When you’re searching for the best Chromebook for artists, you’ll definitely want something with a good display that’s highly portable. Enter, the ASUS Chromebook Flip C302CA! This 2-in-1 device has an all-metal body, corning Gorilla Glass, and a full HD touchscreen display, resulting in a premium product with a premium feel.

Why We Like It – ASUS C302CA Flip Chromebook

The ASUS C302CA Flip Chromebook is another 2-in-1 device that offers the features of a laptop with the portability of a tablet. With 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, & up to 10 hours of battery life, the ASUS Chromebook Flip offers a premium Chrome OS experience. For a comparable product, take a look at our Asus Chromebook Flip C302 Review.

Display Type

Graphics for the ASUS C302A are provided by an Intel Integrated HD Graphics 515 graphics card and displayed on a 12.5-inch display. This screen provides a 1080p full HD experience, which is better than the 768p displays commonly found on cheaper Chromebooks. It has 300 nits of brightness and offers wide viewing angles for its users, thanks to the use of an IPS panel. The 16:9 aspect ratio screen provides great color display and fast performance but may feel out of place when using Android apps (which are usually rendered better on a 3:2 display). If you prefer a chromebook with anti-glare touch screen and fast image processing, take a look at the Asus Chromebook C202Sa.

You’ll get a full HD experience when using this device. Although there aren’t any 4K display options available, the 1920 x 1080 pixel IPS panel offers much better visual performance than other Chromebooks that only offer an HD experience (1366 x 768p). The display itself is a 10-point touchscreen that works perfectly in tablet mode, and it also has support for a stylus as well. Sadly, it doesn’t appear to come with a stylus, but you should be able to pick one up fairly cheap online.

Battery Life

It’s certainly not going to break any records for overall battery life, but the Flip Chromebook has enough juice to last the average workday. Powered by a two-cell 39 Wh battery, the C302A will operate for up to 10 hours before it needs to be recharged. While initial performance is decent, the batteries seem prone to rapid deterioration. Some users report only ⅓ of the advertised battery life after as little as three months from the initial purchase (for a longer battery life, check out the Google Pixelbook Go i5 Chromebook).

Weight & Durability

Much lighter than the Lenovo Chromebook S330, the C302CA Flip only weighs in at 2.65 pounds. This is partially due to its all-metal construction, which results in a premium lightweight device that’s easily portable. Another premium feature is the corning Gorilla Glass, which will prevent your screen from cracking easily. With two hinges to flip the screen 360°, the device feels safe & secure in the stand and tent modes. The C302CA even has magnets that hold it together when in tablet mode!

Like many Chromebooks on the market today, the ASUS Flip has done away with the usual two USB 2.0 (or 3.0) ports that you might find on older devices in favor of USB type C ports. On this Chromebook, you will find two USB C ports and a microSD card. While these options aren’t very expansive, the USB C ports can be used for most of your daily needs, including charging the device or hooking it up to an external display. The C302CA only has 64GB of eMMC storage but you can easily expand that using the microSD card slot.

ASUS C302CA Flip Chromebook Wrap Up

Despite costing nearly $430 (for a cheaper option, consider the HP Chromebook 14), the ASUS C302CA Flip Chromebook offers an enjoyable experience for light gaming and basic web browsing. With an aluminum body & Gorilla Glass cornering, the Flip provides a premium experience that’s equal to its price point. We wish the internal storage was 128GB, but ultimately the Flip Chromebook is intended as a cloud-based device, so the 64GB of eMMC storage should be enough for most users.
