We knew it was coming – more like we’ve been waiting – and finally the Shuttle X50 Nettop computer has arrived on both US and EU shores. The 15.6-inch touchscreen computer will retail for $599 an include a 1.6GHz Intel Atom 330 processor, 1.3mp webcam, 4-in-1 media card reader, Windows XP, WiFi b/g/n, 5.1 channel audio, 160GB hard drive and 1GB of DDR2 RAM. A quick search of Newegg and Amazon reveals no results, but I’d expect it to appear any minute or day now.

If you’re an IT maven you’ll probably be pleased with Shuttle’s latest release, the X2700. It’s loaded with a 1.67Ghz Intel Atom 230 processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 120GB hard drive, WiFi b/g, gigabit Ethernet, DVD burner, a whole mess of ports, and a GMA950 video card. Alternatively, you could just buy the box and fill it with all the goodies your heart desires.
The Linux based computer is available here for about $380. I prefer Shuttle’s D10 desktop with a built-in 10-inch touchscreen LCD.

This isn’t the first time, and no doubt the last time we’ll see a desktop computer with a built-in LCD. Sure, the built-in monitor’s application is pretty limited, but it might give you that warm and fuzzy 80s feeling from the days of huge ass portable TVs, remember those? I think you got a 4 inch B&W screen in a tower sized box. The Shuttle D10’s screen achieves a 800×480 resolution and you can choose between a Core 2 Duo E4000 series, E2000 series, or Celeron 400 series processor. Other features are 2GB of RAM, 4 USB ports and probably a DVD burner ala tray format. The price is rumored to be around $500 and no word on whether it will come stateside.
