Nokia officially announced the slimmed down version of their N97, the Mini N97. The cut backs aren’t drastic as this version features a 3.2-inch versus a 3.5-inch touchscreen, lacks a d-pad and a slightly smaller footprint. Nokia also says they’ve injected this version with “flick-scrolling”….
A few weeks, perhaps even almost a few months ago, Nokia introduced their flagship handset, the Nokia N97. I’m not a die hard Nokia fan, but what little I did see about the N97 before the official announcement had me relatively excited, and some what happy that the Finish phone company was truly taking the touchscreen smartphone game seriously. That is until I actually played with it. After spending some weeks with the N97 it’s most certainly a decent device, but it’s far from a game changer for the industry or the Nokia brand.
So at this point everyone and their mother knows that Apple has set the touchscreen smartphone bar with the iPhone. While I want to resist the comparison, you know there is just no freaking way. …Continue reading: Nokia N97 Review
I didn’t see this one coming. Apparently, there is a mini Nokia N97 floating around out there some where. It’s possible that the smaller touchscreen, QWERTY phone was conceived at the same time as the N97 and just didn’t make it to market. But since the N97 is a bit on the large side for some users (me, myself included) it’s not beyond reason to think a smaller version sans D-pad could be released. Or someone just had some Photoshop fun.
Aside from a missing directional pad, the mini N97, also named the N00, has less storage (8GB) and a smaller screen.
A knock at my door today and what do I have? A Nokia N97 fresh off the boat (it’s an EU version). Check the video below for the always exciting unboxing. So far I’m impressed with the phone’s solid build, good looking screen and easy to use interface. Unfortunately, the N97 won”t sync with my Macbook Pro right out of the box, so now I’m working on transferring my contacts and setting up email. Expect a full review in a few weeks time.
Looks like US Nokia flagship stores in Chicago and NYC received the black Nokia N97 today. You can pick on up for $699 or wait until June 25th when Amazon will ship it for $603.99. Unfortunately, Nokia might have missed their window of opportunity seeing as Apple just launched their updated iPhone 3G yesterday, the iPhone 3GS. But those who are fans of the Symbian OS and looking for the next evolution in Nokia communication the N97 should have it.
Remember Nokia’s N97, the smartphone the company hyped in December of last year? Today, the cell phone maker announced a June launch of the handset, which will occur simultaneously in 75 countries. We’re also hearing that the phone will cost about $700 in the US market, although we haven’t been able to verify that, with the exception of this Expansys page. During the initial roll out the N97 will be unlocked and completely unsubsidized, so start saving your hard earned greenbacks now.
Of note, it looks like that June 2nd ship date we heard about back in May was in fact the announce date.
Update:Amazon has it up for $603.99 and it looks like it will ship on June 25th! Thanks, commenter!
We first got word of the Nokia N97 back in early December of last year. Now according to some rumor, speculation and sources the smartphone will ship early June in the US. Although the ship date is said to be specifically June 2nd, I have my doubts since Expansys says the phone won’t be available to the UK crowd until June 26th, and they’ve historically received these types of handsets before the US. Expect the phone to cost about $700.
By way of Expansys, the UK release date and price for the Nokia N97 has been revealed. You can expect the all touchscreen handset on June 23rd for a wallet damaging £689.99 ($969 US). Note, that this is the expected release date and the US has yet to be announced.
