Touch Book: An 8.9-inch Netbook With Detacheable Touch Screen

Holy crap, I totally want one of these!  The Touch Book, from Always Innovating isn’t your usual netbook. First off, it uses an ARM processor, which is more commonly found in mobile devices, as opposed to the Atom processor we often see in most netbooks.  This makes the device much more energy efficient and given that it has two batteries – one in the monitor and one in the keyboard – it explains the 10-15 hour battery life.  In case you haven’t figured it out based on the pics, the screen is completely detachable (and magnetic so you can stick it to a fridge) from the keyboard and the OS apparently accommodates this with 2 different modes.  Speaking of OS, you can pretty much install what you want, which includes Google Android, Ubuntu, Angstrom, and Windows CE (they don’t recommend the last one).  Lastly, the computer cum MID includes Mozilla’s upcoming mobile browser, code-named Fennec, which is built for touchscreen devices.

The Touch Book will be available later this Spring, but you can preorder one now for $399 with a keyboard or $299 without a keyboard.

It’s a shame you can’t run Mac’s OS, Leopard, on this… I’m sure it would double whatever sales it has!
