more than adequate.
Though this model can easily ascend most hills, it can struggle with riders of around 200 pounds, which is still within range of the maximum weight limit of 220 pounds. Additionally, the 125 watt motor is certainly decent, with a top speed of 10 mph, but there are more powerful motors on this list, but these more powerful skateboards tend to be much more expensive (and dangerous). With these specs, this would certainly earn the title of the best scooter for kids.
Award: HONORABLE MENTION
WHY WE LIKE IT: Made from durable components, such as maplewood and fiberglass, with an extremely thin form factor, less than an inch, and a top speed of 22 mph, thanks to dual 380 watt motors, totaling 760 watts of power.

This Teamgee H5 Electric Skateboard is an extremely high quality device, made from fiberglass and maplewood, with a thin form factor, under 0.5 inches, and dual 380 watt motors, 760 watts total, which can reach a maximum speed of 22 mph and travel 11 miles before needing a recharge, the fastest metric on this list. Thes power on offer also makes this the best electric skateboard for hills and the included remote features an easy-to-navigate LCD screen.
Though the motors are indeed powerful, the company recommends a maximum weight of just 200 pounds, which is lower than what is recommended with our top pick. Also, this is a heavy board, at around 19 pounds, which could be frustrating when you are carrying it around. If you want something a bit more portable, check out the best hoverboard instead.
Award: BEST ON A BUDGET
WHY WE LIKE IT: Budget-friendly model with a fair amount of high end features, including sensors that automatically power down when you step off, 72mm polyurethane wheels and a light form factor.

The Swagtron Swagskate NG3 Electric Skateboard comes in at a budget-friendly price point while still offering plenty of bells and whistles, including a suite of sensors that automatically power down the unit when not in use and four high quality polyurethane wheels that excel on a wide variety of surface types. We also liked the light form factor, under eight pounds, as this skateboard is easy to carry around when you are not riding it.
Though the motor is adequate, it does only ascend to around nine miles per hour, which is slower than our top pick, and can only travel between four and six miles on a single charge. Additionally, the recommended maximum weight is just 150 pounds, which is on the lighter side. This is a solid pick, but maybe not the best kids motorized electric scooter.
Award: BEST FOR BEGINNERS
WHY WE LIKE IT: Great product for kids or beginners, thanks to a safe hybrid scooter design, with an adjustable height handlebar, IPX4 water resistance, max speed of 7mph and a remote control that easily slots into the handle, for effortless control.
Read Full Review: Hover-1 Switch 2 in 1 Electric Skateboard
The Hover-1 Switch 2 in 1 Electric Skateboard is intended for kids and young adults and, as such, it is the best electric skateboard for beginners that we tried. This is an incredibly safe product, with a hybrid scooter design, a remote that slots into the handle bar for effortless control and extra large tire wheels, 5 inches around, for enhanced stability, in addition to a pair of LED headlights. We also liked that the whole thing is IPX4 water resistant and that the skateboard features an aesthetically pleasing design.
As this product is intended primarily for beginners, there are some limitations to be found. The maximum weight is just 132 pounds, which is the lowest on this list, and the 90 watt motor only reaches seven miles per hour with a maximum range of six miles on a single charge. If you’re trying to take this scooter on a long journey, you might to also bring along one of the best bikes, in case it dies.
Award: BEST ULTRA-THIN MODEL
WHY WE LIKE IT: Ultra-thin design, which allows it to bend and flex for tricks, with a 480 watt motor that can reach 15 mph and large wheels that can traverse a wide variety of common terrain types.
The Teamgee H8 Electric Skateboard is extremely thin, at just half of an inch, which allows it to bend and flex, allowing a degree of control over tricks and giving it a light form factor of just 11 pounds. We also liked the 480 watt motor, which easily ascends to 15 miles per hour and excels with inclines of up to 15 degrees or so. The remote control also allows for quick speed adjustments and the built-in battery will get around eight miles of use out of a single charge.
Though the motor is plenty powerful, the company does recommend a maximum load of 160 pounds, which is on the lower end. Additionally, it can be somewhat difficult to buy replacement parts if something breaks down the line, though the company does offer a one year warranty. If this is a bit too intense of an option for you, you may want to take a look at one of the best Segway’s instead.

Award: BEST BRAKING SYSTEM
WHY WE LIKE IT: Extremely light form factor, less than 8 lb, with an intuitive remote control, for effortless control, and a series of brakes that slow down automatically, tapering off in 4 stages, increasing safety.
The Hiboy S11 Electric Skateboard is an extremely light product, around 7.8 pounds, making it easy to carry around when not in use. We also liked the fantastic brakes, which automatically taper off in four stages for added safety and stability. The packed-in remote is also of a high quality, allowing for effortless wireless control.
Though the motor can ascend to over 12 miles per hour, which is great for something in this price range, it does only get around six miles of range on a single charge, which is on the lower end. On that note, the battery also takes a while to fully charge, around four hours. This product is geared towards someone who’s skated before, and might not be the best skateboard for beginners.
To help narrow down to the above list, we made sure to pick some options for beginners and some for seasoned skateboarding veterans, with a couple right in the middle for good measure. To that end, the motors on offer achieve a wide variety of maximum speeds, from seven miles per hour to 22 miles per hour.
As far as durability, we made sure that every item we picked featured some measure of water resistance, to protect the internal components, and ended up preferring skateboards made from bamboo, maplewood, fiberglass and other high quality materials.
We also liked products that could ascend hills, up to inclines of 15 degrees, though even the strongest electric skateboard could still struggle with ultra-steep hills. Additionally, we tested out all of the built-in batteries, ensuring they could last around six miles on a single charge, at the minimum.
We took a long look at the included remote controls, making sure they were easy and safe to use, with plenty of options for beginners and pros alike. Finally, we tested the battery life of each and every pick, ensuring they could last for at least 40 minutes on a full charge, with a maximum distance of at least six miles, and that they reached a full charge in a couple of hours.
