Many of you gamers around for the advent of the Gameboy will remember clearly just how cool this thing was. I actually never had one. I did have the Atari Lynx which was awesome for back then too.

Also recently inducted was the ball.

Remember just a year ago, when Wiis were almost impossible to find in stores and you could make a pretty fair chunk of cash by selling one of these hot little properties on eBay? Well, a year makes a pretty huge difference, and now, there’s a Wii in most every home that wants one. Of course, this has posed a whole new problem for Nintendo.

The company that could do no wrong just this time last year, is now facing–get this–a forty percent drop in quarterly revenues, and no immediate indication that things will get better.

Admittedly, there were only so many units they could ever sell, period–who really needs TWO Wiis?–but Nintendo exec Satoru Iwata thinks he’s got the answer: it’s all about the games. People are starting to realize that there aren’t a whole lot of good, high-demand games for their system. After all, you can only play so many Wario Ware titles before you start to lose the point.

But I’m with him on that one–the Wii needs more games. And not just big mini-game collections, either, but actual GAMES. They’ve got a great platform, if only they’d do something with it.

I’m interested because it’s a new business model in which the user doesn’t bear the communications cost.

Currently Nintendo DSi users can access the Nintendo store to download a variety of content via WiFi, but that requires that the user be within proximity of a signal and seriously hinders the purchase anytime, anywhere impulse. Of course, this kind of delivery system would be implemented in the next generation of Nintendo DSes and would add some significant cost to the handheld device, something Nintendo may not be willing to do.

The DSi LL will hit Japan on 11/21, no word on the US and the EU can expect it in the first quarter of 2010.

Sitting some where between Halloween and holiday present is the Darth Vader Nintendo Wii Sensor Bar Holder. If you’re not a Wii owner like me then it will probably take you a second or two to figure out what the hell this thing is.

The Nintendo Wii requires a sensor to be placed on the top of the TV in order for the controllers to work properly. If you own a Wii than you know how unappealing they can look. The Darth Vader Nintendo Wii Sensor Bar Holder simply holds the sensor but makes it appear as though its Vader’s Lightsaber. Yup, this might be the perfect gift for the Star Wars/Wii fan in your life.

Expect it to ship this November for $49.99.

Not that 20% off is that big of a deal, it’s only going to help Nintendo move more units this fall. The console is going to be packaged with the regular goods that include Wii Sports and one remote/nunchuk.

Is this a good deal or is it a who cares?

How do you prevent your hard drive from being stolen? Simple, you stuff it inside an original Nintendo Gameboy. At first glance, it looks like a full working Gameboy with a massive amount of storage. Sadly, it’s devoid of any game operation and that screen shot you see is in fact a piece of paper with a graphic printed on it. It’s maker then stuffed a 2.5-inch 80GB SATA drive into the portable gaming system’s back along with the hard drive’s LED status light and USB ports.

Now that I think about it this might garner more attention than not, since it very well could be the coolest hard drive mod I’ve seen to date.

With the approaching start of the NFL season right around the corner it only seems appropriate that Nintendo would be filing a patent for a new Wii Football controller. Presumably a soft Nerf style football, the above image depicts slots for where the Wii remote and nunchuk would fit. A hand strap is in place for safety but how could you not want to throw this thing? While this patent seems extra gimmicky, more worthless products have definitely seen the assembly line. According to sources, the ball will be able to sense running and throwing movements making it the most realistic football controller to date.
