AKG K702 Review

Both the AKG K702 and the AKG K701 feature very similar audio drivers and designs, and both are fully open-back over-the-ear headphones with almost the same audio profiles, and both models sound practically identical in virtually all use cases. However, the AKG K702 does come with a detachable cable that can easily be replaced, but the K701 has a fixed cable. The AKG K702 also sports a much better overall build quality when pitted against the AKG K701, which is excellent even for rough use both indoors and outdoors.

The AKG K702 delivers more low bass while listening to bass-heavy music compared to the Sennheiser HD 600. The AKG K702 also features a wider soundstage than the HD 600. However, the Sennheiser HD 600 does have a much more stable and nuanced sound profile with a balanced treble range thanks to its fully open ear cups, unlike the K702, but it also suffers from more audio leakage.

While both the AKG K702 and the Philips SHP9500 feature very similar neutral and balanced audio profiles, the AKG K702’s sound profile retains a lot more finer sound details without degradation or smoothening the audio. The SHP9500 is also a lot more comfortable compared to the AKG K702 for long listening sessions, thanks to its cloth earpads. However, the SHP9500 doesn’t provide as stable of a fit as the AKG K702.
