Looking to expand upon the built-in camera the iPhone provides? Well here’s an app just for that, and in this case you can get it for free. The HDR Photo Camera is designed to of course give you the ‘High Dynamic Range’ lighting and clarity to any photo you take. Now it does this by snapping three photos at once at different exposure levels and combining them together to create one perfect shot. Your mileage will vary of course depending on what you’re trying to capture, but they do suggest that the photo include some dark and some light areas for the absolute best results overall. But since it’s free you have nothing to lose in trying it out!

Now you can get this App as a free download straight from iTunes!

We’ve definitely had a wide range of products get sales hit in the past week. From video cameras to HDTVs at record breaking low prices and even smartphones and tablets. Here’s we’ve compiled a list of the best ones that are still around to take advantage of:

10. Panasonic HDC-TM41H Camcorder – $200

The paper loyalty card business has long existed. Pile that on top of the loyalty cards offered by the mainstream super markets and pharmacy and your wallet or purse is exploding. So what’s a consumer to do?

Well, there does some to be one solution, in terms of the paper loyalty cards. And when we say paper loyalty cards, we’re referring to the coffee shops and other retailers that offer a punch card. For example, if you get 10 punches, otherwise known as a coffee purchase, you’ll receive a free cup of coffee. But more often than not you lose the cards and don’t have them on your person at the time of purchase. Enter Stampt.

Stampt is an iOS app which replaces all of your paper loyalty cards. The service is currently available in New York, Cincinnati, Chicago, and San Francisco at what the company says are hundreds of locations. However, there is a slight catch. The store needs to sign up, although it’s free for them to join as it is for the consumer. To receive a stamp, you simply launch the application and using the built-in bar code scanner, scan the retailer’s Stampt loyalty card (we’re not sure if this is a physical card or a bar code on the iPhone). We’re assuming that stores are provided a window sticker of some sort to let consumers know that they’re participating.

The Stampt app requires that you, the consumer, sign up. Once you’ve done so it will ask to use your location and scan the area within 100 miles for retailers that are part of the program. Since the service is free, we can only assume that Stampt will later utilize your info to market to you and show you ads. That’s a caveat we’re willing to accept (it’s actually a brilliant idea), especially since this cuts back on paper waste and simplifies our lives. If you want you can connect the app to your Facebook and Twitter account so your friends can see where and what you’re saving.

As of right now the Stampt app is limited to the iOS store, though you can expect a version for Android devices to roll out later this year.

It ain’t easy looking good, just ask Miss America 2011, Alyssa Campanella. She beat out 50 other contestants at the the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. She’s originally from New Jersey but now resides in Los Angeles – no big surprise there. So how does the 21 year old stay fit and maintain her good looks for the cameras? A big part of it are genetics and age, but were willing to bet she’s referenced an iPhone beauty app or two. Here’s our list of the top 5 iPhone beauty apps that could help you look your best competition or not.

5. Lancôme Make-Up

With this app you can apply make-up to a virtual module with precise and realistic rendering. In other words, you don’t have to smear makeup all over you face, remove and start again if you want to try a new look out. They’ve also included a lash diagnostics tool, access to advice from from Lancôme Make-up Artists, view videos tutorials from make-up blogger Michelle Phan and receive news about their latest products.

4. Organic Spa Magazine Skin Care Guide

Beauty, as we all know it isn’t just on the outside. In fact it starts on the inside. And hence why you need this app. It provides a list of the leading companies in the natural and organic beauty field. They cover everything from health and wellness, eco fashion and design, green travel, organic beauty and skin care, organic foods and supplements, and everyday green living tips.

3. Lookz

Apparently, Lookz is the world’s first ‘made for mobile’ make up and beauty stylist. The app provides make-up video tutorials and provides the latest celebrity and fashion looks. Categories include Nails, Catwalk, Bollywood, Goth, Emo, Everyday, Clubbing and Celebrity. And if that isn’t enough, they’ve tossed in a bunch of hip wall papers to spruce up your iPhone

2. Sephora to Go

With the Sephora iPhone app buying beauty products has probably never been easier. The app lets you stay in touch with the latest releases, scan items in the store to look up a price, view past purchases, watch expert videos and more. And get this. For a limited time you’ll get a free iPhone case with your first online purchase.

