We’re having a hard time believing this 64GB flash drive is real, and at a whopping $5000 we’d be surprised if anyone is daring enough to test it. Not too long ago we heard rumors of Samsung flash capacities like this emerging, but this soon? Measures 3.875″x1″x .625″, and weighs just .05lbs.
Check out purchase info and full details here.
Thanks Erik

When Samsung announced a flash memory chip that would allow for 32GB, we thought they meant flash memory cards. Looks like Samsung used the chip to create a 32GB Flash-based hard drive disk. The Solid State Disk (SDD) allows for hard drive access speeds up to 3 times faster than hard drives and writes 1.5 times as fast.
The SSD is a in a 2.5″ inch drive and runs on a 66 Mhz Ultra DMA parallel ATA bus. The unit also uses just 5% of the energy of a hard drive. Can you say perfect notebook drive?
The product was launched in Taiwan.

“This message will self destruct in 5 seconds. Remember that from the days of the Mission Impossible show? Kingston’s self-destruct USB drive may not warn its hacker, nor will it disintegrate leaving a trail of smoke, but try to electronically pry your way into this device and you’ll eventually find, that is if you finally succeed after 25 times, that the USB stick’s memory has been wiped. Encrypts and decrypts data on the fly using its own on board CPU with a transfer rate of 24Mbps, and writes at 14Mbps.

Why wait for Wireless USB when you can have WiFi enabled hard drive? The best answer probably being the slow ass 54Mbps transfer rate. Nonetheless, the WiDRIVE by EDS Lab, which is in fact just a case for 1.8 x 2.5 hard drives, should make an ideal backup device for laptops. 802.11b/g compatible and expect a 2 hour battery life. Available sometime in July for $95.

Pair up this 4GB Memory Stick with the Sony MSVR-A10 video recorder and you’ll have over 8 hours of video ready for your PSP.
In less exciting news, SanDisk nnounced they were changing the color of the Memory Stick from pale blue to deep blue. Thank god! That was the only thing holding me back from buying one!

CellDisk can now safely say they have the largest thumb drive with the new 16 GB CellDisk Flash Drive. These Flash Drives are starting to make my external 20 GB FireWire jump drive look pretty silly.

Seagate announced plans at the Intel Developer Forum to release one of the first Wireless USB 2.5â€? portable hard drives. The technology of course requires that the laptop, or computer contain the appropriate WUSB chip set and be within 10′ of the HD. If you remember, WUSB provides wireless data transfer at speeds equitable to USB 2.0 (480Mbps). Speeds of WUSB are expected to eventually reach 1Gbps. Expect WUSB devices to arrive in the latter half of this year.

The Petito (as in small) USB 2.0 flash drive, by ATP Electronics, has to be one of the smallest if not the smallest flash drives we’ve ever seen. It comes in three capacities: 256MB, 512MB and 1GB; and 4 colors: dark blue, silver, gold, and titanium. This little guy measures 9.4mm x 17.6mm x 36.3mm (D x W x L), weighs less then 8 grams, and is marketed with a ’10 year data retention’. The downloadable data sheet (PDF) also lays claim to the device being waterproof. No word on price, and the link to “buy direct” is dead on the site.

If you need to transfer data from USB drive or device to another, generally speaking you need a computer. Not so if you have the Belkin USB Anywhere. Just simply plug in the drives into the corresponding ports (one for sending, and one for receiving) and hit the copy button. Watch the drive LED flash and your files are transferred. There are two transfer options: one that allows you to transfer the USB drive’s contents, and the other allows you to transfer just the ‘root’ data and not any of the USB drive’s folder contents.
Available at Belkin for $45.
