The air that we breath is just as important as the food that we eat. These things can affect our health in positive or negative ways. This good looking air purifier is also simple to use. It sounds like a winner, but read my buyers guide below to see how it performs in the real world. Is it a win for those with allergy and asthma? Austin Air HealthMate Standard HM-400
A top rated air purifiers.

The Austin Air HealthMate Standard HM-400 is sleek looking even though it’s a box on wheels, has great 4 stage carbon and zeolite filtration and great area coverage. It is a top-rated model, so I had to see for myself what all the fuss was about. I was not disappointed with my home air quality. In fact, I now love it.

Pros:

Filters last for a long time
Great coverage
4 stage filter

Cons:

Expensive
Gets louder on high speed
Needs a filter change alert

Austin Air HealthMate Standard HM-400 Build Quality And Design

The Healthmate HM400 is expensive and a little heavy at 45 pounds, but the construction is solid and feels very durable. As far as design, it may be a box on swiveling caster wheels, but it’s a good looking cube in a neutral color that won’t stand out like a sore thumb. The ladies will appreciate that.

Austin Air HealthMate Cleaning Power

This energy star HM400 air has decent coverage and claims to be able to handle areas as large as 1500 sq ft. While I did find it’s cleaning abilities very impressive, you may want to use it in spaces no larger than about 350 sq ft since it has a CADR rating of 220. I tested it in an area measuring roughly 700 square feet and it did an amazing job. Pet owners will love that kind of coverage for pet dander. Those who are chemically sensitive will also get a lot for their money here. Air purifiers remove these contaminants, dust mites and many more. That’s why your vacuum cleaner uses them.

Austin Air Healthmate HM400 Features

The 4 stage filter is the true gem within this HEPA air purifier. The air filtration stops large particles, then medium-sized contaminants, as air moves through the fifteen-pound, activated carbon filter, before removing the smallest contaminants with a HEPA filter. That is a very thorough filtration system.

That and a 3-speed control switch on the front is really all there is. This pet machine is a very feature-light air purifier outside of those fan speeds.

To replace the filter you just unscrew four holes that remove the bottom plate to access the filters. I like how easy it is to access and put the filter replacements in, but I do wish this model had a filter change indicator. Austin Air Healthmate replacement filters are easy to find. While this is not a medicalgrade true HEPA machine, that filter system makes it very close to one. A true medical grade HEPA unit would cost much more.

Austin Air HealthMate Cleaning Performance

This top air purifier is a bit expensive, but it is a very strong air purifier for the price. After using the Air Healthmate HM400, I can tell you that it is worth the investment. In terms of actual performance, this air cleaner gets the job done fast. After an hour the difference is noticeable in not only how fresh the air is, but in how it smells too. It is great at getting rid of odors and air pollutants if you are looking for a top air purifier for smoke.

Bottom Line

Expensive, but worth the price. The indoor air quality feels like you are using an industrial-grade machine with amazing air flow. I suffer from allergies and this air purifier gave me almost instant relief. It is also easy to use. The 4 stage filter system just gets things out of the air like a champ thanks to the true HEPA air filters. And the Austin Air Healthmate replacement filter seems to last for quite a while. So it would be handy if this air purifer had a filter change alert just so you know when you need a replacement filter. But that’s okay. I’m really happy with every aspect of this Austin air purifier. It’s fairly low volume as well, which makes it a good bedroom machine for clean air while you sleep. It is certainly a top air purifier for mold.

Sure, you could try the Healthmate Junior, Rabbit Air Minusa2, Alen Breathesmart, Perfect Aire or Stadler Form, but I would go with the Austin Air HM400 allergy machine for cleaner home air.
