Walk into the wilderness with your iPhone with the GPS function blazing away and the battery is sure to drain in no time flat. Mophie, who has long made battery packs for the iPhone is well aware of this and in fact encourages such behavior. After all, they did release their very own trail map app. And with it has come their Juice Pack Plus Outdoor Edition battery pack.

It uses the same battery as found in their Juice Pack Plus battery, but the case has been upgraded to add greater protection against dings and drops. The dual-injected hard shell case sports a rubberized band around its circumference. However, it won’t inhibit you from removing the device from your pocket while adding more protection to the fragile iPhone 4s’ skin. However, without reading the product’s website I never would have known it sports such a feature, as the outer edge is as equally hard as the rest of the body.

Nevertheless, it’s a pleasure to old the iPhone in your hand with this case attached as it transforms the sharp edges to a more comfortable rounded form factor. This is complemented by 4 LED battery status lights that can be activated with the push of a button. While it may not have been intended, they’re bright enough to providing some lighting in a dark venue. These are located at the bottom of the case, which flash while it’s being charged up. Just to the left, sitting adjacent, is a switch to power the Juice Pack on and off and above it buttons for controlling volume and a port to access the iPhone’s vibrator switch. There is no port for your iPhone’s sync cable, but since you can use the mini-USB port to do just that and all the while charge the Juice Pack, it’s no matter.

As with all batteries your mileage will vary with use. For the most part I was able to recharge my iPhone to full from a 10-15% charge, but on occasion the Juice Pack Plus Outdoor Edition fell short, especially if I was surfing the web or constantly responding to emails. I actually found it to be most effective, and perhaps efficient, by simultaneously charging the Juice Pack Plus with the iPhone and leaving it turned on. That way my iPhone 4s would stay charged until the battery pack ran out of uice. Again, my mileage varied, but i could generally get a full days use out of the Juice Pack Plus Outdoor edition before the iPhone 4s’ battery would take over. However, on occasion I’d catch my iPhone displaying the Plugin Icon in the battery as if it we’re fully charged yet still draining the handset’s battery power. I resolved this by turning the Juice Pack Plus off the on, where upon it would begin charging again back to 100%. It’s not clear if this is an iOS issues or a Mophie issue, but it’s a small one so no big thing.

The Juice Pack Plus Outdoor Edition adds some significant bulk to the iPhone 4s, and while it doesn’t double it’s girth, it does come close. But with that comes some solid protection, though the screen will still be exposed as will the home button and the speaker. Since the bottom portion of the case covered the speaker and microphone, Mophie has added a set of ports to help channel these, and I couldn’t notice any decrease in amplitude and callers never claimed they couldn’t hear me.

Aesthetically the Mophie Juice Pack Plus Outdoor Edition is a real treat to the hand and eyes. The Orange band that wraps the circumference of the case is a nice touch to the overall aesthetic, though I’d gladly live without it if Mophie could slim down the case without compromising protection. That said, it’s a solid battery that is well built, adds some needed protection from dings and drop but sometimes suffers ever so slightly when it comes to delivering a full charge to the iPhone’s battery.

Editor’s Rating:

4 out of 5 stars

Great

Bottom Line: A protective case that recharges your iPhone to full if you’re willing to deal with added bulk.

Pros:

Fully recharges your iPhone 4s’ battery

Protects the edges and back of the iPhone 4s

Cool orange band wraps the circumference

Cons:

Battery mileage will vary with use

Adds some significant bulk

Doesn’t protect the screen or home button

Dropping $200+ on a GPS watch can be a deterring experience. And that probably explains why a large number of runners and hikers hit the trail with their iPhone in hand. The handset, with the right app running, can track distance, pace and more. A large caveat to this practice, though, is the tax on your iPhone’s battery life and the possibility of dropping it. Like a shark to blood, Mophie has sniffed out these short coming and has rejiggered their battery pack in the form of an Juice Pack Plus Outdoor Edition.

It’s effectively the same device as the Juice Pack Plus, but seems to include more protection in the form of a rubberized band that runs the edge of the battery pack. 2000mAh means that you should be able to double the battery life of Apple’s device, though that will vary widely depending on if you’re running their free GPS app.

The app itself is just 19mb in size, but what really makes it so attractive is that you can download offline maps in select areas if you happen to be travelling to a location that isn’t covered by your carrier. When a trail is completed, which can be found using their database of more than 1 million points of interest, the app will spit out a statistics page that can be shared via email or Facebook and accompanied by geo tagged photos.

