Wanna wail like a true rocker? Well, then send yourself off to some sort of institute, because nothing but hard work and practice will get you there. But if you wanna jump on the bandwagon of guitar novelty the Electronic Rock Guitar Shirts should fit the bill.
Without a doubt the NES Guitar gets the ‘random post of the day award’ (we don’t actually issue that award). Apparently, this is the second iteration of the mod and it actually works. Flipping up the cartridge slot reveals the 3 knobs generally found on a guitar and the AV out and power ports have been converted accordingly. Check the video below for a demo and complete walk through of their work.

While portability is the least of my concerns when it comes to playing Guitar Hero, NEXiLUX’s Miniguitar is one hip looking piece of kit. It comes in 3 pieces and snaps together in a matter of minutes to form an ultra thin wireless guitar. Best of all, it works with every system since they provided the necessary wireless dongle for the PS3 and Xbox 360, and the Wiimote snaps into the back. Hit the video below for a complete walk through. As of right now there is no word on a price or launch date, but it comes in black or white.

Sporting a similar features set to that of the Line 6 Back Track + Mic, the Ovation iDea Guitar features a built-in MP3 recorder that keeps tabs (puns intended) on all the rifts you knock out during your jam sessions. It records the blissfully inspired music from the guitar’s pickups, which should insure top notch sound quality. There’s also a built-in mic that will capture vocals and a small LCD screen for EQing and outputting select jams to your connected PC.
There has been countless times when I have been “noodling” on my guitar, yah know, playing but not really paying attention, and I write a stellar riff. And many times that moment has come and gone, and I don’t even remember how to play it, but I know it was cool. No more was. Line 6 addresses all of the scatterbrained ADD fools like me through the release of the Back Track, and the Back Track Mic. Dubbed as “Inspiration Insurance” the Back Track is “Always On” for use up to 24 hours a day, which sets it apart from any other pocket recorder with a mic, cuz you don’t have to futz with a record button. Just turn it on at the beginning of your jam, and the Back Track only records when it detects an incoming signal via 1/4 input or a condenser mic. If you end up writing a ballsy riff, just tap the “Mark” button and the riff is remembered. At the end of the day you can recharge the battery through a USB port, as well as transfer any “Marked” riffs Wav. file style. Sounds killer. It also sounds like it might be useful for comedian or hip-hop heads that are well spoken, and want to capture their verbalisms throughout the day.
The San Francisco based luthiers at Blackbird Guitars have taken it upon themselves to craft the ultimate travel guitar they call the Rider. Perhaps in homage to the classic Doors song “Riders on the Storm?” Seemingly fitting I’d say. Just in time for nuclear winter these bombproof, weatherproof, and virtually indestructible carbon-fiber guitars are the perfect choice for musicians looking for a guitar that is travel compact, without sacrificing tonal quality. The patent pending hollow bodied neck thru one piece is an epic departure from traditional design that proves time and time again, that less is more. Blackbird Guitars currently has two models in production, The Rider Steel String, and The Rider Nylon String. Both look positively post-apocalyptic, and if you have Slash’s email, let him know he should re-film November Rain while playing this guitar in the eye of Hurricane Gary. I will have a review up for the Steel String Rider in the coming weeks!
My largest complaint about Guitar Hero is the child sized plastic guitar included with the game. After a few songs my hands are cramped and my wrist surges with pain. Logitech, the purveyor of most things wireless, has officially unveiled their Premium Wireless Guitar Controller. It sports many of the same features found in a real guitar, including a metal fret board, real wood, and a rosewood finger board, amongst a slew of other features. They’ve also gone the extra mile and built a click free strum bar, which could prove off setting for those who depend on its metronome like quality. The Premium Wireless Guitar works with the PS3 and PS2 and comes packed with a USB receiver, which should provide up to 30 feet of range.
As unreal as it could be perceived, the Optron Fluorescent Light guitar looks to be the real deal. Watch the video and you’ll see its creator and player, Atsuhiro Ito, jam out while the light and audio reacts to his every move.

Look no longer for the ultimate air guitar experience. The Takaratomy Air Guitar Pro Electric uses an infrared string system to detect your strums and a variety of buttons both on the fret board and above it to produce a wide variety of notes.
They’ve also got acoustic version. Both versions are available here for $56.
