You’ve gotta hand it to Joby.  They’ve built an entire company on just one product.  Essentially they’ve issued small updates or iterations of their popular backpack sized tripod.  Past products have included a flash light, a version for the bike, a version for DSLRs and others.

So it comes as no surprise to us when they announced the Gorillapod Video.  Much like their previous tripods this one includes their patented bendable legs and magnetic feet.  But what makes this one different from the rest is that it’s designed specifically for pocket cameras.  Included is an omni-directional positioning video head that allows seamless 360 degree pan and 135 degree tilt. It’s made of anodized aluminum, includes a quick release plate that lets you go tripod to handy cam in second and can support up to 11.5oz.

The Hatcam isn’t exactly what we’d deem as genius, but for those of you looking for some first person perspective on the cheap for all your wicked and wild stunts than this is probably the best answer.  Don’t blame us, though, if you crash and burn because you can’t see due to a heavy camcorder weighing down the brim and covering your eyes.  You’ll also want to insure a tight fit and then of course you need to take into account this negates any protective head gear.   In fact, we’re gonna suggest that you pass on this $30 item all together and invest some money in a few screws, a drill and some weekend man hours. Then again if you do the recommended activities found on their site, such as fishing or pushing a baby in a swing then you’re probably all good.

Name aside, the Digidudes will surely prove helpful.  Sure, they’re a bit on the gimmicky side, but how many times have you been out and about and realized you need a portable tripod to achieve that perfect shot.  The almost keyring sized device hides a mini collapsible tripod.  Just unscrew the head, expand and mount your camera.  They’re available in a variety of styles and start at $29.

Where there is laziness there is a product, or in our case a gadget.  The Acadalus is a self-leveling tripod mount.  Meaning you can forget about the bubble level and futzing with those tripod knobs.  Using a built-in inclinometer and a set of motors it automatically adjusts the camera’s position to a 100% level shot.  Course, if you’re not feeling the ‘even stevens’ than you can hit a few buttons to adjust the angle. 

As cool as it sounds, though, nothing is gonna justify the price tag of $5,000 and that doesn’t even include the battery pack.

In attempt to garner some press – it’s clearly working – Joby, the folks that make those bendy tripods, replaced part of a bicycle’s frame with their metal ball-and-socket tripod legs.  As you can see, they also replaced the handle bars, which it ain’t a half bad idea, that is assuming you could come up with a version that could lock into place.

You might have a hard time buying just how impromptu and on the fly their product video is (after all it’s a product video), but Zacuto’s Zgrip iPhone Jr might be the answer that iPhone 3GS cinematographers are looking for.  In short order it’s a hand grip with a mount that makes it a bit easier to shoot steady video than just holding the iPhone directly.  The Jr. version will cost you $69, but if you buy it before August 15th they’ll give you $10 off.  If you’re looking for a bit more professionalism and options then check out their Pro version.  It’s just too bad neither of them have a self balancing arm alla steadycam.

Don’t confuse Joby’s newest tripod, the Gorillamobile with the International calling service.  Although, both products do have a lot to do with phones.  Much like all of Joby’s previous tripods it uses the same ball-and-socket legs that can be wrapped around just about any surface (or pole) allowing you to easily mount your favorite mobile devices.

Attaching said mobile device to the GorillaMobile seems to come by way of either ‘a custom-engineered suction cup mounting system’ or ‘two removable high-bond adhesive clips’.  Both don’t seem very forgiving and I can only image what would happen to my iPhone if the suction cups suddenly lost its suck, or what the adhesive strips would do to phone’s shiny black finish.  Fortunately, they’ve tossed in the traditional universal camera adapter, but that only covers the point and shoot crowd.

The GorillaMobile, which weighs just 2oz and measures 6-inches tall, will ship later this summer and cost $34.95.
