Thanks to iTunes being so generous and just giving away popular apps we have today a fitness assistant which provides multiple layers of information and tracking to keep you going on the schedule you need. With this app you can track and calculate all of your runs via GPS navigation, but at the same time can also schedule and plan them out based on how far you would like to go or even to the point of how many calories you want to burn. Keep it all timed so you know exactly where you are in it, and improve yourself if needbe. Calories are all taken into account, so you can always know where you are with that, and beyond the simple calculations it provides this app also boasts sexy voice feedback in either English or German if that’s how you roll.

Get this, today only, for FREE!

The stand alone GPS, you know, the thing you mount to your dashboard, is quickly becoming an antiquated device thanks to the likes of the iPhone and Android smartphones. But that hasn’t stopped TomTom from fighting a good fight, despite their market cap getting slashed in half overnight when Google announced free turn-by-turn directions on the Android platform. As a result the company has resorted to an ultra gimmicky feature that we absolutely love.

What is that? A variety of iconic movie and tv show characters can now provide you with voice directions. Last year they added Darth Vader and a few other Star Wars characters. And if you remember TomTom produced a short, yet entertaining video depicting Vader in the recording studio. Needless to say it was quite the gaff, especially when he strong arms the studio producer with The Force. Now, TomTom is back with Sesame Street voices. And what better way to market the new feature than to put Burt and Ernie in the audio booth for an adorable 2 minutes of fun. We don’t often say this, but you gotta watch, especially if need something to perk you up on this Monday.

However, you’ll have to spend $12.95 if you want Burt and Ernie directing to your next destination. That is assuming you still use your TomTom.

With plenty of sales over the last week it’s very clear how just about anyone could take advantage of the savings. Everything from Cameras to video game peripherals and Bluetooth Headsets have been graced with low prices, some of which the lowest we’ve ever seen. Here’s some of the best that are still around:

10. Nikon Coolpix S9100 12MP Digital Camera – $230

This dynamo of a camera was released earlier this year at a fair price of $350, but now thanks to some clever savings from Abe’s of Maine you can get this Nikon Coolpix S9100 for much cheaper. Just use the coupon code LOYALTY10 to bring the price down to this level and you can start snapping high quality 12MP photos with ease and get the perfect close-ups with its intense 18x Optical Zoom capabilities. Can’t go wrong here.

9. Bose Bluetooth Headset – $88

You remember eBays offering on this one? Yep it’s still around, and you can still grab this Bluetooth Headset from Bose at the lowest price on the net. This one is designed to be your swiss army knife for calls on the go, mainly in part to its noise cancellation technology on both ends to keep voices crystal clear even in very loud circumstances. The earphone portion is based on the powerful Triport technology Bose employs in their portable headphones, so sound quality is a definite plus here. This definitely won’t last much longer so grab it while its still alive.

It’s that time again…when you eagerly count down the hours, minutes and, for some, minutes until your weekend festivities begin. But before you run out of the office, check out all the cool and exciting things that went down in the tech world for the week! From a Star Wars AT-AT Dog Costume to a .22 Caliber Gun Knife and even a Floating Magnetic Lamp, we’ve compiled some interesting reads to help entertain you while you do your weekend countdown. Enjoy!

8. BOSE OE2 Headphones

BOSE has released a new set of headphones, the OE2i and the OE2. The OE2i includes an inline mic that’s supposed to work with the iPhone, but features the same specs as the OE2. Both are lighter and smaller than BOSE’s original on-ear headphones and use memory foam, making them comfortable to wear. The OE2 and OE2is are available now in black or white for $149.95 and $179.95 respectively.

7. Tagg GPS Dog Tracker

Never worry about losing your canine friend thanks to the innovative new Tagg GPS Dog Tracker. As a very small device, simply attach it to your pet’s collar and you can log into the company’s website to track your dog. You can also setup a zone notification so that Fido doesn’t leave the confines of the zone. For $199.95, the Tagg’s master kit includes the tracker, a battery charger, USB and AC plug, as well as a year’s service.

6. Star Wars AT-AT Dog Costume

In celebration of Halloween why not dress up Fido in this cute and unique Star Wars AT-AT costume. It’s custom made by Katie Mello, but we’re sure you can have a professional seamstress replicate it.

5. Real Life-Like Masks from Real-f

The Japanese company, Real-f, is offering a life-like photocopy of your face or head to hand on your wall. Sounds freaky, but, hey, some people like that sort of stuff. So the digital images are printed on to an image on vinyl chloride resin stretched over a mold and then shipped to you to display.