The Mophie Juice Pack Outdoor Edition is available now for $119.99 – a $20 premium over their Juice Pack Plus, but as mentioned this version includes some added protection.

Firemall via Amazon is offering an unbelievable low price on this Mophie Juice Pack Air Case w/ Rechargeable Battery!

Now this is definitely a deal not to pass up! For a tiny sum you can grab this multifunctional case which not only protects your iPod but also increases its battery life! This Mophie Juice Pack can handle a wide variety of iPod Touch revisions and definitely gives it the juice to handle much more battery life as the name implies. It can provide you with an extra 42 hours of battery life to listen to all of your favorite music with and it does this in a very simple way. You simply plug it in like you would normally and the USB cable powers the battery of both the iPod and the case so once on the go they share the energy and give you not only a safer experience but a more fulfilling one. The case itself is durable and has a soft touch which can protect against shock while still remaining comfortable to hold or pocket and it includes 4 LED status indicators which of course tell you how much battery you have left to run on, but with as much as this adds you shouldn’t run out anytime soon.

Holy cow! If you’re iPod Touch needs power, cause you listen to tunes on a non-stop basis, you need to get this battery pack. They’re selling it for $70 off the retail price, making it just $9.99. Add $3.99 for S&H

The Juice Pack Plus sports all the same fixings as its smaller brother, which includes an on/off switch, LED battery indicators and the same protective casing that they say channels the audio to the front of the handset.

During our testing of the smaller Juice Pack we had a hard time getting a full charge on our iPhone 4, which we found very strange considering that it’s rated for 1500 mAh, 80 mAh more than the iPhone 4′s battery. We’ll see if we can get our hands on this one. Perhaps Mophie has made some tweaks to improve battery performance.

The use cases of Mophie and Intuits Complete Card Solution for the iPhone are just about infinite. But ask us and we’ll tell you the best use case: prostitution. What, you don’t agree? Okay, so the last thing people need is a paper trailer of their nefirous activities, but perhaps it could shove the world’s oldest occupation into legal status in all 50 states thanks to the ability to tax the street walkers.

Unlike Square‘s system it’s a complete protective case with credit card reader. Mohpie who built it, has partnered with Intiut, which are the Goliath in the space, which means integration directly into Quicken along with the guarantee of smooth processing.

Word is that you can sign up in as little as 15 minutes and while their is a monthly service fee of $13 (Square is $0), their cost per transaction is less than some competitors, though that will vary with card type being used (e.g. Amex).

The case features a swipe credit card reader and Intuit’s very own application for processing transactions. Each cards number information is encrypted before it reaches the iPhone and up to 50 users can be access a single account.

As of now there is only a 3Gs compatible case, but expect a 4G compatible version in due time.

Intuit GoPayment and mophie marketplace Offer
Complete Credit Card Solution for iPhone

Mobile App, Hardware Package Provides Everything Small Businesses
Need for On-the-go Payments; Available at Apple Retail Stores

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – Aug. 26, 2010 – Small businesses can now get everything they need in one package to quickly start processing credit cards on their Intuit Inc. (Nasdaq: INTU) and mophie [cq] today announced the availability of the Complete Credit Card Solution, an all-in-one product that enables small businesses to easily process credit card payments via the Apple iPhone. It integrates Intuit’s GoPayment credit card processing app and quick-to-activate merchant account with the mophie marketplace credit card reader. This package is now available in Apple Retail Stores and soon on Apple.com

As part of this solution, Intuit GoPayment offers a quick and easy application process that is designed to let merchants start processing credit cards on their iPhones in as few as 15 minutes. As an option, GoPayment is also compatible with QuickBooks® Mac to help save time in keeping business financial files up to date. “We designed this to meet the needs of small businesses who want a complete credit card solution that works with their iPhone,” said Chris Hylen, general manager of Intuit’s Payment Solutions division. “Now we have a best-in-class solution from Intuit and mophie to meet that need. This means that a business owner only needs to buy one package to get set up with everything they need to start taking mobile payments even before they leave the store.”

Doing more with mobile devices is key for small businesses on the go. “mophie designs products that enable consumers to do more with their Apple devices and that deliver additional convenience and freedom for all types of mobile activity,” said Shawn Doherty, COO of mophie. “This integrated hardware and software mobile payment solution enables immediate and secure financial transactions on the go for a vast audience of small business owners and their employees.” Enhanced GoPayment Features for the iPhone GoPayment has been on the market for more than a year and has already processed $35 million in transactions for small businesses. In addition to faster merchant account activation and integration with QuickBooks Mac, this latest version offers easier navigation with the ability for customers to sign their bill via the iPhone touch screen. It’s also possible to now add inventory items to receipts, which can instantly be e-mailed or sent by text to a customer for their records. To make GoPayment affordable for the smallest of small businesses, it also offers new simplified pricing with competitive discount rates and transaction fees.

