Driving stick and learning how to play chess are two things that I never learned to do. Checkers and automatic were the farthest I got. At any rate, this concept comes from designer Adam Frederick and as you can see from the picture it’s a chess board pitting eternal rivals Apple and PC to actually decide who is better. Looks like iPods and Zunes are in there along with laptops, desktops, and operating systems, but where are the Bill Gates and Steve Jobs figurines? The pieces look a little small to me. Any ideas on what could make this concept cooler?

Liking Sci-Fi is one thing, but being a gushing Trekkie is a totally separate thing. And when auto spell thinks Trekkie is a correctly spelled word I know I’m tip toeing through sacred lands. How devout of a Trekkie would you have to be to buy a Star Trek Record Player? Looking as cool as this, I’d say low tier at least. This concept is modeled after the USS Enterprise from the fabled Star Trek TV series and has a very “do not touch” museum appeal to it. No word if this will ever see the production line but it has to have more going for it than the Star Trek Cologne.

Heralded as the “tent of the future”, this concept tent from UK company Orange will have you camping out just to buy one. The Glastonbury Solar Tent is made from a photovoltaic fabric that has special solar threads woven in so you’ll never be without power for your GPS device or cell phone. To monitor power usage and storage the tent comes with a wireless LCD hub that even supports WiFi. In addition, not only will the tent glow for you but it can also transmit SMS text messages to inform you of its whereabouts in case you get lost. Finally, it uses a technology called groundsheet heat which is a heating element embedded in the floor of the tent that activates when the outside tempurature goes down. While all this sounds positively sweet, isn’t sort of the antithesis of going camping? On the other hand this would rock at a place like tent city in Sacramento.
