Samsung, which in recent has enjoyed great success with their line of TVs and mobile phones, still isn’t a brand you think of when it comes to portable audio.  But they’re working on it, and their latest PMP, leaked courtesy of a retailer, isn’t looking too shabby.  The YP-R1 sports a 2.7-inch 400×240 touchscreen, 8GB of storage, 3.5mm headphone jack with Bluetooth A2DP support, FM radio, video out and a fair amount of audio (AAC, FLAC, OGG, MP3 and WMA) and video (Xvid, DivX, H.264, MPEG-4, WMV and Real Media Video) codec support.  If the product page is correct, you can expect Samsung’s YP-R1 PMP to launch July 30th and cost about $180.

Before you start tossing rotten fruit at me and calling this info unsubstantiated I’m gonna admit just that.  Now that I’ve got that out of the way, you should know that Microsoft is going to release a Zune HD, there is no doubt about that, hence the leaked artwork now and from this past weekend. Now the rumorville says the iPod Touch competitor will feature a an NVidia chipset, which will enable the PMP to play Xbox games.  Say what?  Well, we know Microsoft already has the licensing in order, so it seems like a smart move especially since Apple has started to position the Touch in this manner.  Capacity of the Zune HD will range between 16GB and 32GB, and to put the Zune HD one step ahead of the competition we might see an AMOLED touchscreen, which is also rumored to appear in the next iteration of the iPod Touch and iPhone.

Note, the above picture could be a complete render, no one really knows, but it seems likely.

I don’t know much about Telecast, but the company looks like they’re set to introduce the M66, a 5-inch screened PMP with a 720p output.  The UI forgoes any touchscreen wizardy and instead opts for a 7 dedicated hard keys that could either simplify or convolute its usability.  Currently, the M66 is compatible with the h.264 MKV, RM/RMVB and AVI codecs and appears to be very slender given the screen size.  I doubt we’ll ever see a US release.

We only recently got word that the Mintpad might possibly be making its way to US shores.  Now the device has been spotted in an all black finish with DMB, a feature that enables the device to receive radio and TV in foreign locals, such as Korea.  Unfortunately, there is still no word on when the Mintpad will hit the US, but Koreans will drop an extra 39,000 KRW for the new color and added feature.

Looks like Lenovo, the long time computer maker, has plans to introduce a touchscreen PMP into the market.  Although we don’t know price or exact release date the specs are as follows: 4.3-inch touchscreen with a 480×272 resolution, microSD slot, FM tuner and codec compatibility with RMVB, AVI, ASF, MP4 and FLV for video and MP3, WMA, OGG, APE, FLAC and WAV for audio. What, no phone?

Funny, because as soon as you remove a page from your website after a rumor is associated with it, it only does one thing: verify the rumor.  And that’s exactly what Amazon has done with the Archos 2, a budget centric MP3 player that is neither a beauty or a beast.  But at $60 and 8GB of storage how can they go wrong?  Other known specs include a 1.8-inch screen, photo and video playback, voice recording, microSD card slot and a black or white finish.  No word on a street date, but if Amazon has the product page in their system it’s safe to say any day now.