How it Works

The speedy new Intuit Merchant Account application process is designed to let small business owners easily and quickly apply and be approved to start processing credit cards. A user can apply from the GoPayment App, online or by calling Intuit right from their iPhone.

By adding the sleek, clip-on mophie marketplace card reader, merchants can save time by securely swiping credit cards instead of entering numbers by hand. After swiping the card, data is immediately encrypted using Intuit’s industry-standard security methods. Customers authorize the payment by signing their name on the iPhone touch screen. The merchant can then send them an e-mail or text receipt. GoPayment processes the credit card within seconds and funds are deposited into the businesses’ bank account. An additional option lets businesses integrate GoPayment with QuickBooks Mac to easily and quickly match the right customer and invoice in QuickBooks.

mophie marketplace

mophie is well-known for its award-winning design and innovation of iPhone accessories, such as the juice pack line of rechargeable external battery cases, which have virtually doubled the battery life of more than 1 million iPhones. mophie’s marketplace is the only design- focused hardware innovation that adds layers of intelligence to enable payments on the go. The form-fitting, lightweight marketplace design is paired with instant card-encryption capabilities ensuring that all data is secure the moment the card is swiped.

Pricing and Availability

The Complete Credit Card Solution from Intuit and mophie is available for the iPhone 3G and 3GS for $179.95 at Apple Retail Stores and soon on Apple.com. It works exclusively with the Intuit GoPayment App, which is available for free from the App Store, www.itunes.com/appstore/.

Mophie hit the market as an innovator, but now it would seem that they’ve been relegated to producing run of the mill battery packs. Today, the company announced the juice pack reserve, boost and power station. I can’t find a picture or details of the power station, but it’s presumably the most powerful of the three, while the juice includes 1000mAh of power and the boost 1,500mAh. Each battery features a retractable pin, LED indicator lights and an LED flashlight. All three are compatible with the iPhone and iPod, where as the power station will also work with the iPad.

mophie juice pack universal Line Makes it Even Easier to Charge iPhone, iPod touch, iPad on the Go

June 23, 2010 02:48 PM Eastern Daylight Time
LOS ANGELES–(EON: Enhanced Online News)–mophie announces three new additions to its award-winning accessory line – the juice pack universal reserve, boost and power station. The sleek external batteries, with a retractable pin, are compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, meaning that Apple aficionados with multiple mobile devices need to look no further than mophie to add extra “juice.”

“In addition to new ways to keep the iPhone and iPod touch charged, we’re excited to enter the iPad accessory territory with the introduction of the power station.”
The mophie juice pack reserve will be available immediately, with the boost and power station arriving shortly thereafter. All of the quick charge units feature LED status indicators, and the reserve and boost feature LED flashlights. The reserve and boost chargers will work with all iPhone and iPod touch form factors, and the portability of those units means it’s now easier than ever to access extra power while on the go. The power station, in addition to working with the iPhone and iPod touch, is iPad compatible, and marks mophie’s first foray into accessories for the popular new device.

“We strive to continuously offer our customers new and convenient ways to harness additional, portable power, and the universal line is a natural progression beyond our juice pack case offering,” says Ross Howe, sales and product development director of mophie. “In addition to new ways to keep the iPhone and iPod touch charged, we’re excited to enter the iPad accessory territory with the introduction of the power station.”

Key to the universal line development was the inclusion of fast, powerful charging currents. mophie’s next generation iPhone accessories incorporate the latest advancements in portable power; the mophie reserve and mophie boost units integrate these developments to charge iPods and iPhones, while the mophie power station can charge iPods, iPhones and iPads.

In keeping with mophie’s minimal design aesthetic and non-invasive accessory philosophy, the modern, luxurious soft touch cases are available in a black/silver color combination. The cases are designed to enhance and work with each mobile device, rather than add extra, unnecessary bulk.

All members of the juice pack universal line will be available in Apple stores, and at www.apple.com or http://www.mophie.com; the reserve retails for $39.95, the boost for $59.95 and the power station for $99.95. For additional information regarding the mophie suite of products, please visit http://www.mophie.com.

