When ‘COD: World At War‘ hit the scene last year everyone and their little brother was ultra psyched for the Zombie board. After all, who doesn’t like slaying zombies, let alone Nazi Zombies. Now their first board, ‘Nacht der Untoten’ (German for ‘night of the dead’) has been transposed to the iPhone where you can engage in up to 4 player coop game play over WiFi (2 if Bluetooth).
At $9.99 it’s a bit steep, especially when you consider it’s just one board and the same board found on the console version. They’ve also got plans to roll out additional Nazi levels which will no doubt cost you.
Remember that special edition Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 console we wrote about back in September? It’s now available for preorder from Amazon for $399.99. Included is a massive 250GB hard drive, two black Xbox 360 wireless controllers, wired headset, the Modern Warfare 2 game and an Xbox 360 with an exclusive Modern Warfare 2 design. For this kind of cash I’d at least expect an HDMI cable to be included.
Aren’t we excited! Video game to movie translations can be an iffy thing at best, but it appears as though Activision is looking to take it’s hugely successful franchise to the silver screen. Do we think it will be comparable to other video game movies?
News of this had recently been contrived from Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling’s Twitter feed stating:
First round of meetings in Paris wrapped. Grabbing lunch with Xavier Gens, director of the Hitman film while in town. Talking game films.
Take what you will from that, nothing has been officialized yet but is has the blogs surmising for sure. How will they translate multi-player into the movie I wonder?
It looks like Activision has plans to bring the Call Of Duty series to the Nintendo DS. Called ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilised’, it will debut on the same day as the console version, 11.10.09 and will be what sounds like a comparable, albeit portable version of the ultra popular FPS. But unlike Modern Warfare 2, multiplayer will be limited to 6 people but will include a ’survival mode’, which requires players to fight off hordes of oncoming enemy forces. Unfortunately, at the time of this posting no screen shots or a trailer were available.
Wow, Treyarch is really making good on the DLC tip for Call Of Duty: World At War with its third installment coming sometime this August. Modern Warfare only had one sort of cool map pack. What the deal with that? While I heard that not many people were playing the second map back, do you think the impending release of Modern Warfare 2 will have any impact on players buying this DLC? With MW2 still months away there is still plenty of time to get your WW2 FPS on and raise your rank. The 3rd map pack will feature three multiplayer maps (Battery, Revolution and Breach) and one zombie map (Der Riese). As before the map pack will probably be $10 but let’s hope it’s $5 or even free given the fact we deserve it. Free will definitely have people playing it. People are also playing Battlefield 1943 right now so only time will truly tell. Still, big ups Treyarch for the continued support!
Earlier this week we got wind of a special edition Modern Warfare 2, called the Prestige Edition, and it includes a pair of night vision goggles amongst other things. Additionally, the community manager for the game did a little unboxing on video. At the time, though, he failed to mention the price, but we now know that it will cost a whopping $150 when the game is released on November 10th. That sure is pricey and with a whole bunch of other games that are coming out from Activision for the same price it’s gonna be a serious coin fip and then some for parents and children with not so padded expense accounts.
I think it’s fair to say that I’m pretty excited about Modern Warfare 2, which releases 11.10.09. But I don’t think there is any amount of hype that can get me to spend the coin necessary to obtain the Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition. Don’t get me wrong it’s cool as all get up but I just don’t see myself strapping on a pair of night vision goggles, especially here in LA, only to get the evil eye and probably arrested by LA’s finest.
You can hit the unboxing video below to see what else is inside or read this: MW2 night vision goggles + a “Soap” MacTavish head display, art book, hardened edition of the game and a token for downloading the first Call Of Duty from Xbox Live or PSN.
For all you hardcore COD fans, you’ll be pleased to hear that Activision has officially released their World at War Map Pack 2, the second installment of multiplayer maps. It features 4 new boards, which includes Shi No Numa, a Zombie Swamp. The map pack is available now for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 for $9.99. Hit the ‘leap’ for the full breakdown of maps and complete press release, or hit the ‘read’ link to go to the official site.
By now you’re probably clamoring for some more Modern Warfare 2 news, the next installment in the Call of Duty series. Although the video below doesn’t show too much, it does provide a quick glimpse into some of the scenarios we’ll be encountering, which includes a terrorist hijacking and ski mobiling. Why can’t November hurry up and be here already? The official and uncut trailer will air this Sunday, May 24th.
Having never played Map Pack 1, I did hear it was just ok. To be released sometime in June on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, Map Pack 2 will again have three multiplayer maps and one zombie map. It’s nice to see the support of an extra map pack, as Call of Duty 4 only saw one. Let’s just hope that the new map pack is worth the money. Watch the short video below for descriptions of the maps.
