2014 Porsche 911 Targa Debuts in Motor City

The Detroit Auto Show is happening this week with lots of car brands releasing new models and concepts. Porsche decided to get old school with their 2014 911 Targa, a throwback homage to the first model that was released back in 1965. It was first created out of necessity, with rumors that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration would outlaw convertibles, so they thought a half-open car was the way to keep open-top vehicles alive. The latest iteration of the Targa fuses new-school styling cues with old-school tech.

The entry-level Targa boasts a 350-hp, 3.4-liter flat-six engine just behind the rear axle that’s good for a 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds before topping out at 175 mph. The 4S model has a 3.8 liter engine good for 400 hp and runs from 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds with a top “track speed”  of 183 mph. Both versions will feature all-wheel drive since Porsche is pushing it as the bed 911 for all climates. The Targa 4 starts at $101,600 and the Targa 4S asks $116,200, with both hitting dealerships later this summer.
