Gadget Leak: Crunchpad 12-inch Tablet Pictures

April 10th, 2009 2:45 PM | by Christen da Costa

crunchpad-2

We first heard about the Crunchpad January 2009.  Now, and ironically, the company that is known for getting the scoop has been scooped.  Last night a handful of pictures detailing the latest iteration of the Crunchpad were leaked to the blogosphere.  Soon after Crunchgear, the gadget arm of Techcrunch conceded and posted more pics since the ‘cat was out of the bag’.  Now Arrington, the man behind the curtain has written a post dedicated to the Crunchpad discussing its genesis and more importantly the cost to build the machine, $250.  Techcrunch hasn’t said if the machine will come to market, but at the end of the day, and as I commented on another blog, the Crunchpad is an oversized MID, which for some will either hate it or love it.  So to be clear, don’t expect it to be a data entry machine or a full blown email device.  No, the Crunchpad will be for you and your friends to huddle around and watch stupid YouTube clips of kids falling on their faces or glancing at your email.

Specs that we know:

  • 12-inch capacitive touchscreen
  • Microphone
  • Macbook Air thin
  • Intel Atom processor
  • WiFi
  • Open source
  • Camera
  • Speakers
  • USB input

Acer Looks To Speed Pass The Competition With The Ferrari 1200 Laptop

February 2nd, 2009 9:06 PM | by Christen da Costa

Another day and another laptop cruises by.  Pardon the pun, but it’s just so darn appropriate given Acer’s latest 12.1-inch notebook, the Ferrari 1200.  Adorned in a carbon fiber like finish, the 1200 features a plethora of car like finishes, which includes an anodised metal touchpad that represents a sports car’s racing pedals and of course a Ferrari red racing stripe. Under the hood is a  AMD Turion X2 Ultra dual-core processor, 4GB of DDR2 RAM, DVD burner, Bluetooth, WiFi, webcam and a yet to be mentioned (or determined) hard drive size.

No word on price or availability, but the Acer Ferrari 1200 will be bundled with a wireless mouse.

Crunchpad: Michael Arrington’s $200 Internet Tablet Device (video)

January 19th, 2009 2:57 PM | by Christen da Costa

I don’t know how he did it (or does it), but the famous Michael Arrington of Techcrunch has managed to make the move from blogger to inventor.  He’s teamed up with Louis Monier (former CTO of Alta Vista) to produce the ‘Crunchpad’.  It’s a 12-inch touchscreen tablet device with a Via Nano processor, 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of flash memory, a 4-cell battery, WiFi and a camera.  Apparently, the Crunchpad is built for doing time sucking Internet activities (watching movies, surfing the Web, etc) and costs just about $200 to produce, which means a $300 retail price.  Who knows if it will ever go to production, but my hat is fully off to Arrington.

Gadget Leak: Asus To Intro Larger S101, Called The S121

December 30th, 2008 5:35 PM | by Christen da Costa

Much like Dell did to the Mini 9, Asus will increase the form factor of the S101 from 10-inches to 12.  It’ll be called the S121 and the laptop’s guts, outside of the screen, will pretty much remain the same.
