Today, Casio trotted out what they’re calling the thinnest ruggedized digital camera, the EX-G1. And at .78-inches I might have to agree, although I didn’t really do any comparison, but it does sound thin for being shock-resistant, freezeproof, dustproof and waterproof. And as you’ve probably noticed the styling bites off of their G-Shock line of phones.

Spec wise were talking a 12.1 megapixel sensor, 848×480 movide mode, microSD card slot, 3x optical zoom, 2.5-inch LCD and Advanced Dynamic Photo function. There’s a bit more details on just how rugged the EX-G1 is after the ‘leap’.
You can expect the EX-G1 to arrive sometime December for $299.99 – it will also come in black. …Continue reading: Casio’s EX-G1 Camera Is Most Rugged And Most Thin

Late last week ioSafe announced a larger version of their waterproof/fireproof hard drive, the 2TB version. Previous versions were available in 500GB, 1TB and 1.5TB capacities. Cost for the super tough hard drive is $399 and it’s said to be available at all major online retailers, including Newegg and Amazon.
ioSafe’s external hard drives can survive 30 minutes in up to 1550 degrees fahrenheit or 10 feet of fresh water for 3 days. In event that either disaster occurs you’ll need a SATA dock to retrieve the drive’s content or you can use their hard drive recovery system which is included in the price.
And speaking of ioSafe, were giving away one of their disaster proof hard drives. I’m not sure on its capacity but in order to win just drop a comment below and well select a winner at random. If you become a fan of their Facebook page we’ll consider it a second entry, which will increase your odds of winning!

Capable of mounting directly to your handlebars or fastening to your belt loop this waterproof speaker case by Sanwa may be a nice choice for those of you who like to ride your bike in the rain. If you happen to live and ride in Portland Oregon, it could be essential.
I prefer riding with earphones, but for those who want to be able to hear the 18-Wheeler coming from behind them, this is a great alternative. Your MP3 player fits inside the case and the volume controls are on the outside. I used to have a SkullCandy backpack that had speakers mounted in the shoulder straps that sounded pretty good, but I question how good this thing sounds.
I mean part of the fun of listening to music was so you didn’t have to hear street noise as you rode, right? It could be cool off the bike in places like the beach or pool, though. On sale now for $44.

Like the Jitterbug phone for old people, Sony has plans to release a set of remotes that features over sized buttons and are resistant to liquid spills. They’ve done a nice job to dress up the ‘you’re too senile to use a real remote’, by offering them in a variety of finishes and colored button patterns. For now, they’ll only be available in Japan for about $29.

H2Audio has been making some heavy duty underwater iPod cases for some years now and the iDive300 is their first foray into deeper waters. Designed to hit depths of up to 300 feet deep, the iDive300 is priced at $350 and is an extremely niche product that only seriously bored divers would need. Sporting watertight controls and over the ear speakers I can’t imagine a large production batch for this item. Beyond that, the iDive300 has a warranty for your iStuff in case something goes awry once submerged. What do we think? Cool or worthless?

Today, Garmin announced their Dakota line of GPSes, which from the looks of it are just a water downed version of their 550. It sports a smaller but reasonably sized 2.6-inch touchscreen, which probably explains the slightly better battery life of 20 hours. And much like the 550 it’s waterproof and comes with 850mb of storage ‘which can store up to 1,000 waypoints, 50 routes, 2,000 geocaches and an active tracklog of up to 10,000 points and 200 saved tracks.” No camera on this one, though.
When it arrives in the 3rd quarter it will be available in two flavors: a 10 and a 20. The 20, the higher end of the two, adds a microSD card slot, a 3-axis compass, barometric altimeter and wireless unit-to-unit connectivity for sharing your waypoints, tracks, routes and geocaches. Pricing will run $299.99 and $349.99 respectively.

Who are these master merchants at ChinaVision? They just seem to have their finger on the pulse of everything that is moderately cool and cheap. Today’s product is a waterproof bluetooth floating speaker orb thing reminiscent of the Star Wars training ball. With a range of up to 30 feet, all you need is an MP3 player with bluetooth functionality and you are good to go. Looks like the speaker has volume, power, play and pause controls but no such fast forward or rewind buttons. That’s ok as long as your playlist is decently long. Running on AA batteries, no word on how long they last. On sale now for $40.
