The Corsair HARPOON RGB is lightweight and comfortable, with low latency and high sensitivity, making it a worthy and affordable gaming mouse. It has great sensors and grip comfort but has inconsistent tracking, a stiff cable, and unnecessary lighting.

Product Snapshot

Overview

The Corsair HARPOON RGB is a high-end wired model that was first released back in late 2016, and it boasts a sleek aesthetic with an ambidextrous shape and is mainly geared toward gamers. Unfortunately, unlike some of the best computer mouse models out today, it doesn’t have a wireless mode. But similar to other highly-rated gaming mouse options, it features six programmable buttons (including scroll wheel) that you can customize using the ICUE software. If you need more mouse buttons, visit our Corsair Dark Core RGB Pro SE review.

The Corsair HARPOON RGB mouse, as the name suggests, features directly customizable RGB lighting and customizable lighting presets, and the RGB lighting customizations are also accessible from the same ICUE software. Sadly, at 85 grams (including the two-meter-long USB cable), it isn’t very light weight. If you need a lighter mouse, take a look at our Cooler Master MM710 Mouse review.

Consensus

our Verdict

Made of matte plastic, the Corsair HARPOON RGB features a light but sturdy build quality, and its rubber side grips make it great for players who use claw grips. Also, its iCUE software suite allows users to customize buttons and RGB lighting. The mouse boasts incredibly low latency, tested at 1 ms, and a sensitivity reaching up to 18,000 DPI.
However, it comes with caveats, such as connectivity issues, scroll wheel rigidity, and loose buttons, which can be frustrating in high-intensity scenarios. Nevertheless, it’s a sensible option for gamers seeking higher performance in FPS games and MMOs. And while it’s affordable and effective for those with small to medium-sized hands who prefer claw grip, those with larger hands may want to explore other options.

Reason to Buy

  • Good build quality
  • Long battery life
  • Suitable for all hand sizes with a claw grip
  • Excellent sensor performance
  • Lightweight mouse

Reason to Avoid

  • Not suited for large hands with palm grip
  • The cable feels stiff.
  • Inconsistent and prone to tracking errors
  • Unnecessary lighting
  • The scroll wheel is not very smooth

The Corsair HARPOON RGB Wireless is a direct successor to the Corsair HARPOON RGB wired mouse. And while the Corsair HARPOON RGB can only be used through a single wired mode, the Corsair HARPOON RGB Wireless can be used through two wireless modes (wireless dongle and Bluetooth connectivity) and through a wired connection. And the Corsair HARPOON RGB Wireless features a significantly better 10000 DPI optical sensor in comparison to the wired unit’s 6000 DPI PMW3325 sensor.

While the SteelSeries Rival 3 RGB gaming mouse comes with an 8500 DPI sensor, the Corsair HARPOON RGB only has a 6000 DPI optical sensor. The SteelSeries Rival 3 also has a much more consistent sensor, as the Corsair HARPOON RGB tends to suffer from jittering issues at the max DPI. But the HARPOON does have significantly better ergonomics than the Rival 3, thanks to its textured rubber side grips. In contrast, the HARPOON (85 grams) has a higher overall weight than the Rival 3 mouse (79 grams).

While both are wired mice, the Corsair HARPOON RGB has a significantly faster input latency of just 1 ms compared to the Logitech G203 Prodigy’s 11 ms. On the other hand, the Logitech G203 Prodigy features a significantly better sensor performance, thanks to its 8000 DPI optical sensor when put against the Corsair HARPOON RGB’s 6000 DPI sensor. And the G203 gaming mouse’s better-performing sensor is also more consistent, as the Corsair HARPOON RGB’s optical sensor frequently suffers from jittering issues.
