HP is dropping mutitouch displays like it’s hot.  The biggest of the 4 announced today is the LD4200tm, which measures 42-inches and produces a full HD picture at 1920×1080.  To keep costs down on this massive touch display, they opted for a combination of infrared and imaging sensors, forgoing the costly capacitive technology.  To make all this magic happen, though, you’ll need to plug it into a computer via USB, while the screen’s imagery will be displayed by HDMI.  Other specs include a 9ms response time, 3000:1 contrast ratio and 500 cd/m2 brightness.

Expect the LD4200tm to show up in public environments and cost about $2,800.

Three New HP TouchSmart Products Give Consumers an Engaging Computing Experience

LONDON, UK, October 13, 2009 – Providing consumers with an engaging and interactive computing experience, HP today expanded its TouchSmart portfolio with three new products. They are:

• the HP Pavilion dv3 with TouchSmart – the industry’s first multi-touch clamshell laptop PC,

• the HP TouchSmart600 PC with 23-inch full HD 16:9 display,

• the HP TouchSmart300 PC with 20-inch 16:9 display.

Additionally, HP announced technology updates to the HP TouchSmart tx2, the industry’s first and only multi-touch consumer tablet PC.

All four products feature HP TouchSmart 3.0 software – HP’s latest touch suite that includes new applications – -TouchSmart Canvas for organising and editing photos with touch gestures and TouchSmart Live TV for not only watching television broadcasts but recording and pausing live TV and getting detailed information on programs using the electronic guide.

This new software complements enhanced TouchSmart applications – - Calendar, Clock, Music, Notes, Weather, TouchSmart Browser, TouchSmart DVD, TouchSmart Blu-ray DVD, TouchSmart RSS and TouchSmart Webcam.

Customers will find it easy to express their personal style with the customisable tile title bar and backgrounds. Additionally, new colours and transparency have been added for a fresh look.

“Touch makes the PC experience more engaging, fun and personal,” said Matthew Rogers, HP PSG Consumer Category Manager. “HP is on its third version of its renowned TouchSmart software and hardware while most other vendors are still conceiving what we have been shipping.”

HP TouchSmart 3.0 software

Boasting new visuals and personalisation, new interaction and improved applications, HP TouchSmart 3.0 software further delivers touch capabilities and an intuitive interactive experience to customers. Customers with previous TouchSmart PC models will soon be able to receive a software download with some of these new exclusive touch applications.

• New visuals: wide frames (16:9) to support new hardware and new colours

• Personalisation: a selection of tile colours and backgrounds to chose from

• Interactive tiles: quick access to all touch content and direct interaction with all applications

• Enhanced core applications: multi-touch capabilities and usability improvements

Countries without borders would probably be a political nightmare, but when it comes to LCD TVs it’s aesthetic bliss.  LG’s newest sets, announced at this year’s IFA conference, boasts high refresh rates, ultra high contrast ratios and as alluded to a borderless design.

First up is the SL9000 and 9500 (42-inch and 47-inch).  It rocks a 3,000,000:1 contrast ratio, a 2.9cm slim body, 100hz refresh rate, 1920×1080 resolution, Bluetooth, a USB 2.0 input for viewing media and LEDs lined along the edge, which gives it that slim and trim body.  It’s younger sibling, the SL8000 (32, 37, 42, 47”) is slightly fatter at 4.5cm but has a higher refresh rate of 200hz.

The flagship of bunch is the LH9000, which is available in a 42-inch and 47-inch size.  It lacks the Borderless design, but it’s completely LED backlit which explains its massive 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio.  It too has a 200hz refresh rate and all of the above features.

At this time LG hasn’t announced a launch date or price, but were hearing they’ll arrive sometime in October or November.
