No word on their comfort level, or whether they make you look like a badass. I guess you’ll have to just go up to someone and ask.

At this point in the game, the GPS market has been pretty much tapped. The innovation largely lies in smartphones, but Garmin has one trick left up their sleeve, the nuvi 3700 series. Winner of the Red Dot Design Award, the 3700 series is just 9mm thick making it the thinnest GPS device on the market today.

There are total of three 3700 devices (3790T, nüvi 3760T and nüvi 3750) and each boast a 4.3-inch glass capacitive touchscreen with pinch and tap to zoom functionality. The higher end model, the 3790t includes a “wake-up phrase” that lets you activate voice navigation commands and talk to your GPS so you never have to take your hands off the wheel. Other features that are available series wide include routing using historical traffic data, free traffic alerts, photo viewer, 2D/3D maps, pedestrian and public transit modes, lane assist, speed limit indicator and Bluetooth handsfree functionality.

There is no word on when the entire series will go on sale, but the higher end model, the 3790T, looks to be available soon for the retail price of $450.

There are days when we’d all love nothing more than to do some serious damage to those devices that we all know and love. That mysterious whatever it is that led Elvis Presley to shoot his television has happened to all of us, and it just reared its ugly head again.

For Donald Goodrich, he just couldn’t take his iPhone’s antics one second longer. He stormed into his local Apple Store and insisted that the gadget had made him “so mad, (he) could pop a 9mm at it”. That’s a quote, except he used “I” where I have he. This by itself may not have been any big deal–if Apple Store employees haven’t heard people threaten their devices before then they’re clearly in the wrong line of business–but where Donald Goodrich went too far was in showing the 9mm handgun he was carrying at the time TO said Apple Store employee.

Goodrich was charged with “aggravated menacing and causing fear of harm” to the Apple Store worker, though I don’t think he ever actually threatened the worker, just the iPhone. Plus there was a concealed weapons issue, but puzzling your way through a state’s concealed weapon law is almost as tough as multivariable calculus.

I’m in total awe of the Will It Blend guys. After all, they get paid to ‘blend’ (i.e. destroy) expensive consumer electronics to see if their Blendtec blenders can withstand the test. That’s when it hit me. Why not shoot stuff. Like in ‘shoot stuff with bullets’. And what wouldn’t be more perfect than the Sonim XP1 cell phone.

The company behind the virtually indestructible handset has already put it through a myriad of tests with no failure in sight. But, and yes this is a big BUT, they’ve never shot the XP1. Now, for the record, the company claims that the handset can take a 9mm bullet and that’s where we came in. So, naturally we scored an XP1 and went on a mission to Inglewood, to the LAX shooting range. What happened next is anyone’s guess…that is until you hit the below video and watch us in all our tomfoolery.

Update: A lot of people have pointed out that we didn’t shoot it with a 9mm. Believe me, we had intentions of doing so until Sonim asked us to start with a 22. We should have made it more clear and if the phone had survived a 22 we would’ve shot it with the 9.

Thanks to the LAX Shooting Range and letting us use your facilities before and after hours.

Thanks to Techzulu for coming out and shooting (double entendre) the video.
