Boy how we did love us some Laser Tag. We’re not talking about those stand alone Laser Tag geek centers. Nope, we’re referring to the at home game that included a chest mounted sensor and black guns that looked like they were 20 years from the future. The sensors allowed you to be shot up to 4 or 5 times and then you were “dead,” that is until the next battle ensued. You could play the game any where at anytime, provided you had a direct line of site to your opponent and were willing to strip on the gear. So how about getting back to your routes without all the plasticky parts?

The Xappr is a gun specifically designed to complement currently up to 10 iOS games on your iPhone. It’s not clear how it works, but we’re assuming it links over either Bluetooth or the iPhone’s 30-pin port, allowing you to pull the trigger on the gun and pick off foes on your handset’s screen. The company also plans to kick out a mini-Xappr, which we can only assume is a smaller, more portable version of its big brother. But wait, there is more!

And for those of you looking to get nostalgic, as in Laser Tag, MetalCompass, the maker of the Xappr, has plans to release the first real world multiplayer first person shooter for smartphones – ATK. In other words, any where you go you’ll be able to play a game of would be Laser Tag with friends. Just whip out the Xappr, mount your phone and you’ll be able to choose between three modes of plays (Death-match, Last Man Standing and Teams Mode) and a variety of weapons that include guns, rifles, grenade launchers and powerful pulse weapons. We don’t know what ATK will look like, but clearly it will be a location based app that will allow you to virtually shoot your friends (or enemies) in the real world.

You can preorder the Xappr today for $30 plus $15 for S&H.

Zombie movies shot up in popularity over the last few years. It’s not the first time. Back in the late 80s there were a whole hoard of films that depicted the genre in all its gory, blood flowing ways. Fortunately, for us that’s as far as the fantasy has exceeded. In other words, we have yet to see a real life zombie, but in the event that we do DoubleStar will have you equipped with their Zombie-X AK rifle with an electric chainsaw.

Yup, we said chainsaw. It’s not of the gas powered type and after hitting the video you’ll question how much damage the 18v wood (bone) cutter can inflict. We sort of questioned the authenticity of the weapon itself, after all it is outfitted with a few biohazard symbols which are analogous to Hollywood. But after doing a quick search on Google we quickly discovered that Doublestar Inc is a legit manufacturer of guns that fire real ammo. It’s also equipped with a special safety, a battery back found at the butt of the gun and a Biohazard labeled scope.

DoubleStar hasn’t said when it will go on sale, but given all the Gears of War nerds roaming the Earth, there are sure to be a few takers.

Dedication is just the tip of the ice berg when it came to erecting this life sized Halo Sniper Rifle, otherwise known as the Sniper Rifle System 99 Anti-Matériel. And get this: it’s made from LEGO!

Its builder, Nick Jensen, is no stranger to LEGO gun builds, but none before have been so large. In fact, its size caused him to break the weapon twice before completing it. On one occasion he hastily picked it up before all the pieces were in place, where upon it fell to the floor. On another occasion the front grip collapsed due to the weight. But despite dropping it multiple times, he managed to complete the 5.5-foot LEGO gun, which weighs 10.5 pounds and features a removable magazine, sliding bolt and moving safety. Unfortunately, it doesn’t fire anything and God knows how many LEGO piece it took to make.

It’s that time again…when you eagerly count down the hours, minutes and, for some, minutes until your weekend festivities begin. But before you run out of the office, check out all the cool and exciting things that went down in the tech world for the week! From a Star Wars AT-AT Dog Costume to a .22 Caliber Gun Knife and even a Floating Magnetic Lamp, we’ve compiled some interesting reads to help entertain you while you do your weekend countdown. Enjoy!

8. BOSE OE2 Headphones

BOSE has released a new set of headphones, the OE2i and the OE2. The OE2i includes an inline mic that’s supposed to work with the iPhone, but features the same specs as the OE2. Both are lighter and smaller than BOSE’s original on-ear headphones and use memory foam, making them comfortable to wear. The OE2 and OE2is are available now in black or white for $149.95 and $179.95 respectively.

7. Tagg GPS Dog Tracker

Never worry about losing your canine friend thanks to the innovative new Tagg GPS Dog Tracker. As a very small device, simply attach it to your pet’s collar and you can log into the company’s website to track your dog. You can also setup a zone notification so that Fido doesn’t leave the confines of the zone. For $199.95, the Tagg’s master kit includes the tracker, a battery charger, USB and AC plug, as well as a year’s service.

