LED + Surfboard? That’s a formula that is guaranteed to result in 1000s of video views. 117k views in the last week truth be told.

Argentine professional surfer Aritz Aranburu hit the waters and tore up the waves with this LED surfboard built by Puka Surf Co. We tried to find some deets on the glowing water vessel (found another video on YouTube amongst many), but their site seems to be pretty devoid of details, let alone actual pages (we got a 404). Nonetheless, the video is pretty damn cool so check it when the boss ain’t floating around your cubicle.

Helmet mountable camcorders are a God send to those who ride skateboards, BMX bikes or perform just about any extreme sport. It provides bystanders the same thrilling experience as the riders, minus the Gs, adrenaline and gut turning fun.

While there a number of options to choose from, the Drift HD looks to be a solid choice. This new version is 25% smaller than it predecessor, meaning it won’t weigh your noggin down and will feel more trim when performing the most absurd of stunts. It captures full HD video and sports a lens that rotates 300 degrees with a 170 degree field of view. The lenses are replaceable and it can also capture 9 megapixel photos. Usually for camcorders of this size the feature set is pretty limited, generally to the aforementioned ones. However, the Drift HD includes a remote control and an LCD screen for adjusting settings.

The Drift HD launches August 31st for $369.

FishEyes Rod & Reel with Underwater Video Camera lets you see what’s happening underneath the water’s surface as you fish. While it probably won’t make catching the fish all that much easier, you’ll be able to see if there is any prey within the vicinity to justify your continued exploration, what kind of fish there are and if your bait is still intact.

A small, waterproof camera, complete with LED light transmits the video back to the reel’s color LCD screen via a 25 foot cord. Checkout the gimmicky video below for a live viewing of it in action. You can purchase the FishEyes Rod & Reel with Underwater Video Camera for $80.

The Power Snorkel is a $2500 breathing apparatus that floats on the water’s surface and let’s divers breathe under water for up to 70 minutes without the need for heavy SCUBA gear or extensive training. It works by channeling air through a tube to the diver’s mouth. A battery powers the flow of compressed air and is about the size of a blow up dingy. Because the Power Snorkel floats on the water’s surface, it follows the divers as they swim beneath, providing not only oxygen but an indicator of their location.

According to the manufacturer training is minimal and is perfect for resorts, meaning that divers can dive within minutes of being introduced to the product. One diver can achieve a depth of up to 12 meters (40 feet), while two divers just 6 meters.

Sometimes the motion of the ocean just isn’t enough to get you going. And now you can get your head out of the gutter, because we’re actually talking about a jet powered surfboard called the WaveJet.

It’s a patented Personal Water Propulsion engine, and while it appears to be a powered surfboard, it can be attached to a variety of crafts, such as a SUPs, kayaks, kiteboards, rescue boards and light boats.

The kit is powered by an integrated twin-lithium ion battery pack and can produce 20lbs of thrust (2-3 times faster than paddling) for up to 30 minutes. The makers say it’s quiet, safe and light weight. To recharge the WaveJet you just plug it into a standard wall socket.

How much? About $4,500.

Golf carts are so your father’s mode of transportation on the lynx. Enter the Segway x2 Golf. It’s replete with turf friendly tires, a golf bag carrier attachment that allows for easy dismount and club access, and an integrated scorecard holder with slots for scorecard, golf balls, and tees. A single charge should allow you to play up to 36 holes, or travel up to 14 miles. Top speed, like all Segways, maxes out at 12.5mph.

Sure, it’s $7,999, but unlike a golf cart, this thing can be ridden on the streets or into the pro shop.

Compression gear is designed to prevent muscle vibration and increase endurance. While the benefits of such clothing are debatable, 110% Play Harder compression gear is taking it to new levels.