4. Floating Magnetic Lamp

The Light-Light looks like a normal light, but the top – or really the lip of the lamp – is wireless, which lights up and floats freely above the base unit due to a set of magnets and innovative engineering minds (the company is called Crealev). The lights are pretty pricey, which is what you’d expect from some next level lighting like this. The price tag starts at $1,300.

3. iTar: The iPad Guitar

The iTar transform your iPad into a guitar thanks to Starr Labs’ patented button-based guitar fretboard. But the iPad’s touchscreen can also be converted into a “keytar” (piano guitar) or even a drum set, making the possibilities almost limitless! Since Starr Labs is a small shop they’ve created a donation campaign, with $200 minimum to get your own version.

2. SpyNet Laser Trip Wire

Set up a laser trip wire anywhere you want to protect some goods or valuables using The SpyNet Laser Trip Wire system. It comes with a transmitter that beams a laser to a receiver unit, in addition to two mirror units to expand its reach around corners and through doorways. If someone, or something, crosses its path an alarm will go off to notify you of an intruder.

1. A .22 Caliber Knife Gun

A knife that doubles as a gun…only on YouTube! This deadly weapon not only has the ability to cut and stab, but it also shoots thanks to a .22 caliber chamber. Where are the bullets you ask?

Garmin’s line of Forerunner products has long been the choice of athletes across the globe. They track just about every stat an exercise fanatic would like to know, such as heart rate, distance, speed, calories burned and more. But triathletes, those who not only bike and run, also swim, and never has a Forerunner device been able to keep track of their fish like abilities, that is until now.

The Forerunner 910XT tracks the aforementioned assorment of data, but also keeps tabs on your detailed swim metrics. To be more specific, it can log your swim distance, stroke identification, stroke count and pool lengths. It will also compute something called a SWOLF score, which is the sum of the time it takes you to complete one length of the pool plus your strokes. So 15 second and 30 strokes gives you a SWOLF score of 45.

Like other Garmin devices, the Forerunner 910XT is compatible with their bike mount system, allowing it to be quickly transferred from the wrist to handlebars. In addition to Garmin’s heart rate monitors, we can only assume the 910XT is compatible with their cadence sensors, though there is no mention of it in the press release, so here’s hoping. And since you’ll clearly be going the distance with this GPS watch, both length and time wise, Garmin has given it a 20 hour battery life with all these features engaged. Lastly, the Forerunner 910XT is compatible with Garmin Connect and their wireless ANT+ tech that transfers stored data wirelessly to a computer using an included USB stick.

The Garmin Forerunner 910XT will ship sometime this quarter for $449.99.

Smartphones come a dime a dozen these days, with everybody wanting a piece of the market. But not everyone has the right goods though, making for some sorry ass smartphones that are doomed from the beginning. Apple’s iPhone continues to be a leader in the smartphone market, as well as a number of Android-based phones, but some tried to beat out these smartphone top dogs and fell flat on their face. Others just didn’t have what it takes to make a great smartphone and some just became obsolete because of newer and better versions.

7. Huawei M835

Poised to be a beginner’s smartphone, the Huawei M835 from MetroPCS is an Android phone to avoid like the plague. Released earlier this year, its design is a rip-off of T-Mobile’s Comet, the Huawei M835 is slow as hell and its performance is nonexistent. While it may sport a cheap price, we don’t give this smartphone too long before it becomes obsolete.

6. T-Mobile G2

T-Mobile’s first 4G device, the G2, is now gone forever. The official date of death was June 6, 2011. The HTC-built device had a good run and lots of rave reviews, but T-Mobiles myTouch 4G Slide was coming in, so they needed to replace one of the first Android phones available. It’s not entirely a fail, but it’s been discontinued, so it now lives in the smartphone graveyard like the aforementioned devices.

5. Palm Pre by HP

Hewlett-Packard said goodbye to the smartphone market in August when they announced that their Palm Pre devices would be discontinued. Out for a little more than a year, the Palm Pre was killed slowly due to slow development. HP also announced it would kill production on it’s tablet and looks to get out of the hardware manufacturing game as a whole and stay focused to the software side of things. Too bad because many thought their WebOS software was actually going places.

4. Dell Streak

Dell is well known in the PC market, but its try at an Android phone was more of a flop. Looking more like a tablet than a smartphone, the Streak is too large to be a phone and too small to be a real tablet. A phone that won’t fit your pocket would be an obvious feature for failure, but Dell didn’t think so. Many criticized Dell for trying to create an entirely new category for phones (or tablets), and they should have chosen the Streak to be one or the other…not both. It was officially discontinued in August.