The iPhone has become one of the most popular smartphones on the market today. But, like many of today’s handsets that boast powerful processors, wireless connectivity and large touchscreens, the iPhone is plagued with a sometimes unreasonably short battery life. To help you extend your iPhone’s battery, especially when in a pinch and short on space, here’s our list of top 5 iPhone battery backups.

Mophie JuicePack Air

As the slimmest full fledged battery pack on the market for the iPhone, the Mophie Juice Pack Air is clearly the leader. It’ll provide more than 1 complete charge for your iPhone and won’t add that much bulk to the handset’s slender build. It also features an on/off switch so you can choose when to use the juice and on its rear is a set of battery indicator lights that are so Apple. Available in purple, black and white for $80. Check out our full review.

Griffin PowerReserve Duo

The PowerReserve Due combines a car charger, wall charger and backup battery pack in one for your iPhone. The battery pack, which magnetically attaches to either unit (how cool is that?) charges while you charge the iPhone. It won’t restore more than 25-30% of your iPhone’s battery, but it’s small, charges quickly, features LED battery lights and is great in a pinch. It’s $60. Check out our full review.

Incase PowerSlider

The Incase Powerslider is similar to the Mophie Juice pack but offers a bit more protection for dings and bumps to your iPhone. On the back of the case are 5 LEDs which indicate how much battery juice is left. The bottom features a mini USB plug for syncing your iPhone and charging the battery pack, which means you never have to remove the case. It’s $80.

Casemate Fuel

The Casemate Fuel probably isn’t the most stylish iPhone battery pack, but it is the only one in this list with the always nerd certified clip. The maker claims an additional 9 hours of talk time which almost doubles the iPhone’s battery life and unlike some of the others, there is an on/off switch for engaging the extra juice when you choose to. It’s $79. Check out our full review.

iPWR SuperPack External iPhone Battery

Like some of its competitors the iPWR Superpack also more than doubles the iPhone’s battery life. Unfortunately, it greatly extends the length of the iPhone making it not so portable. But on the contrary. You see, the iPWR is actually the smallest and full powered of all the battery packs making it ideal for slipping into a pocket. You can grab one in white or black for $60.

Apple’s latest 3G iPhone has dominated the smartphone market with good reason. Its touch screen makes using the phone a joy and its storage and audio capacity makes it an excellent music player. Probably the weakest link of the iPhone is its relatively limited battery life. Unless you only use your iPhone to make telephone calls, chances are good you’ll never get through an entire day without needing to recharge its batteries. Since you may not always be near a convenient electrical outlet or USB port on a computer, you may want to invest in a portable battery pack that can power your iPhone. One of the more stylish iPhone battery packs is the Juice Pack from Mophie.

The Juice Pack is basically a battery embedded inside a protective case. Plugging the iPhone into the battery is as simple as slipping the iPhone inside the Juice Pack. The manufacturer claims that the Juice Pack can extend talk time and Internet use time up to 6 hours, video playback up to 8 hours, and audio playback up to 28 hours. However you use your iPhone, the Juice Pack insures that you’ll never need to worry about running out of power in the middle of the day again.

Charging the Juice Pack takes about 3 hours. Just plug in the included USB cable to the USB port of your computer and you’ll be able to recharge the Juice Pack and synchronize your data at the same time.
When plugged into the Juice Pack, your iPhone can still play audio and take pictures with its built-in camera. Surprisingly, the Juice Pack doesn’t block the iPhone’s external speakers so music sounds just as good as if the Juice Pack wasn’t even there.

To help you monitor the Juice Pack’s power, you can press a button on the back that illuminates zero to four lights. A full charged Juice Pack illuminates all four lights while a Juice Pack with less power will illuminate fewer lights.

Despite its added bulk, the Juice Pack doesn’t interfere with the slim size and weight of the iPhone. You will notice the added weight and thickness, but after a day or two carrying your iPhone plugged into the Juice Pack, you shouldn’t notice much difference at all.

For $99.95, the Juice Pack is reasonably priced, especially if you frequently travel and can’t recharge your iPhone during the day. If you can’t afford to let your iPhone’s batteries die on you, then the Juice Pack will be a wise investment.

Pros:

Light weight

Extends the iPhone’s battery life dramatically

Doesn’t interfere with the iPhone’s ordinary use

Cons:

$99.95 may be a bit pricey for some people

Thickness of the Juice Pack adds bulk and weight to the iPhone

The Mophie iPhone 3G Juice Pack is available here for $100