Instead of just protecting athletes during play, their line of shorts and shirts help with recovery after a long and strenous workout. Small slits located in the gear allow pre-chilled ice sheets to be directly inserted into strategically located areas of the body. Iceing a problem area reduces swelling which in turn accelerates healing time. Sure, you could just apply some ice, but this puts it in a neat, all-in-one package. Alternatively, the packs can be heated up for a warming sensation and will stay frozen on their own for up to 2 hours.

110% Play Harder offers the ice sheets as well as an insulated tote bag that keeps them frozen for up to 6 hours.

Garmin unveiled their next flagship GPS fitness watch today, the Forerunner 610. Like their previous fitness watches, the 610 includes auto lap, pace, heart rate, distance and time. Runners can modify the screen to show up to 4 of these stats at any given time, or cycle through info by tapping the touchscreen. Garmin has built the Forerunner 610 to withstand inclement weather, as well as sweat, all the while still allowing users to access the touchscreen with gloves on.

Like past Garmin Forerunner devices, fitness fanatics can upload their workouts to Garmin’s Connect website and download other users’ routes and stats for a virtual trainer or partner in crime. In addition to audible alerts, the Forerunner 610 includes a vibration feature that notifies runners of intervals and other note worthy information – ideal for those that run with headphones in their ears or jog in areas with a hefty amount of street noise.

The Training Effect feature, new to the Forerunner line, “measures the impact of exercise on aerobic fitness and lets you know how the workout improves your fitness during the workout”. They’ve also added a run/walk training feature, which allows the auto lap feature to remain intact for joggers that run for a distance, walk and then continue to run – a growing trend.

The Forerunner 610 appears to be available direct from Garmin for $349.99.

“Running with Forerunner 610 is like having a coach with you every step of the way,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “From giving the basics such as pace, distance and time to monitoring your effort through heart rate, creating interval workouts and racing a friend on the other side of the world, Forerunner 610 becomes a necessary partner for all serious runners.”

Now it is easier than ever to see how far, how fast and how hard you have worked. Forerunner 610 puts it all at your fingertips. Designed for the runner who is constantly seeking improvement, Forerunner 610 is Garmin’s new flagship model. Forerunner 610′s sleek stylish design complements the highly responsive touch screen and high resolution display. This innovative design has drawn praise from the International design community by winning the coveted Red Dot Design Award, the world’s largest and most renowned design competition in a field of thousands of submissions from over 60 countries. To see the Forerunner 610 in action, go to www.garmin.com/touch.
Forerunner 610 uses a vibration motor for alerts such as heart rate, pace and distance when audible tones cannot be heard (heart monitor included in some bundles or available separately). With the heart rate monitor, Forerunner 610 also allows runners to track their training intensity via the new Training Effect feature. With the right information, it is not necessary to be a coach or sports scientist to help you train effectively. Training Effect measures the impact of exercise on aerobic fitness and lets you know how the workout improves your fitness during the workout.

In a true race against the clock, Forerunner 610 introduces Virtual Racer™. With this new feature, Garmin has an answer for every excuse – no more, “I could have beaten that time” – where runners can race themselves over their previous bests or against other users’. These can be taken from runs stored on the watch or downloaded wirelessly from the huge and expanding Garmin Connect™ running community (http://connect.garmin.com). Here users can quickly and easily log their workouts, track their totals, set goals, share workouts with friends and family and participate in an online fitness community of more than 50 million activities around the world. Garmin Connect displays metrics such as time, distance, pace, elevation and heart rate. This information is shown through charts, illustrations, reports and a variety of map representations including street, photo, topographic, and elevation maps.

With the growing popularity of the run/walk training method in the distance running community (example: a runner runs for five minutes, walks for one minute and repeats for the duration of the course), Garmin has included a new run/walk alert. This alert allows Forerunner 610′s other features, such as, Auto Lap and Auto Pause, to remain active during a run/walk session.

