I don’t know about you guys, but I douse the crap out of my charcoal in lighter fluid to insure a solid start to my BBQ experience. Course, this means, shall we say, a slightly enhanced flavor.

Enter the Looftlighter. No, it’s not a curling iron, though it’s shape most certainly resembles one. Instead it’s a handy device that blows, yes blows out hot air that is up to 1000 degree Fahrenheit in as little as 15 seconds.

Until we actually try one it is tough to say just how effective it really is, but if we’re to believe the products marketing copy you should be able to ignite a bbq or wood burning fire in no time flat.

I hate to say this, but the one benefit of being hearing impaired is not having to deal with the searing sounds of a household fire alarm. I guess being burned in a fire is worse, but I was just referring to when the batteries need changing.

A Japanese company called the Air Water Safety Service has designed a fire alarm that discharges he chemical compound allyl isothiocyanate, which is the compelling additive found in such harsh condiments as wasabi and horseradish.

After some significant testing, the device does work – waking test subjects at around 2.5 minutes, but so far the price of the alarm is set at a staggering $560! The company has plans to reintroduce the alarm at a later stage for $225, but still. I bet this thing wouldn’t budge Jackass’s Steve-O from a sound slumber.

Talk about a fire hazard! This would be a sweet scene for an action movie where a limp body gets thrown against it and catches on fire. But seriously now, this concept comes to us from Ironic Sans and while it would be totally useful, is totally insane. Would be a cool T-shirt as well. What else can I think of…a cool DIY dartboard, good for teaching kids and midgets how to safely scale down walls, etc. As I like to say, only in America!