6. Star Wars AT-AT Dog Costume

In celebration of Halloween why not dress up Fido in this cute and unique Star Wars AT-AT costume. It’s custom made by Katie Mello, but we’re sure you can have a professional seamstress replicate it.

5. Real Life-Like Masks from Real-f

The Japanese company, Real-f, is offering a life-like photocopy of your face or head to hand on your wall. Sounds freaky, but, hey, some people like that sort of stuff. So the digital images are printed on to an image on vinyl chloride resin stretched over a mold and then shipped to you to display.

4. Floating Magnetic Lamp

The Light-Light looks like a normal light, but the top – or really the lip of the lamp – is wireless, which lights up and floats freely above the base unit due to a set of magnets and innovative engineering minds (the company is called Crealev). The lights are pretty pricey, which is what you’d expect from some next level lighting like this. The price tag starts at $1,300.

3. iTar: The iPad Guitar

The iTar transform your iPad into a guitar thanks to Starr Labs’ patented button-based guitar fretboard. But the iPad’s touchscreen can also be converted into a “keytar” (piano guitar) or even a drum set, making the possibilities almost limitless! Since Starr Labs is a small shop they’ve created a donation campaign, with $200 minimum to get your own version.

2. SpyNet Laser Trip Wire

Set up a laser trip wire anywhere you want to protect some goods or valuables using The SpyNet Laser Trip Wire system. It comes with a transmitter that beams a laser to a receiver unit, in addition to two mirror units to expand its reach around corners and through doorways. If someone, or something, crosses its path an alarm will go off to notify you of an intruder.

1. A .22 Caliber Knife Gun

A knife that doubles as a gun…only on YouTube! This deadly weapon not only has the ability to cut and stab, but it also shoots thanks to a .22 caliber chamber. Where are the bullets you ask?

Chances are that the guy in these FPSRussia videos is anything but Russian. His English is too perfect and his accent a little to stereotypical. Nevertheless, there is no disputing the prowess of his weaponry, which seems to be anything but fake. In this particular video, aside from hunting for a keg of beer only to destroy it with an M4 Carbine, he shows us a .22 Caliber Knife Gun. Yes, a KNIFE GUN. You know, because stabbing someone in the gut is hardly enough damage. Then again, who ever said “don’t ever bring a knife to a gun fight” probably invented this. How it works and where the bullets are stored (probably the handle) is a bit of a mystery, but at least you’ll know what to look for the next time you get in a knife fight.

Head to 0:45 to see it in action.

This might be the most insanely awesome LEGO build we’ve ever seen. We ain’t saying the LEGO Death Stars aren’t cool, or that the Brick Gun is anything to snuff at. This build however takes the game to a whole new level.

The Lancer Assault Rifle is modeled after the same weapon found in the game “Gears of War”. And much like the real working version, in the, uh, game, this one has a real deal spinning chainsaw, though it probably won’t lope off anyone’s face or finger – it’ll probably leave you with a damaged cornea or bloody lip. A safety mechanism prevents the gun from misfiring rubber bands into people’s faces, which is the ammo of choice. A magazine stores the rubber bands, but we’re not sure if it can hold more than one or a whole mess of the elastic critters. But honestly, we don’t care so much about what this gun can do, but the level of detail and realism its maker has achieved despite being based on a video game.

The linked source page has a whole mess of photos detailing the build. Unfortunately, the step-by-step process to achieve this level of awesomeness is no where to be found. Nonetheless, our hats are off.

We know what someone is gonna be this Halloween.

The NERF Vortex Nitron can blast up to 20 Nerf discs at what is a reported 25-feet in rapid succession thanks to battery powered motor. Included is a Centerfire Tech Electronic Scope to help you nail your target in between the eyes using pulsing targeting lights that can flash at three different rates. And there is even on board storage for additional clips so you’ll never run low on fire power.

Much like a mini-gun, there are two triggers: one to power up the motor and one to fire the discs. This means that you’ll be ready to fire upon your enemy when they emerge from the confines of their cubicle. NERF has even gone as far as to include a disc eject switch to clear the barrel in the event of jammed ammo.

The NERF Vortex Nitron is available now from Amazon for about $44. You’ll also need to buy Six 1-1/2-volt C or LR 14 alkaline batteries, two 1-1/2-volt AAA or R03 batteries.

