October 28th, 2009 4:31 PM | by Christen da Costa
When ever I work remotely (aka Coffee Bean) I carry my laptop in a Booq sleeve. While I can wax poetic about this sweet hard case, one thing it’s lacking is a design built for working directly from the case without removing it.

Enter the Viper rush. Available in a M (15-inch) and L (17-inch) sizes, the Viper rush zips open 120 degree and features special bumpers to dissipate heat, a neoprene non-scratch pocket and what should prove to be a tear free seat belt style shoulder strap. The only thing I don’t like about this case is the price tag: $129.95. …Continue reading: Booq Viper rush Notebook Case

LG Readying 15-inch OLED Display For November Launch
August 31st, 2009 9:45 PM | by Christen da Costa
I’m still not sold on the whole OLED experience, at least as far as home entertainment goes. Although, I do believe it’s a great piece of tech for the portable gadget market since it’s light on power consumption and boasts a stunning picture; laptops included.
So pardon mean when I don’t sound too excited about LG’s announcement to bring their 15-inch OLED screen to Korea this November with other markets following sometime in early 2010. While this set does trump the competition in terms of size, it does make me wonder how much it will cost since Sony’s 11-inch XEL-1 is currently listed at a whopping $2,500.
Apple Issues Firmware Update To Fix Macbook Pro Hard Drive Issues
August 20th, 2009 2:00 PM | by Christen da Costa
For those of you lucky enough to own a 13-inch or 15-inch Macbook Pro, you’ll be glad to hear that Apple issued a Firmware update today that fixes the hard drive’s tendency to make noise or freeze. This update applies to those who purchased the Unibody laptop in June and with a 500GB 7200rpm hard drive.
A buddy of mine, who purchased a 15-inch Macbook Pro has already had his hard drive replaced after just a few months of use. Since were on the topic of flaws, Apple’s design team overlooked just how uncomfortable the computer’s edges are on the wrists. Anything else that’s worth noting?
To grab the update, just hit your system preferences and fire up ’software update’ or hit the ‘read’ link.

Gadget Review: Booq BOA 3L Laptop Backpack
April 10th, 2009 5:02 PM | by Christen da Costa
Finding a quality back pack that is laptop friendly is liking searching for a needle in a haystack. It’s not that the bags don’t exist, it’s just that 90% of them are crap, which is very much analogous to my hunt for a quality sleeve for my Macbook Pro. So once again I found myself perusing Booq Bags’ website and taking in all the wonderful products they had to offer.
What I ended up with is the perfect compliment to the Vyper M2 laptop sleeve, the BOA 3L. Finished in all black with orange accents and array of pockets, the BOA 3L is not for the coffee shop dweller. It’s filled with an endless, but useful array of pockets for just about any gadget, utensil or laptop you can think of. It’s specifically designed to hold laptops from 15″ to 17″ in size and then some since its built to holster the Vyper M2 sleeve.

Gadget Review: Booq Vyper M2 15-inch Macbook Pro Sleeve
March 11th, 2009 8:06 PM | by Christen da Costa
About two months ago I dropped some of my hard earned cash on brand new (now the old body) 15-inch Macbook Pro. On occasion I hit up my local coffee shop, which requires me to pack up my stuff, laptop included, and go mobile. You’re gonna cringe when you read this, but for about a few months I was wrapping my computer in some left over bubble wrap and tossing it in my bike bag. Awful, I know. So after many precarious to and fro carries to the coffee shop I decided it was time I protect my investment. What I ended up with is by far the best and most sturdy laptop sleeve I’ve ever crossed paths with: The Vyper M2 from Booq bags.
I looked at all the other cases on the market and they all seemed to be rebranded versions of the same Neoprene sleeve. Not so with the Vyper M2. It’s crafted of Ballistic Nylon, which is more or less marketing speak for a semi hard case made of tightly wound Nylon. The outer casing is rigid enough that you can achieve a ‘knock’, but flexible in that its not like carrying a college book in your bag. On the inside is a soft and somewhat thin layer of padding, but matched with the hard outer shell it is suffice to say that the Vyper M2 might just protect a laptop down a short flight of stair, or at the very least narrow coffee shop doorway. …Continue reading: Gadget Review: Booq Vyper M2 15-inch Macbook Pro Sleeve