Forerunner 610 is the latest breakthrough from Garmin, which has spent more than 20 years developing technologies and innovations to enhance users’ lives, making Garmin a household name in the automotive, aviation, marine, wireless, outdoor and fitness industries. For more about features, pricing and availability, as well as information about Garmin’s other products and services, go to www.garmin.com, www.garmin.blogs.com and http://twitter.com/garmin.

3.5 out of 5 stars

Pros:

Solid build & very comfortable

Heart Rate Monitor is exceptional

Depth of analysis is staggering

Cons:

Overly difficult interface

Buttons press to easily

Can get pricey

If you’re the type of training athlete that obsesses over statistics and the finest of details, than the Suunto t3d is for you. Capable of compiling all of your training minutia and interacting with several Suunto peripherals, the t3d is quite the comprehensive beast. While the t3d might be best suited for cardio related activities, I found it to be a bit troublesome when wearing gloves or engaging in any sort of wrist movement because the buttons were easily pressed when I didn’t want them to.

Build, Feel, & Aesthetic:

The watch is relatively lightweight and comforts the contours of my girl wrist with ease. I wore the t3d across a variety sporting activities and never felt like its presence was a nuisance. Beyond the overly sensitive buttons, the face of the watch was ultra resilient when it came to smashing into things and I never felt like I had to “watch” out for it. As far as looks goes, the t3d gives the impression of a high end sports watch without the need for any undue flair or peacocking. The band is comprised of your familiar sports resin, and the clasp works really well with fastening the strap and removing the watch with a quickness. To be noted, battery removal is also very simple thanks for the hatch like mini manhole cover that easily unscrews with the help of a nickel.

Modes & Use:

While the t3d has a bevy of modes to help you reach your training targets, by far the most impressive aspect was the real time heart monitoring. The t3d syncs directly to the accompanied HRM belt and the results are swift and quite pleasing. The band fits directly around your solarplexis and can be adjusted to fit your measurements accordingly. I tested the real time accuracy during football sessions on the beach and playing basketball at the park. The response time was great and it really helped let me know how hard I was working.

Unless your are a real athlete that demands a absurd amount of training data, you may find the t3 to be a bit daunting. The average person that exercises regularly won’t even need all that the t3 offers. Add on the companion website MovesCount and you’ll be blown away by how much detail is involved in nearly every aspect of a real athlete’s training regimen (see pic).

My biggest gripe with the t3 is the navigation interface. It’s just not all that intuitive and somewhat cumbersome. You really have to learn it to make it work for you. I’ve tried learning it and I still got confused and couldn’t get to where I needed to go when I needed to get there. Some people may be OK with the trial and error like schematic but I just got annoyed.

Conclusion:

While this watch may be a tad over indulgent for the average exerciser, the t3d is the most comprehensive training watch I have ever seen. If you’re looking for a watch to really dive into, I’d easily suggest the t3d. If you are looking for a more clearly defined sports watch without the maze of menus I’d look elsewhere. The MovesCount companion website is quite detailed and implements the whole community and social media aspect to your training, which really adds to the completeness of the package and should certainly not be overlooked. Depending on how many peripherals you want to add into the mix, the price could get up there. The MoveStick wireless data transfer stick is alone around $70! Add in the price of the t3d and you’re looking at around $200. But what’s really the price of physical perfection?

Buy the Suunto t3d here for $114!

Once you step foot on the green you switch the S1 into golf mode and it will display all the near by golf courses to choose from. One the appropriate course is selected it will provide three distances to each hole – front, middle and back of the green – with those details being updated automatically and adjusted depending on the angle of approach. During play the Approach S1 will automatically transition from hole to hole and keep tabs on your shot-to-shot distance in addition to tallying total distance walked.

The Approach S1 has an ultra-thin backlit display, and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that lasts up to eight hours in GPS mode and up to three weeks in watch mode. Too bad it doesn’t incorporate their ANT+ wireless tech and the ability to upload your game to their Garmin Connect service.

Garmin says that it is available now for $249.99.

