If you home is tight on space you’ll probably forgo installing a computer workspace. Which is too bad because everyone should be able to separate their home life from their work, but not all of us can afford a palatial pad with an extra room for knocking out after hours work. However, if you get creative you can double down on your space and the utility of your furniture.

Take for example the K Workstation. The shelf flows directly into the workstation providing not only a work space but an aesthetically pleasing setup. The website is a bit devoid of details and as far as we can tell it’s still in the development stage. And speaking of which, the K Workstation appears to be be currently in the design phase, at least according to the website, which reads “Under Product Development in Sweeden.”

Chances are it won’t be too expensive, when and if it ever goes into production, since it will be made from either Plywood or the always renewable bamboo.

Still debating how to finish off your living room? And by that we mean what kind of coffee table to invest in. After all, a coffee table is often the center piece to a any living room and tends to tie the whole aesthetic together. But seek no longer, because we’ve got the answer.

The Star Wars Coffee Tables. There are two to choose from. Personally we’d go with the Millennium Falcon since the Han Solo in Carbonite version seems a bit too disconcerting for us to sit for long periods of time in a relaxed state. But who knows. Maybe you’re a satist at heart and the idea of Harrison Ford frozen in time, sitting in the middle of your home’s living room has a certain appeal. Choose either one, though, and we’re sure you’ll have people gushing about how awesomely geeky you are.

But here is the bad news. The pieces appear to be one offs. The Millenium Falcon sold for just 950 UK ($1530 US). It’s made from a “cold cast bronze with retro veneers”. Does anyone else see a wood grain? On a positive note the Han Solo coffee table appears to be available. It costs 1250 UK ($2000) and is made from cold cast aluminum. There producing just 20 of these, so if you want one you best jump on it sooner than later.

They might be called coffee tables, but the reality is they’re often stacked high with your monthly dose of unread magazines. And while it might pay dividends to show your visitors that you’ve got a cerebral side to your good looks, it’s never a good thing when the stack of New Yorker magazine’s takes over the center piece to your living room. The Drop Desk Coffee Table incorporates a carbon steel frame, but more importantly a center that can pull double time as a magazine or book rack. You just drape the pages over the plywood slices and the magazines will hang freely and out of the way.

Sorry, no word on a price.

The Funky Blast Chair takes some serious audacity, pizazz and risky behavior to add this piece to your home. The UK chair is ironically crafted from American Ash and each leg, 31 in total, has received a hardwax oil finish, which we can only assume means it won’t crack or splinter over time. For $5,000, plus $250 in shipping, you can choose your color, but we’re digging the lime green.

MIT has a habit of fostering the creative minds that envision our future. So it should be no surprise to hear that these chairs, called SOFT rockers, come from architecture professor Sheila Kennedy and a team of students at MIT.

A built-in battery is automatically recharged when the sun appears thanks to a set of solar panels. But that’s not the only eco credit this getup has. Since they’re rocking chairs, the kinetic energy from shifting your weight back and forth can also be captured.

A set of internal lights can be powered off the battery for night time reading, while a USB plug charges whatever compatible gadgets you might be stowing in your pocket or backpack.

Still not convinced? Go checkout them out. They’re on display at the Killian Court at MIT in Boston, MA.

Moving most pieces of furniture is generally speaking a two person job. Sure, you could drag the couch or table across the room, but that might result in a damaged floor, injured back or a piece of furniture rendered unusable. And hence the genius of the Walking Table and Book Case by Wouter Scheublin.

They use a set of mechanics that when pushed, come to life, and walk like a giant spider. It’s creepy and mesmerizing at the same time.

They’re available in a walnut edition of 8 pieces for an unknown price, but we’re gonna guess ultra pricey.

Cats and shelves go hand-in-hand. Or should we say paw-in-paw. Because of their skittish nature cats prefer to be perched as high as possible. Since homes generally lack trees, the Cat Library should make for a nice resolve.

The shelving system is modular so you can move the shelves around to keep your pesty feline entertained and it even looks like there is a built-in seat.

It’s no secret that the majority of the US work force is out of shape. After all, most of us sit for a good portion of the day if not our lives. Adam Ben-David, who seems to have three first names, has designed a chair, the GymGym, to keep you in shape even while you sit on your ass.

The design is very Herman Miller worthy. It incorporates patented resistance band technology – the same rubber bands you see at the gym – that allows for up to 16 different exercises to be performed.

While it won’t add pounds of muscle to your skinny frame (I’m talking to you IT guy), it might help you shed some pounds and condition those atrophied muscles.

The GymGym is made from 95% recycle material and will sell for $599.

The three cubby holds are attached to two metal arms which are subsequently attached to an axis that mounts to your wall. Unfortunately, for us it’s a one off and doesn’t appear to be for sale. But who knows, like many gadgets that we’ve seen in the past, this one might garner enough popularity to become available for mass consumption.

The X Dream Gyroxus X-Box Gaming Chair is a contoured seat that turns when you turn and tilts when you tilt. They’ve billed it as a full motion controller, which we’d have to agree since the Xbox 360 (or PS3) controller comes built-in to the chair. And rightfully so, since it’s the special controller’s joystick that tells the chair which way it should bank and pitch. As a result there is no additional software to install or special hookups to add to your gaming console.

Dare I say it’s a deal, but you can grab one from BoysStuff for about $475 (£299.95).

The Duplex Workspace works as a normal desk, but when you’re looking for some added privacy you can just flip up the canopy. We like it because it’s made entirely of wood, though we’re not sure how many people will take to the idea of home use since most desks don’t sit in the middle of the room available for prying eyes, but rather are positioned against a wall. Right now it’s a concept and one prototype exists. If you’re down with it you can fund the project and at the very least you’ll get your own.

Paper Shredders have long been relegated to the dark corners of the home, but no more thanks to the Papervore coffee table. The mahogany and oak crank shreds whatever documents you place into the table’s top slit. It’s made from a single piece of powder coated aluminum that has been manipulated into the form you see in front of you and a clear acrylic bin captures the shavings.

A mere $1,950 will place one of these into your living room.

This handy dandy pop-up coffee table lets you turn your living room into an office in a moments notice. You can also use the space underneath for extra storage for weed pipes and remotes and stuff. The spring-loaded tabletop is made from birch veneer with a walnut finish and would be a great gift idea for the Ivy League couple in your life.

Weighing in at 48.5 pounds it should be sturdy enough to hold even the most archaic laptops and that Nordic Beer Stein that you just can’t keep your hands off of. The table is priced at $200, and while that’s more than I can afford, those looking to condense scenarios may want to go and check this out.

On sale now and some assembly is required.

Forget about book shelves – those are so passe. The HÜBLER Table’s concrete legs have built-in slots for storing all sorts of slender shaped objects or books, which ever you prefer. The glass top makes it viewable from all angles. Too bad there is no interior lighting in between the concrete blocks. That would make for one cool effect.
