For the best monitor for watching movies or one of the best computer monitors, the Acer Predator Monitor does pretty well, though it’s better suited for gaming. Take a look at its high refresh rate and response time, and you’ll see why. However, it also has HDR400 and a 4K resolution, two traits amazing for gaming and cinema. Check out our product roundups for more of the top-rated 27-inch monitors like this Acer Predator.

Why We Like It – Acer Predator Monitor

Decked out with gaming goodies, the Acer Predator Monitor hits all the right strides within an affordable budget—a one-way ticket to 4K gaming bliss, fast refresh rate, and good response time.

  • 4K resolution
  • IPS panel; great viewing angles
  • 144Hz refresh rate
  • Better suited for gaming
  • Lacks fully fledged HDR

Every feature the Acer Predator Monitor has screams “gaming monitor.” Input lag is practically non-existent. Only software will pick up any minute details. With 144Hz and 4ms input lag, you can forget about motion blur. Throwing in NVIDIA G Sync technology and you can say goodbye to screen tearing and stuttering. In other words: a blissful gaming experience. On top of that, it’s HDR400—not true HDR, but still leagues better than a Dell Computer Ultrasharp U2415 or Acer Predator XB271HU.

Viewing Angle

Since an IPS panel was used, as opposed to a TN panel, viewing angles are exceptional. It offers 178-degrees of leeway. You won’t see a huge drop in image quality until you’re level with the monitor’s plane.

While the BenQ EL2870U is several steps above in durability compared to the Acer Predator Monitor, it’s still no slouch. Sure, it’s mostly hard plastic, but the stand does a solid job keeping the monitor from shaking back and forth. It’s the same noticeable trait the Dell Ultrasharp U2415 has.

Ports & Expandability

You aren’t getting much in terms of ports, just your main ones: 1.4b DisplayPort, and a single HDMI 2.0, plus an audio jack and two USB 3.0 downstream ports. You can just barely daisy chain.

The Acer Predator Monitor has all the makings to be a great budget 4K gaming monitor. But does it have the chops for movies and shows? Given its HDR400 and 4K resolution—yes, I like to think so. It’s certainly more suited than run-of-the-mill 1080p monitors. Justifiable purchase? Only if you plan on using it as your primary gaming monitor.

Acer Predator Monitor Wrap Up

Everything the Acer Predator Monitor has, inside and out, is what you’d want from a gaming monitor: 144Hz refresh rate, 4ms response time. That’s not to say you can’t enjoy your favorite streaming service—far from it. After all, 4K resolution and HDR are fantastic for improving your viewing experience, not just gaming.