3. Microsoft Kin

Microsoft’s Kin had a very short life span…only six weeks to be exact. The company blamed low sales numbers, but Microsoft just came too late to the smartphone party is more of why it failed. Primarily targeted to teens as a social device that would allow them to always be connected to their social life on Facebook or Twitter, the Internet connectivity was a bit too pricey than a teen could afford. Microsoft should stick to what they know…Word, Excel and PowerPoint. But who knows, they might have better luck with their Windows Phone 7 that has been coming up in tech news on the net lately.

2. Garminfone

The Garminfone wasn’t as successful as Garmin’s GPS products were. While everybody wants GPS capability in their smartphones, the Garminfone wasn’t exactly the Holy Grail of GPS-oriented phones. Sold through T-Mobile, the Garminfone failed to generate expected sales. Some say that it was due to poor marketing, while other say there are too many other options with GPS that the Garminfone was totally unnecessary.

1. Google Nexus One

Much hype surrounded Google’s Nexus One smartphone before it launched, with analysts believing that it would dethrone Apple’s iPhone and take over the market. Boasted as the iPhone killer, the Nexus One proved to be its own killer instead. Designed to be a replica of the iPhone, it still failed to have many of its notable features. It also had spotty or no 3G coverage, poor customer service and it didn’t have a major carrier backing it up, instead being sold to the consumer directly. It had such bad sales over its first six months that Google decided to discontinue selling it back in July 2010.

Canon’s Powershot S95 has long been regarded as a great point and shoot camera by many professionals and photo enthusiasts. Today, the company released its successor, the S100.

First off, Canon finally introduced an updated image processor, the DIGIC 5, which can also be found in the SX40, also announced today. So while we don’t know how this will translate in terms of photo quality, we can only assume that Canon has improved upon their tech resulting in improved image capture with less noise and more accurate colors.

A 12.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, full HD video capture, 24-120mm wide angle lens (5x optical zoom), optical image stabilization and a 6400 ISO make up the bulk of the optical features.

GPS has been added helping you keep track of your photo’s locations as well as your route throughout the day. A 3-inch LCD screen lets you review your handy work on the fly, which can be captured in RAW + JPEG for improved image quality, a feature often relegated to DSLR cameras.

Unlike comparable cameras in the same class the S100 boasts a a control ring on the front of the camera for fast, manual adjustment of pertinent functions such as ISO, zoom and focus.

They’ve also included High-speed Burst HQ for snapping up to 8 frames per second and a new Intelligent IS mode that automatically adjusts the camera’s features according to the use case (Normal, Macro, Panning, Dynamic, Powered, Tripod).
The Canon S100 will arrive in silver or black, and sell for $430 sometime in early November.

Garmin’s no stranger to the cycling world, which can be attested to by the release of the Edge 500 and 800. However, both of those options are pricey, costing $250 and 450 respectively. So the budget minded cyclist, the one that simply can’t justify spending a few thousand on a bike, probably has already negated the aforementioned units since they’re probably the equivalent price of a new frame or all together new bicycle.

So we’re not too surprised to see Garmin introduce a budget minded version, the Edge 200. When it goes on sale in the next few weeks it will cost just $149.99. Course, you won’t get a color touchscreen or ANT+ tech that connects it to a heart rate monitor or cadence sensor. But we feel as though that’s a worthy sacrifice seeing as it still boasts the same ruggedness as the higher end version, enabling riders to expose it to even some of the most harshest of elements, including rain and probably some colder weather. The high-sensitivity GPS receiver with HotFix satellite prediction should translate into very little wait time to find your location and the ability to track distance, calories burned and distance completed.

Much like most, if not all of Garmin’s products, riders will be able to share their data on Garmin Connects website (they’ve got a massive 70 million users), allowing them to face off against a virtual partner, track their workouts and find new routes no matter where they are in the world. They just need to plug it into a computer and upload their data.

Fujifilm is certainly no stranger to photography, but global positioning systems, now that’s a different story.

Yesterday, the company introduced the Finepix F600EXR. And while it boasts the usual assortment of high end point and shoot camera features (we’ll get into those in a sec), it includes a GPS system and a database of over 1 million points of interest. Users can also store their finds, building on the existing database, though we’re not sure if you can share those in a community like fashion. In the event you get lost during your travels you can use the F600EXR to backtrack or simply plot your trip, all which can be accessed using Photo Navigation, if necessary of course.

And the buck don’t stop there. There is a 16 megapixel sensor that can detect motion to reduce blur, EXR dynamic range, the usual image stabilization and a 15x optical zoom. On the back is a 460k 3-inch LCD, though it doesn’t look like it’s touchscreen, which we can most certainly live without. And lets not over look the F600EXR’s ability to capture full HD video and 360 degree panoramic shots.

The Fujufilm F600XR is expected to hit retail stores this October for $349.95.
