Approaching a very DIY aesthetic, these new Lacie Sound2 Speakers are ready for compliments from your friends about how tight your set-up looks.  Designed by Neil Poulton, the speakers are specifically angled for computer use but can still be hooked up to a wide range of audio and video components.

Taking design cues from acoustic engineering company Cabasse’s loudspeaker technology, this system is capable of banging out 30 Watts at peak loudness.  Included is an integrated USB cord and will sell for around $142.  Where’s the dedicated sub I ask?  Now available at Lacie’s website.

What a tight little package this is.  Lacie’s new USB-powered portable dvd burner may be just what you need of you have and older Mac or PC without one.  Weighing less than a pound and standing only an inch tall it can probably fit into a laptop bag.

It will burn DVD’s at x8 and CD’s at x4 in a variety of formats, and comes with Toast 9 Basic for Mac systems and Creator Suite 10 with LightScribe for Windows.  The Mac version will cost $120 with the PC version costing $90.  Also bundled with the package is a power sharing USB 2.o cable.

I’m not sure if Lacie is actually making a better product or just trying to be the first to market with their latest LaCinema Rugged multimedia hard drive, the LaCinema Rugged HD.  Yup, this little blackbox of rubbery goodness can not only survive the odd ding, drop or bump, but can output its content in all the full HD glory you’ve come to expect from your LCD TV.  It includes a little remote control, HDMI output (composite video as well), is compatible with a shit load of video codecs and can upscale your non-HD videos, which is just about the last nail in the coffin for me to be convinced of its multimedia capabilities – it plays photos too.  Adding additional content to its hard drive (250GB, 320GB and 500GB) just means jacking it into your computer’s USB port and a power adapter is included for when your not.  The LaCinema Rugged HD drive looks to be available now and costs $169.99, $199.99 and $229.99 respectively.
