One word is appropriate to describe professional gamers: intense. You don’t win national tournaments like the MLG (Major League Gaming) without being committed. In 2008, Astro Gaming, a sub-studio of design firm Astro Studios, released their high quality A40 headset specifically for these gamers. Now, Astro is set to release a new model for the millions of Xbox Live and PC users who want the same sort of audio quality for their gaming sessions.
The Astro A30 headset looks to bring the same type of design as the professional level A40s to a more mainstream audience. It features three different lengths of cord, swapped via a small module on the set. Gaming on your PC? Use the small cord. Sitting on the couch a few feet away from your HDTV? Go for the long one. A detachable boom mic and inline mic are also included. Sounds like they got everything covered with these.
The Astro A30 headset is available now from Astro Gaming for $149.

Check these massive wireless headphones from Sony Europe, the MDR-RF4000. They weigh in at .6 lbs, which might prove a bit neck wrenching after a few hours of use. But at the very least you won’t have to worry about disturbing your bedside partner, or perhaps your parents while you crank out some frags in MW2 thanks to their over sized cups. Other features include a 10 hour rechargeable batery with docking system, on phone volume control and a 30m range thanks to digital RF transmission.
There’s no word on if the MDR-RF4000 will hit the states. Price and launch date are unknown for Europe.

Sony has been scrapping to make a come back and apparently so far so good. Perhaps in an attempt to solidify their supposed comeback, they kicked out 3 new headphones that aren’t looking too shabby.
First up is the DR-350USB, a USB PC headphone with a boom, 30mm drivers and is available in black, red and gold. It has a built-in boom mic and a set of in-line controls for manipulating volume as well as a quick mute button. The appear pads appear to be slender in shape, so let’s hope they can put out some decent bass.

Next up is the DR-320DPV. It forgoes the USB jack for what I presume is a 3.5mm headphone jack. The inline volume control is limited to a jog dial (no mute function), has a mic built-in to the headset and the phones come in Gold, Blue, Red and Black. …Continue reading: Sony’s Newest Headphones Don’t Look Too Shabby

The Clipper headset is not as unique looking as Jabra’s Dog Tag Bluetooth headset, but for the most part it accomplishes the same thing. Just plug in any pair of headphones, Jabra or not, and you’ll be able to pair them with any Bluetooth enabled device of your choosing. It even has a built-in mic for taking calls and should get about 6 hours of talk time.
Expect it to cost about $60 when and if it retails here in the US.