You probably don’t wanna know what goes into a marshmallow. From our accounts the tasty snack can last years without turning stale, which probably makes it a candidate for bunker food in the invent of a nuclear bomb dropping, though we’d rather opt for a Twinkie or ten.

In the event that your marshmallows do reach their shelf life, you can repurpose them with this high end Executive Elite Marshmallow Blaster. It’s probably not all that different from the other marshmallow guns, though this version is a single barrel affair, unlike the double barrel version we saw last year, and it’s compatible with the larger marshmallows.

The pump-action enables the ammo to fire up to 40 feet, barring any wind resistance and trajectory of course. Included is a suit case and what appears to be a carbon fiber finish.

Nieman Marcus, otherwise known as “needless mark up,” sells it for $55. Other places around the web has it for a bit cheaper.

If you’ve seen the movie “Most Wanted”, or the show “Mythbusters” then you probably know that the Ice Bullet, as an actual effective piece of ammunition, is purely myth.

“Most Wanted,” is clearly a fictional movie that stars Keenen Wayans and Jon Voight, so enough said there. And Mythbusters, well, they just straight up proved that it was a false hood. However, if neither of those are evidence enough to provide you with closure as to the viability of the Ice Bullet then you’ll probably need to start by manufacturing the ammunition.

To help get you started, on what will inevtiabley be a fruitless and hopeless quest, ThinkGeek sells the AK Ice Cube Tray. It makes ten 6.5cm long ice bullets. Just pour in water, close the tray and freeze. In a matter of hours you’ll have a killer set of ice cubes that will make any drink the to die for cocktail.

The tray is made up of two halves and is dishwasher safe. When it’s in a closed position it resembles an AK-47 magazine. You can buy it for just $7.99.

There is nothing worse than not knowing if you’ve been shot. Chances are that won’t be the case if you’re hit with an actual bullet. We’re actually referring to police training or just a friendly game of laser tag. So what’s an aspiring gun shot wound victim, or inducer, to do?

Drop $2,500 and get the StressVest. It delivers a real time shock, up to 4,500 volts, when your mark has been hit with a real gun retrofitted with one of their compatible, eye safe lasers. For police force trainees this is essential since it induces stress and provides a more real world experience, demanding them to think under the pressure of not only gun fire, but the possibility of actually being wounded in the line of fire. With each subsequent hit the voltage (i.e. stress) can automatically be increased. And unlike paintball, there is no mess to clean up and the chances of an unprotected individual being hit from a stray shot are zero to none.

In the event you’re looking for a more casual experience – you’ll need to have a federal ID to pick one of these up – the StressVest can be set to a vibration mode. Additionally, shooting distances can mimic that of the would be actual ammunition, and the lasers work through windows or windshields.

If you thought the Cube Gun was James Bond certified, you should have reserved judgment until you laid your eyes on the Zippo Gun. Some nut case has managed to convert the fire starting device into a real live shooting gun, though we haven’t been able to verify the latter statement. But if it turns out to be real, the Zippo Gun fires 4mm bullets from a barrel that replaces the wick of the lighter. Presumably it works by flicking the flint, which acts as a trigger to fire the bullet. Included is a Ronson Flint dispenser to carry the extra ammo. Genius.

If you’re looking to buy this truly pocket friendly weapon, tough luck. It was sold to a bidder in 2006 for $6800.

LEGOs are for kids, right? Why some might dispute that, especially in light of Darth Vader’s Personal Spacecraft, there are other options. Enter the BrickGun. They’re a 1:1 scale of the real thing and arrive in pieces (240 to be exact) for you to erect. Trigger, slide, hammer and even the shell ejector port function like the real thing, albeit on select models.

The notion of a LEGO gun is actually pretty scary, especially if one could produce an actually working version that fires real live bullets. Sneaking the weapon onto airplanes and into banks could be as easy as spending, well, the better part of an afternoon in the bathroom, since it probably takes sometime to build.

If you’d like your own Brick Gun head to their site and expect to pay about $80.

Handgun violence is off the charts in this country. Armatrix hopes to curve that in the coming years with their patented watch locking gun device.

The idea is straightforward: In order to use the gun the shooter, or hopefully in most cases the officer, must be wearing a watch that unlocks the gun, or for all intents and purposes turns off an electronic safety. But just in case both devices fall into the wrong hands the system also requires a fingerprint verification, which is checked against a database and can automatically turn off the gun at a pre-specified time.

If I was an officer and assigned one of these I’d be concerned about it locking up at the wrong time, say when a criminal has them in their sights.
