Product testers lauded the Acer Nitro XF243Y Pbmiiprx for gaming, thanks to its high 165 Hz overclockable display refresh rate. Product reviewers also appreciated its native AMD’s FreeSync Premium support along with NVIDIA’s GSync compatibility for VRR. However, they were highly disappointed by its poor black levels and low native contrast ratio.

Product Snapshot

Overview

The Acer Nitro XF243Y Pbmiiprx is an entry-level budget monitor released in 2020 that the brand touts to be one of the best computer monitors in its range currently available in the market. This display features a 23.8-inch FHD IPS panel with a 16:9 aspect ratio, and besides its 250 nits peak brightness, the brand claims that it handles reflections and glares well. Similar to the highest-rated gaming monitors, this model also features an overclockable refresh rate of 165 Hz, which is fantastic for playing fast-paced esports games and FPS titles as it delivers that extra responsiveness that is necessary for playing online games competitively. Unlike the HP V24i, this display natively supports AMD’s FreeSync Premium alongside NVIDIA’s GSync mode for VRR (Variable Refresh Rate). And this helps to smooth out frame tearing and stutters from games running on AMD and NVIDIA’s compatible graphics cards, just like the Acer Predator X27. The brand claims that the included stand features height adjustment, tilt, rotation, and swivel to fit in almost every setup. This model features built-in speakers to help buyers get their system ready to go quickly, similar to the Acer Nitro XF252Q Xbmiiprzx. And the brand also advertised this model’s input lag and response times to be below 5 ms in all display modes, which is excellent for gaming.

Consensus

our Verdict

Vetted experts love the Acer Nitro XF243Y Pbmiiprx monitor for gaming, thanks to numerous high-end gaming features. Critics from Rtings.com adore its 165 Hz max refresh rate for gaming, as it delivered fluid gameplay from their powerful gaming PCs. They also marveled at its reflection handling, just like the top HP monitors. They were also highly impressed by its excellent color accuracy right out of the box.
However, reviewers from MonitorNerds weren’t very happy with its performance inside dark rooms, as they simply did not deem the contrast ratio to be high enough to deliver good black levels. They were especially let down by the lack of HDMI 2.1 ports, as they are essential for VRR to work in next-gen gaming consoles. And unlike the Acer Nitro XV252Q Fbmiiprx gaming monitor, it only features a 6-Bit + FRC panel, which is simply inadequate for true HDR.

Reason to Buy

  • Exceptionally high 165 Hz max refresh rate
  • Superb color reproduction out of the box
  • FreeSync Premium and GSync compatible
  • Fantastic reflection and glare handling
  • Extensive viewing angles

Reason to Avoid

  • Poor native contrast ratio
  • Sub-par black levels
  • Lack of HDMI 2.1 ports
  • Absence of local dimming
  • Lacks a true 10-Bit panel for HDR
