If you’re anything like me your credit card number has been stolen more than a few times. It’s beyond infuriating and while it doesn’t cost me anything, the inconvenience is surely worth something.

So hopefully NagraID Security’s new family of Mastercards will get rolled out any day now. Okay, so it will be years before we actually see these things in the marketplace, but much like those storage devices we’ve seen with a keypad, these cards could require you to punch in a pin before using it.

To prevent online purchase fraud a small screen, and perhaps even another level of authentication will be required to receive a one time pass code displayed on the card’s display located in the top right corner. The merchant’s site would be redirected to Mastercards verification page where the customer would be prompted to punch in the code before being able to complete the purchase. No card, then no purchase.

MASTERCARD and NAGRAID Security Introduce new Display Cards with Extended Features for Secure Banking Applications

NagraID Security developed a new family of MasterCard financial cards with integrated display screen allowing:

Optimized security for online transactions thanks to strong owner authentication
Display of the card balance on the card’s screen

La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland, 10th June 2010 – NagraID Security, a subsidiary of the Kudelski Group (SIX:KUD), is pleased to announce that its families of display cards passed MasterCard’s (CSI – Card Structure & Integrity) approval process, thus demonstrating the required levels of durability, safety and compliance to ISO standards required for the commercial launch of banking cards and the introduction into MasterCard’s brand standards and rules.

The innovative Debit and Credit MasterCard Display Card looks and feels like a normal credit or debit card but comes with an additional small display and a button that enables card holders to use the same card for standard banking payment functionality and to generate second-factor one-time passwords (OTPs), thereby providing strong authentication.

The cards are very reliable and extremely simple to use. They offer optimal security to achieve banking transactions outside payment terminals using one single device.

This password generation technology complies with the requirements of MasterCard’s 3D Secure Chip Authentication Program (CAP). Optionally, a touch-sensitive keypad with twelve keys permits access to advanced functionality such as electronic signature and authentication modes, as well as to enhanced security features such as challenge-response applications and PIN code card protection.

Historically, banking institutions who protected access to their services with a One-Time Password required the use of a separate cumbersome token.

“Cards were born from cardboard, they’ve been ‘mag striped’ and ‘chipped’ and now we enter their silicon age, with an LCD display and touchpad opening up a multitude of possibilities. With NagraID’s recent achievements to demonstrate compliance to industry standards, the stage has well and truly been set to deliver the next generation consumer’s card proposition” says Eric Tomlinson, MasterCard Europe.

“This display card is designed to provide a very high level of security and reliability as well as ease of use. Users simply press a button to generate an OTP for secure access to their online services,” commented Philippe Guillaud, Executive Vice President and CTO of NagraID Security. He also added “The programmable nature of this platform makes it future proof and one can expect to see even more exciting and fantastic functionality in the near future.”

MasterCard directed promotional initiatives and large scale roll-outs will ensure that market price expectations are achieved. “As the world evolves towards increasing online and cashless transactions, the timing of our partnership with MasterCard is ideal, as it enables the growing security expectations of a rapidly expanding base of digital technology users to be quickly addressed via a secure, reliable and unified solution in a familiar and convenient form-factor.” said Cyril Lalo, President and CEO of NagraID Security

Visa, the titan of credit cards, announced the In2Pay case for the iPhone today. It’s essentially enables your iPhone to perform a contactless payment using NFC technology. The case contains a microSD card that is embedded with a near field communication chip. Once your details are registered with the corresponding app all you have to do is swipe your phone (with case) by the pay terminal and the transaction will be completed.

Sounds cool, right? The only problem is that the necessary terminals are few and far between, but since the system is being rolled out by Visa and the case is built for the massively popular iPhone, there is a possibility that this form of payment will soon take off. But if Visa really wants the system to take off, they’ll need Apple to build NFC into their future devices or produces a SIM card that contains the technology.

SmartSwipe Revolutionizes Online
Shopping

World’s first truly secure personal credit card reader keeps PC safe while shopping
online

Regina, SK – July 14, 2009 – NetSecure Technologies is proud to offer US consumers the
immediate availability of SmartSwipe, a personal credit card reader that keeps your credit card
information and identity completely safe when you’re shopping online. Plug the SmartSwipe into your
computer’s USB port, visit your favorite online stores, and swipe your credit card exactly like you
would at a shop. SmartSwipe then scrambles and encrypts the user’s credit card data before it
reaches the user’s computer or internet providing instant protection from malicious software attacks.

Traditional online security only protects your sensitive information once it has reached the internet,
but not while it’s sitting on your computer. Credit card companies, online retailers and security
professionals spend millions every year to make the internet a safer place for credit card transactions.
Despite these constant advances, credit card data is stolen every day due to the vulnerability of
personal computers. Hackers and thieves make a living taking your credit card data and personal
information right from the desktop.

“Until now, there hasn’t been an affordable and effective solution for consumers to securely protect
their credit card data while shopping online” said Daniel McCann, President of NetSecure
Technologies. “Hackers have extremely sophisticated methods of circumventing traditional internet
security to steal your personal information right from your computer. SmartSwipe facilitates
transactions that leave no trace of credit card data, guaranteeing your information remains secure.”

SmartSwipe features simple plug and play installation and also eliminates the need to manually enter
credit card information saving time while you shop online. The SmartSwipe works with nearly every
major credit card and credit/debit card combination including Visa, MasterCard, American Express,
and Discover. System requirements include Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Internet Explorer 6 or
higher. It also features a 90 day no-hassle return policy should you not be 100% satisfied.

The SmartSwipe is available now from SmartSwipe.ca with a MSRP of $99.95. For more information
and a brief product demo video, please visit www.smartswipe.ca

About NetSecure

NetSecure is dedicated to providing consumer-oriented, next-generation online payment solutions to
break down the barriers that prevent consumers from fully embracing the online marketplace. At the
leading edge of eCommerce solutions, NetSecure provides consumers with the very best in
protection technology for online shopping. The flagship product, SmartSwipe, is the world’s first truly
secure personal credit card reader.