1. iStylist Makeover

The iStylist app might just take the cake. It lets you pick an existing photo of yourself and then try hundreds of different hairstyles, glasses, hats, makeup, and facial hair. Yup, it’s designed for both males and females, but something tells us that the women are gonna be the most drawn to this. And like all good apps you can share your look with their community and receive a rating.

Watching your favorite sports team can sometimes result in a wrestling match over who controls the remote control. But alas, there is some relief in sight, thanks to a new WatchESPN application for the iPhone and iPad. It lets you stream live ESPN broadcasts to your iOS devices, but there is a catch. You’ll need to subscribe to one of these cable or Internet providers to gain access: Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, and Verizon. Though for the latter provider, you’ll only have access to ESPN3 if you don’t subscribe to their TV access.

When you fire up the app it will request your cable subscription credentials. Without those and you won’t be able to view the streams. We like this approach better than apps that require you to be on your home’s network, which we’ve seen in the past. As of now the app isn’t optimized for the iPad, but you can expect that to arrive this May in the form of a free update.

Looktel just dropped their latest app in the iPhone app store called Money Reader. It’s designed for the visually impaired or blind, and can recognize money and speak the denomination in real time, which means you don’t have to take a photo or have an Internet connection for it to work. Just point the iPhone’s camera at the money and it will recognize $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 bills.

We’re not sure how fast the app works, but we’ve seen some of the other Looktel apps of the past and their pretty speedy, as in with a second or two.

You can buy the app for $1.99.

The iPhone is great, but there are a few things that just don’t seem to make sense. One of those is the inability to send a number of photos at the same time to one recipient. Better yet, if you wanna backup your snapshots you’ve gotta plug your iPhone into your computer and go through the cumbersome process of syncing it with iTunes. That is until now.

CameraSync is a $1.99 app that runs in the background and instantly syncs your photos (and video) with Amazon’s S3 service, Flickr, FTP Server, Box.net or Dropbox service. That means, assuming you leave Dropbox running in the background on your laptop, you’ll automatically have your latest photos available for mass distribution, editing or whatever you fancy. The app works in conjunction with your iPhone’s camera roll and is also compatible with other photo applications, such as Hipstamatic.

Now keep in mind that the app has to be running in the background for it to work. You’ll need to of course register for an account, but after that you’re golden. Yes, it will upload full resolution photos and the app will remember what photos you delete so it doesn’t keep uploading the same one again and again.

CameraSync is available now from the app store.

Despite receiving poor reviews, the app Camera Mic app sounds pretty snazzy let alone useful.

Normally, to take a picture with Apple’s iPhone, you have to touch an on screen button to activate the shutter. If you’re anyone that owns this handset then you know how frustrating this can be for self portraits or if you’re trying to snap a clandestine pic.

The Camera Mic app converts the iPhone’s mic on both the handset and the headphones into a shutter button. To activate it you just run your finger over the surface of the mic, which detects a spike in volume, and the iPhone will shoot a photo. The audio level sensitivity can be adjusted in the event you’re in a loud setting, or on the converse a quiet one. Alternatively, you can blow into the mic, whistle or do whatever to create a sudden spike in volume. And that’s not all. It’s now compatible with Bluetooth headsets as well, which gives the app a little bit more bang for its buck…literally.

Sorry, but we’re gonna have to throw in the skepticism towel on this one. The app, 5-0 Radio Police Scanner, is said to offer access to live police, fire and EMT radio communications. While we don’t have any technical jargon or credibility when it comes to monitoring airwaves we were always led to believe it was an illegal activity, at least according to the movies from the 80s. Perhaps the feeds are of the more benign type?

Nonethless, the app is jam packed with features and info. You can gain access to a variety of other radio communique, look up short codes (187=murder) and communicate via live chat with other 5-0 Radio app users.

There is a free (light) and paid version that costs $1.99. What’s the difference between the two? We don’t know and it isn’t made evident on the product page.

For most, the iPad satiates one’s need for watching videos, surfing the net and other sorted activies. But for others its range of capabilities are much more alluring, especially for those cut from the cloth of a musician.

The Stompbox from Griffin works in tandem with Frontier Design’s iShred LIVE guitar app, which let’s you jam out on your iPad to a variety of settings and controls. The Stompbox facilitates real time switching of guitar effects directly within the iShred LIVE app without the need to remove your hands from your instrument and place them on to the tablet – it’s all down by the way of the foot. Each switch is assignable and effectively recreates the experience of an actual pedalboard with an almost endless array of options.

