Yesterday, Microsoft announced the all new Xbox, the Xbox One.  In addition to 8GB of RAM and a new processing unit housed on a single 40-nm chip, they revealed that the Xbox One will ship with a built-in 500GB HDD that was specially designed to accommodate the new console.  Sounds cool, right?  Wrong.

Word emerged today that the 500GB hard drive is not user replaceable, and since you’re required to install games to play them, such that Microsoft can limit used game sales as well as potentially monetize them, your space will rapidly run out if you play from a rather large library of games.  Fortunately, and according to Geek, there is a USB 3.0 port on the rear of the console that will work with any hard drive of your choosing and offer all the same features as the internal 500GB one.

I know it’s not that big of a deal since in all likelihood your Xbox One will remain stagnant and in a fixed position.  But we all know that consumers, even if they won’t use the option, that they like to have it.  Too many restrictions on what you can do with your hardware, as evidenced by locked smartphones, can seriously damage your brand.
