Blackberry Storm 2 Now Available For $199.99

October 28th, 2009 2:09 PM | by Christen da Costa

Blackberry Storm 2

Verizon officially launched the Blackberry Storm 2 today, and despite its name, I think it is fair to say it will be overshadowed by the launch of the Motorola Droid.  Nonetheless, the device that a ton of people hated upon its first release is back for a second helping and this time around they’ve added WiFi, a preinstalled 16GB microSD card slot, a slightly updated facade and what RIM is claiming to be an improved SurePress click screen.  You can order one today for $179.99 after a $100 mail-in-rebate and 2-year contract signing.

inPulse Blackberry Watch Up For Preorder

October 26th, 2009 1:12 PM | by Christen da Costa

inpulse Blackberry Watch

Remember the inPulse, the perfect compliment to your Blackberry?  Well, today it got official and will ship this coming February for $149.  As previously stated the phone will display your incoming calls, messages, texts, emails and calendar info right on its 1.3-inch OLED screen.  They’re stating that the battery is good for up to 4 days, that is assuming you receive just 20-30 updates a day – we think most people receive double if not quadruple that in the business world so expect battery life to vary greatly.  There’s no such mention of a touchscreen (not possible at this price), but it would appear as though interaction is had through a single button.

  • 1.3″ full colour organic light-emitting-diode (OLED) display
  • Bluetooth® v2.0+EDR
  • 150 mAh lithium-ion polymer battery
  • Glass lens and full metal body
  • 22mm interchangeable wrist band
  • Vibrating motor
  • Micro-USB port (for charging)
  • Over-the-air firmware updates
  • Dimensions: 51mm height x 38mm width x 12mm depth

Blackberry HS-500 Wireless Headset Works For More Than The Blackberry

October 21st, 2009 9:21 AM | by Steve Anderson

BlackBerry-HS500-Bluetooth-headset1

Just when you thought your Blackberry couldn’t get more addictive, along comes the crew out at Research In Motion to give you one MORE toy–the RIM Blackberry HS-500 Wireless Headset.

Targeted toward Blackberry purists who absolutely must own everything Research In Motion can put out, as well as anybody needing a headset for any device that runs Bluetooth (iPhone users take note–your Blackberry headset can also be your iPhone headset if you have both devices!)

Early remarks say that the HS-500 is an item of understated grace that does the job solidly well, but anyone who wants a really flashy headset should look elsewhere. There are some problems with it, apparently, like a lack of dedicated volume keys, but that’s not too much trouble alongside the benefits it offers.  The device costs a whopping $80 or less, so anyone out for a great utilitarian headset should look here.

inPulse: The Blackberry Watch

October 19th, 2009 2:56 PM | by Christen da Costa

Blackberry Watch inPulse

Whoa doggy!  I never thought RIM would seep to this level of gimmick, but low and behold they have.  Okay, maybe that’s a bit unfair, but at first glance you do have to question the sanity of a Blackberry Watch.

Rumored to be called the inPulse Smartwatch (get it, the impulse to pick up your phone) , it’s actually a device that is designed to be complimentary to your Blackberry and not a stand alone cell phone, like we’ve seen from Kempler & Strauss, LG or Samsung.  It’s designed to provide you with updates, such as new email, whose calling you, etc all when your Blackberry is sealed away in your laptop bag or out of reach.

Spec wise not much is known right now, but word is that it’s sporting a bright and easy to read OLED screen – touchscreen, maybe.   Also, there’s no word on a release date or price, but the pics look pretty legit.

Looks like it’s official with AT&T’s announcement, the up to now black BlackBerry Bold will be making an appearance in a ghostly white skin. At first I thought it a bit strange but it’s definitely growing on me.

Elijah Wood Believes Our Gadgets Will Kill Us All

September 14th, 2009 9:27 AM | by Steve Anderson

elijah_wood_99

You’ve got to hand it to Elijah Wood for just plain old dramatic tension, folks–the man’s convinced that, someday, our gadgets will destroy humanity.

Here’s what he had to say about the Blackberry Uprising:

‘It’s madness. If it gets out of control and if it’s used for the wrong reasons or if it takes us away from our own humanity, then maybe that will be our downfall.”

Okay, so you’d think that a guy who genuinely believed this might well choose to set an example for the rest of us and toss out his own hardware first, right?  Well, sadly, you’d be very muchly wrong.  The hobbit’s got a cell phone and a Blackberry, which he keeps on him at all times.  He even cites his iPod as the reason he got into DJing.  Though give him credit, he does keep them out of sight and out of use during restaurant meals and at movie theatres.

So maybe it’s not quite as dire as he predicted.  But I guess if your iPod ever announces it wants to take over the world, maybe you’d better take it seriously…
