While looking for the best router, a few users tend to avoid Asus. While the reason for that is still pretty much present in the Asus AX88U Router, it actually comes with a lot of useful features too. The Asus RT AX88U router is a great competitor overall for the best small business router throne.
Asus routers pretty much usually come with over-the-top functionalities that nobody will ever take advantage of. But the Asus AX88U Router, unlike their gaming routers, comes with useful features like AiMesh support that a home network really needs.
If you have a stable internet connection, the Asus RT AX88U is going to perform very well. On this router, Asus provides four antennas. This is similar to its sister model the Asus BRT-AC828 which also has 4 antennae. And the range is even better than some of Asus’s own tri-band routers from their Rapture GT lineup. However, it’s not as good as the Amplifi HD WiFi system Ubiquiti Labs, or any mesh router at this price.
Asus routers usually use Trend Micro’s services for some of its functions. And the Asus RT AX88U also uses the same service for the “Mobile Game Boost” function. And the problem with that is, that this router sends user info to Trend Micro. If you care about your privacy, this might be a dealbreaker for you.
The web UI of this Asus Router is simple to understand, much like the Belkin N1 Vision wireless router. It’s very intuitive and easy to use for laymen. But that doesn’t mean it lacks advanced functionalities, quite the contrary, in fact. Asus routers usually have the most number of options rooted inside the web UI.
For a WiFi 6 router, the Asus RT AX88U router is priced fairly well. And after looking at our review above, you should have an idea of what you can expect from this router. It only comes with a single gigabit WAN port, which is slightly disappointing. But compared to other Asus routers, it’s good.
The Asus AX88U Router is a fantastic device that comes with eight Ethernet ports (LAN). It’s both a great switch and a great wireless router (WiFi) at the same time.