Horseback Riding riding can be an exhilarating activity, and horses are majestic creatures, but never forget you’re dealing with a huge animal that could easily kill you if it feels like. Now, two companies are trying to increase the safety factor for the equestrian Eventing sport a little bit with inflatable air vests. You pull a short cord when you know you’re about to fall off, and a gas canister inflates the vest in less than a second. They’re available now for between $400-700, which is a small price to pay to keep your life.

ESPN and Microsoft announced today that the sports network is bringing over 3,500 sports games to Xbox Live through their ESPN3 service, most of which will be live and in high definition. There will also be replays, special events, and other special content. You’ll need Xbox Live Gold, but that seems a small, small price to pay for the content and everything else Gold offers. This is a big draw for Microsoft’s console — I don’t know what else they need to do to keep males age 18-35 in front of their game box.

Perhaps one of the more useful Wii Accessories to come out as of late is this new Wii Rowing Machine. Capable of working with Wii Sports And Wii Fit, there is no actual resistance besides your arms. Keeping your feet in a secure position, your movements will directly correlate with what’s happening on the screen. With no weights letting you ramp up your strength, this is really only going to be useful for older people. In the video you can see how it works and that it’s really just another piece of exercise equipment to keep around your living room.

Amazon has a pre-order up now for only $35. I’m not as excited as the “reps” in the video.

Something Ted Knight would have looked hilarious on, the Manty’s Caddy Scooter will be a pimp way to get around the golf course. Pretty much taking the caddy out of the equation, the Manty’s Scooter runs off 2x 24V Li-ion 20Ah batteries, has hydraulic disc brakes, and maxes out at around 42 miles per hour.

No word on pricing or availability but you’re welcome to contact the website in the read link below for more information. Soon to be seen in CaddyShack 2012!

Another week, another example of electronics on clothes. This time it’s a shirt designed to make sure baseball pitchers don’t become fatigued, thanks to meticulous data analysis on whomever’s wearing it.

Created by three engineering students at Northwestern University, the system involves an array of sensors and conductive thread on a standard Under Armor shirt. The shirt is connected to a PC that senses every time a pitch is thrown, so a coach may have a better idea when a player should be taken out of the game. The system could have plenty of other uses, though, for reducing back pain with athletes of all types. We’ll just have to wait and see.

What a great idea! The Rawlings’ Recordable Autograph Ball is literally the next generation of collectible sports memorabilia. Letting a youngster record up to 12 seconds of their favorite players voice for immediate and timeless playback, they can also put a picture of the player on the ball after the fact.

And you know what is an awesome idea? If it had a small digital camera and LCD screen to show that you were really there. Either way, the $25 asking price should be chump change to Grandpa when he sees the magical smile on his Grandson’s face. Now enter Priest and Altar Boy into the appropriate places of that last sentence.

Garmin kicked out a new, simpler GPS watch today called the Forerunner 110. It does away with all the frills and features found in Garmin’s previous GPS watches and simply measures your time, distance, and speed. For those of the more competitive ilk, you can view pace in two ways: averaged out either over the current lap/mile (if auto-lap is enabled) or over the duration of the run. Strap on one of Garmin’s heart rate monitors and you can also suss out calories burned, max heart rate and more.

The watch itself is water resistant so it should survive in the most sweaty of marathons or the occasional rain fall. Inside is a SiRFstarIV GPS receiver which should offer a quick satellite fix regardless of over head coverage. Battery life for the watch is rate for 8 hours of continuous use or 3 weeks in standby mode.

Much like Garmin’s other GPS watches you can sync your runs with Garmin Connect using the included USB cord as well as charge the time piece. In case you can’t upload your data on a daily basis the Forerunner 110 has enough storage to track up to 200 hours of saved history.

Expect the Garmin Forerunner 110 to arrive Q2 for $250. It will be available in three stylish color combinations: black/gray, charcoal/red and gray/pink.
