Sony’s PlayTV Finally Washes Up In Australia

November 2nd, 2009 10:13 AM | by Steve Anderson

Later this month marks the release of the Sony PlayTV, a Tivo-esque HDTV recorder that hooks to your PS3 and records television to the PS3’s hard drive.  They’ll be asking $169.95, at least in Australia, and can actually be used to record TV while the Playstation is actually playing games or Blu-ray discs.

Even more interesting, the PSP will work like a remote for the system, similar to how Apple uses the iPod touch or iPhone as a remote on its own stuff.

This has actually been something of a bit of vaporware for the Aussies, who’ve been waiting on this one since the start of 2009, but Sony made a bit of a splash when they put the announcement that this would come out in the second half of 2009 in writing.  Will it actually make it to market?  Time will tell, but not much of it.

Envizen ED8850A: The World’s First HDTV/DVD Player Combo

I’m surprised at this stage in the game that this combo isn’t available from other manufactures, but apparently this is the first portable HDTV and DVD player combo from none other than Envizen (never heard of them).  Which essentially means you can catch all over the air HD broadcasts of Sunday’s game and watch Monster Vs Aliens no matter where you are in the US.  Packing some extra punch to the mix is an SD/MMC/MS card reader, USB input and a rechargeable battery that is good for up to 2+ hours of viewing.  The 7-inch screen boasts a 400:1 contrast ratio, 480×234 resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio.  Amazon currently has the Envizen Digital ED8850A Duo Box Pro for $140.

DLO Home Dock HD Pro: The World’s First Upscaling iPod Dock

November 25th, 2008 4:28 AM | by M Dee Dubroff

Does this dock really transform iPod movies into HD video? Its price tag of $399 seems high enough for it to deliver as promised, but the question is, will it?

By plugging your iPod into this DLO Home Dock HD Pro, your video is instantly upscaled to 720p/1080i quality. The HDMI and optical digital audio ports on the machine’s back render a digital connection between the music player and home theater AV system. This custom Home Theater even has an RS-232 control port for those high-end home theater buffs.

This dock may deliver it promise of making HD video out of your iPod movies, but then again, it may not. It seems likely, however, if the user has some good quality video that’s not too compressed, this DLO Home Dock HD PRO will do an effective job. Installers of the DLO Home Dock PRO can easily, via a simple graphical interface, add the functionality of the popular iPod into any home integration network.  Available exclusively through the Professional Home Installation Market, whatever the Home Dock HD PRO turns out to be, it does represent a seamless integration of their iPod into their custom home entertainment system and the Home Dock PRO is the world’s first iPod dock that lets customers view and select their iPod content directly on their big-screen TV.

Sony Takes It’s XEL-1 OLED TV Wireless

September 11th, 2008 6:34 PM | by Christen da Costa

Cool Sony, but can you get me an OLED that’s bigger than 11-inches and wireless.  Price isn’t known, nor should it be since the Wireless XEL-1 is for show off purposes only.  In short, Sony added on HDTV thanks to the built-in wireless receiver (I’m preassuming it connects to a separate HD tuner) and a battery to make the experience all the richer.

More pics after the ‘leap’ …Continue reading: Sony Takes It’s XEL-1 OLED TV Wireless