Griffin is mum on a launch date, but the price will be $99.99 and includes a heavy-duty dock connector cable.

On Friday (might have been early Saturday morning), as we predicted, Apple’s App store had its 10th billion, not million, app downloaded. To promote this momentous occasion Apple offered a $10,000 iTunes gift card to the lucky shopper as a way of promoting their overwhelming and sometimes ridiculous amount of success.

This is the woman, Gail Davis of Orpington Kent, who won it, then almost squandered it and then some how, with a bit of luck, which she clearly has, managed to finagle the winnings back.

The story goes something like this: the phone rang and her first reaction was to hang up assuming it was a prank call, which she did. Unbeknownst to her, her 14 and 17 year old daughters had been downloading apps that morning. When they realized the atrocity their mother had committed they prompted (whined and yelled) her to call Apple back. Unfortunately, Davis’ attempts were to no avail, that is until iTunes’ VP, Eddy Cue, got wind of the debacle and rectified the situation.

It’s probably safe to say Gail Davis is one lucky person and her daughters will be downloading apps for years to come, all on Apple’s tab.

Did you think there wouldn’t be a good application for augmented reality anytime soon, save maybe for advertising and fun at tradeshows?

Think again, because teaming the iPhone with a great optical character recognition script has given us Word Lens, which is an instant translation app for the iPhone. Point its camera at anything reasonably readable, and it will translate the text and display it superimposed over the live video feed.

Yes, that’s right, live text translation of anything on screen. A language pack will cost you $4.99, but there isn’t much flexibility as of yet, with only English and Spanish available, and translation from one to the other.

It’s compatible with the iPhone 3Gs and iPhone 4. Based on a customer’s review it is not available with the iPhone 3G, though the app’s page doesn’t explicitly say that.

The Google Latitude app allows you to choose who can see your location and to what detail; you can show your exact location or just what city you’re currently residing in. iPhone users will be able to toggle background updating on/off to not only conserve battery life, but to hide their location in real time.

No iPhone? No problem. You can login to the service via a computer and stalk track your friends.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Google eventually offers the ability to “check in” places, though a partnership with Four Square might be better served since they have a solid head start.

After pressure from the FCC and thousands, if not millions of user complaints, Apple has once again allowed Google’s Voice iPhone app back into the iTunes app store and it’s available today. Features you ask?

Cheap rates for international calls

Free text messaging to U.S. numbers

Voicemail transcription

Display your Google Voice number as caller ID when making calls

With push notifications, the app will alert you instantly when you receive a new voicemail or text message

Most of your calls will be placed via Direct Access Numbers, making them connect just as quickly as regular phone calls

My iPhone is my only phone, but in order for the app to really pull some weight I’d need to tell all my contacts to convert my main number to my Google voice number, something I’m just not willing to do.

Update: We just d/l it and we’re having problems. The app might be a bit buggy.

The Harmony Remote Control App has the quirky distinction of having become the coolest remote control app on the market straight from its opening day. And now it’s available for Android devices.

The app will have all the features found in Logitech’s physical Harmony Remotes, and will work on the iPhone, iPad and Android phones. Its release coincides with the launch of Logitech’s Revue, a device which permits any TV to connect to Google TV.

On top of controlling the Revue, the Harmony app can interact with loads of other devices – it even has gesture based commands. Watch Google TV, control your TV itself, the set top box, AV receiver, type using the Revue’s on screen keyboard and navigate pages with your phone’s cursor. The only requirement is having WiFi.

Some say yes, others, especially those who produce that app say the info is already readily available and poses no real threat.

The app is called Plane Finder AR and currently is only available in the UK. According to it’s developer that apps taps into a network of British plane spotters that use Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) receivers to intercept transmissions from passing aircraft.

Much like other iPhone augmented reality apps you just need to fire up the app, which taps into the iPhone’s camera, and then point it any direction. It will then display small bubbles of information about each plane as it comes into view of the iPhone’s camera.

Update: The app is available in the US, but the tech to track the plans, and perhaps the nerds that do so, aren’t really prevalent in the US of A. There is a free version that doesn’t include the AR here.
