Security is a very important thing, and with the technology becoming far superior when it comes to cameras you can easily get your hands on this marvel for a super discount! This Cisco Security Camera has all the features you need to keep everything safe, but the most important one to note is it’s PoE (Power Over Ethernet) technology which effectively allows you to eliminate power cables from the equation with a wired Ethernet cord powering the camera and putting it onto your network. Once it’s connected you can view the camera feed from any computer or smartphone no matter where you are, so you will never miss what’s going on, and with a wide angle field of view and interchangeable lenses you will never miss a thing. That’s only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what this camera is capable of!

Say goodbye to Cisco’s line of Flip Camcorders. Yesterday, the company announced that they would discontinue the production of their handy, pocket sized camcorders. Their official statement is that they “will exit aspects of its consumer businesses and realign the remaining consumer business to support four of its five key company priorities — core routing, switching and services; collaboration; architectures; and video.”

We’re not surprised to hear this news. In fact we’re a bit astonished it didn’t come sooner in light of the proliferation of smartphones, competitors and media players that sport high resolution camera sensors that can record full HD video in a comparable if not better quality.

According to Engadget, up to 550 employees will be let go.

Looks like Flip got out while the going was good. In Spring 2009 they sold the company to Cisco for an all stock deal that was valued at $590 million.

Cisco Restructures Consumer Business

SAN JOSE, CA–(Marketwire – April 12, 2011) – As part of the company’s comprehensive plan to align its operations, Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) today announced that it will exit aspects of its consumer businesses and realign the remaining consumer business to support four of its five key company priorities — core routing, switching and services; collaboration; architectures; and video. As part of its plan, Cisco will:

* Close down its Flip business and support current FlipShare customers and partners with a transition plan.
* Refocus Cisco’s Home Networking business for greater profitability and connection to the company’s core networking infrastructure as the network expands into a video platform in the home. These industry-leading products will continue to be available through retail channels.
* Integrate Cisco umi into the company’s Business TelePresence product line and operate through an enterprise and service provider go-to-market model, consistent with existing business TelePresence efforts.
* Assess core video technology integration of Cisco’s Eos media solutions business or other market opportunities for this business.

“We are making key, targeted moves as we align operations in support of our network-centric platform strategy,” said John Chambers, Cisco chairman and CEO. “As we move forward, our consumer efforts will focus on how we help our enterprise and service provider customers optimize and expand their offerings for consumers, and help ensure the network’s ability to deliver on those offerings.”

In connection with the changes to the consumer business, it is anticipated that Cisco will recognize restructuring charges to its GAAP financial results, with an aggregate pre-tax impact not expected to exceed $300 million during the third and fourth quarters of fiscal 2011. The charges will be disclosed in upcoming earnings conference calls and quarterly Form 10-Q filings. Additionally, the company expects this will result in a reduction of approximately 550 employees in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2011.

Well, here’s an interesting strategy — Cisco’s coming out with a seven-inch Android tablet, but they’re not trying to compete with the iPad with it. No, the Cius is business-oriented, and its biggest draw is 30fps, 720p video conferencing with a front facing camera in addition to a back facing 5MP one. Other specs include 802.11n Wifi, Bluetooth support, 3G/4G support and a removable battery expected to last eight hours. Though pricing isn’t available, expect it to land sometime in the first quarter of 2011.

Thanks to a tipster, we now know that Cisco is set to release a new Flip called the Slide HD. Based on the pics alone it appears to include a similar form factor as previous Flips, but when rotated to a landscape mode can be slid open. What lies beneath the screen is still unknown, but as you can see the display has grown drastically in size. Video resolution is still capped at 720p with a total of 16GB of memory for recording up to 4 hours of video.

Expect the official release any day now.

Looks like we were spot on when it came to the leaked info and pics of the FlipShare TV. As we assumed it won’t need to connect to your home’s Internet connection. Instead it will utilize its own wireless 802.11n USB dongle to transmit your Flip camcorder movies from your computer to your TV. But despite not requiring a home network or Internet connection, the FlipShare TV can connect with other Flip Share users enabling you to watch their ‘shared’ clips. But before you get too excited its safe to assume that the ‘shared videos’ are via your laptop’s Internet connection and not directly on the FlipShare TV. I’d also guess that Cisco will launch a wireless Flip camcorder at CES 2010, but that’s pure speculation.

The FlipShare TV comes with its own remote and goes on sale at all major retailers today for $149.99

FLIPSHARE TV NOW PLAYING IN A FAMILY ROOM OR ON A BIG SCREEN TV NEAR YOU

Latest Innovation from Flip Video Creates an Easy Way to Watch and Share Flip Videos on TVs Everywhere

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., December 2, 2009 – The makers of the acclaimed Flip Video™ family of camcorders, recently acquired by Cisco®, today announced a brand new innovation in home video sharing called FlipShare™ TV. An industry first, FlipShare TV brings the user’s entire Flip Video library of photos and videos into the family room and onto the TV screen without wires, and lets them share video instantly with other FlipShare TV owners. FlipShare TV extends the Flip Video product family by making it even easier for Flip users to enjoy and share video with friends and family anywhere.

“We’re bringing back the home movie night,” said Jonathan Kaplan, senior vice president and general manager, Cisco consumer products group. “There’s now a simple and affordable solution to view and share photos and videos on any TV.”

Like all Flip Video products, setting up and using FlipShare TV is simple. The small FlipShare TV base connects to the TV via the included composite cables or an HDMI cable, and the FlipShare TV USB key plugs into a USB port on a PC or Mac. The USB key and console are preconfigured to function wirelessly* so the Flip videos stored on the computer can be instantly viewed on the TV with no need for a wireless home network. Using the included wireless remote, the user can easily click through the intuitive TV interface to watch their favorite videos, custom movies, or photos and watch them in full HD.

FlipShare TV is designed to work with FlipShare 5.0, the new software from Flip Video that provides an easy way to organize, edit, and share favorite video moments online and through mobile phones. The new FlipShare TV takes sharing one step further by providing a simple way for users to display videos in full glory on their television, or share them with others on their TVs. With FlipShare TV, a user can also watch video shared by other Flip Video users on their own TV. FlipShare TV automatically accesses video shared through Flip Channels™, presenting them for users to watch directly through the simple FlipShare TV interface.

The Perfect Gift for Far-Away Family and Friends
FlipShare TV is a great new way to share videos with loved ones anywhere. A Flip user can simply set up Flip Channels within FlipShare and choose the friends and family they want to be able to watch. Whenever they add new content to a Flip Channel, everyone included in that channel can view it instantly. So now, grandparents can simply turn on the TV and watch the latest Flip video of their grandchildren, or siblings living far away can share video to each other’s TVs with ease.
