Motorola just splashed down at CES 2012 with the announcement of the DROID 4, currently the world’s thinnest 4G enabled QWERTY smartphone – it measures .5-inches thick.  But that isn’t all this powerhouse has to offer.

In addition to a massive 4-inch qHD screen (960×540), is a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM.  There is also of course the aforementioned QWERTY keyboard that comes in a 5 row flavor, 16GB of built-in storage expandable by an additional 32GB thanks to the microSD card slot, 4G connectivity for up to 12mbps download speeds, Mobile Hotspot support for up to 8 devices and Android 2.3.5 (it will be upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich).

To ensure that the DROID 4 keeps on ticking, Motorola has slapped the outside of it with a water-repellent nanocoating, which was also found on the DROID RAZR.  They’ve also made it business ready by including government-grade encryption (FIPS 140-2) for email, calendar and contacts.

In the accessories department, the DROID 4 will be compatible with the  10.1-inch Lapdock 100, 14-inch Lapdock 500 Pro with built-in webcam and Ethernet connection, HD Dock, HD Station and vehicle navigation mount.

No word on a price, but Verizon will begin to sell the phone before the month’s end.  We’d expect to pay about $200 on contract during the initial launch.

It’s so thin and so light, you’ll hardly know that the LG Marquee, available on Sprint, is in your pocket.  We just got a hands on with this phone and the screen, which produces 700 nits of brightness and measures 4-inches, is absolutely stunning.  The phone is currently on sale for $99.99 with a 2-year contract, but give it another week and you might see it for cheaper; it just launched on October 2nd.

While there is still no official word from Big Red on the launch of the Incredible 2, a few more pics of the phone leaked out today.  So does that mean the phone is arriving this month? No way to tell, but generally the more we hear and see a yet to be released handset, chances are that it’s drawing closer to an official release.  So we’re putting our money on the end of April for the Incredible 2, but for the sake of complete disclosure we don’t have a leg to stand on to back up that statement.

Apple has long sold a non-celluar version of the iPhone – it’s called the iPod Touch.  Effectively they’re the same products, yet the iPhone boasts the ability to make and receive voice telephone calls over a cellular network.  Following suit is Samsung, who today announced that their Samsung Galaxy Player 4 and 5 will be hitting US shores sometime this Spring.

In terms of specs they’re virtually identical, with the exception that the 5′s screen measures 1-inch larger (5-inches) than the 4 and pairs an LED flash with the rear facing 3.2 megapixel camera.  Both players will ship with Froyo (Android 2.2), but can be upgraded to 2.3, have a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera, stereo speakers, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, 8GB of built-in storage (expandable to 32GB via a microSD card slot), DLNA certification and WVGA touchscreens.

Pricing is still anyone’s guess.

Thanks to the AndroidGuys, we have pics and details on Samsung’s i897, which looks to to be the company’s big effort at an Android handset. The i897 is an Android 2.1 smartphone sporting a 4-inch AMOLED touchscreen, a Snapdragon processor, and a 5MP camera. That’s about all we know right, except for this — the plastic wrap in the photos is probably not included.

At this point I think it pretty fair to say that LG’s newest Chocolate phone, the BL40, is pretty massive in size. Take a look at this newly minted commercial below and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Check out the woman’s hands in proportion to the phone. I mean, the thing truly is the size of a Hershey bar. By my estimates it’s gotta be almost 3/4 of an inch longer than the iPhone in order to squeeze in a screen that is .5-inch larger than Apple’s.

Sony Ericsson maybe struggling for market share, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a few tricks up their sleeves.  Leaked by way of Expansys, we now know that the handset manufacture will release an Android version of their Xperia phone called the Xperia X3 Rachael.   Spec wise you can expect an 8 megapixel camera with face detect, LED flash and image stabilization.  Also included will be some sort of custom UI atop the Android OS – probably more panel stuff – as well as quad-band GSM connectivity, a 4-inch 800×400 touchscreen, WiFi, aGPS, Bluetooth 2.1, 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD card slot.

Maybe it was all the Nintendo DS fanfare that got Fujitsu on board with this design, but in any case it should prove to be an interesting precedent in the laptop world.  Embedded just above the LifeBook N7010′s keyboard is a 4-inch LCD touchscreen that can be loaded with whatever imagery or apps you so choose.  The lappy’s specs shouldn’t be overlooked either, which include 4GB of RAM, 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3470 video card, 2.26GHz P8400 Core 2 Duo processor, 320GB hard drive, Blu-ray player, WiFi, Bluetooth, a 1.3MP webcam and a boat load of ports.

You’re probably expecting some ridonculous price, right?  Wrong, it’s just $1,500.
