But as always, and probably forever (at least in our lifetime) those will probably never become reality. So, for now, we’ll have to settle with this to scale (looks that way) LEGO version of the town from Back to the Future 2, Hill Valley. If you look closely you’ll see that the detail is so precise that it even features a LEGO Marty McFly hovering across the water who, just like in the movie, is being chased by a pact of futuristic thugs – this really happened in the movie.

So where can you buy it? You can’t. It’s a one off.

If for some reason you couldn’t get your hands on one, here is chance to do so, albeit a 1:18 to scale sized replica. And it ain’t just a model, it’s also a 500GB hard drive. Unfortunately, it won’t achieve the same blazing fast speeds as the movie version since it sports a USB 2.0 connection.

For all this nostalgia you’ll pay $250, which is $2 per GB, unheard of in today’s market.

SKCNI’s Freelock System hails from Korea, and while it’s not exactly an example of self tying wireless shoelaces Back To The Future style, it’s different enough from normal shoelaces for us no notice.

The system has a dial that, when turns, tightens or loosens the laces. It takes between one and two turns to tighten or loosen it fully.

How durable is such a system? Probably nowhere near as durable as a good pair of shoelaces tied correctly, though I may be proven wrong and this will turn out to be the future of athletics. But that’s not too likely.

Remember that real life hover board inspired from the movie Back To The Future 2? Well, now you can make a pair of complimentary shoes inspired from the same movie. What, you don’t remember the power laces; the shoes that tightened themselves to Marty’s feet? Sure, they’re a bit bulky since there are two servo motors on the back, but at least there is a pressure sensitive switch that activates the laces. Unfortunately, the creator ran out of money so he could only complete one. Fortunately, he’s placed step-by-step instructions on to build your own.

Right after we talked about getting your very own Flux Capacitor, we find a guy who could really use one. A grad student named Matthew Riese has been working two years on a fully functional DeLorean Hovercraft (presumable to be upgraded to a time machine when the technology becomes available). But now Matthew’s run out of money, so he’s gone to to the internets for funding, offering original drawings, music, and more in exchange. Personally, I think there’s worse things you could spend a couple bucks on that to see this thing fly through the air — probably not at 88mph, but oh well.

I cannot believe how awesome this is. Entertainment Earth has produced a working replica of the Flux Capacitor from the Back To The Future series. By working, I mean it lights up via a switch thanks to some AA batteries, but you could totally try and see if it actually sends you back in time. This is an improved version of a replica first released back in 2008. Measuring 16-inches tall x 11-inches wide, it’s got a metal construction and movie-accurate details. Sadly, a Delorean is not included.

The Flux Capacitor Replica will be available in October for $229.69.

If you’ve seen a Wallace and Gromit cartoon lately, chances are you’re familiar with at least something vaguely like what I’m about to point out today–the Breakfast Machine.

Breakfast Machines aren’t exactly new. There was one in the old Pee Wee Herman movies. Doc Brown had one in Back to the Future, even if it didn’t work right. But now, thanks to two design artists at the Royal College of Art, there is now a real live Breakfast Machine.

The Breakfast Machine cooks omelettes, toast with butter and / or jam, coffee and fresh-squeezed orange juice all within the confines of its own framework. Even better, the Royal College of Art folks claim that this project can actually be replicated, at home, for less than two thousand dollars.

The device is currently disassembled, but its creators are hoping to take it on a world tour for exhibition and then bring it to London.
