We’ve seen
designs like this before but none quite so slim (5 wide). Keep in mind that it’s from the makers of the questionable Ionic Breezes, but that doesn’t mean every tower of power they put out is shite. The iTower Omega features 4 speakers and 2 subwoofers and 1 universal
iPod
dock perched on its head. No remote, so naturally I am disappointed.
Available here for $300.

Check out these crazy speakers. Created by former BMW designer Aonghus O’hEocha and aptly named after him, they look like they’re from the movie “Mars Attacksâ€?. They cost a mere $9,000 and deliver a bass response as low as 25Hz (don’t think humans can hear that but can probably feel it). There are a “single-piece hyperboloid enclosures are made of aircraft grade aluminum and a PVC/steel composite, reinforced by 3/8″ diameter horizontal and vertical bracing rods that ensure maximum rigidity and minimize sound wave distortions.â€?
If you wanna throw down the 9000 greenbacks then go here.

Retro junkies rejoice. Speck Products has a top-loading
iPod
stereo speaker system called the
SpeckTone Retro. Sure, there are hundreds of iPod speaker systems on the market. What makes this system unique is the design.
The designers of the SpeckTone Retro have succeeded in making a product that looks modern and retro at the same time. The way they’ve paired clean modern styled lines with the nostalgic elegance of the 1950’s is very impressive. The end result is an iPod speaker system that doesn’t replicate or compete with the modern, sleek look of the iPod itself. These speakers almost feel like they could be in Lucy & Ricky’s living room.
The SpeckTone Retro sells for under $150 and has the following features:
- 28 watt output
- 4 inch subwoofer
- two 3 inch drivers
- 1/8″ mini plug auxiliary input
- Sleek & Stylish Retro design
- Analog Circuitry for rich, deep tone
- High-gloss lacquered wood cabinet
- Includes 2 free iPod skins (video & nano)
- Backlit ‘green glow’ volume knob
- compatible with the following iPods
: 4G, 5G, nano and mini
The SpeckTone Retro comes in 3 high-gloss lacquered color finishes, black, white and green, and is available from Amazon.com. Thanks to the guys at iPastudio for turning us on to this.

Check out these innovative
headphones
by Sennheiser called ‘Twist to Fit’ that stay locked in your ear via a twisty little ear bud. The pics say it best, but the question remains: how comfy are they?

Although we’re usually not ones to report on
headphones
, these little ear buds seemed worthy. Serving both those in motion and those requiring a touch of style - accessory junkies will love these - the Earmecca ‘EP series’ headphones include an earring like clip that attaches the base of the buds to the lobe. They come in 10 different styles and swivel 360 degrees when locked into place. Probably serve a purpose on the treadmill, but wait of the ‘jewel’ should be a concern.

Anyone seen the Howard Stern movie? The woman climbs on to a speaker and…anyway, you could probably plug this thing into the TV and watch you know what. Currently it’s only a concept, but check out the rest of James Owen’s work.

Although these speakers were introduced back in September of 2005, there extremely appealing from an aesthetics standpoint and apparently provide excellent sound quality. The Cascade Loudspeakers by LifeStyleDesign for Infinity are composed of compression molded real wood and extruded aluminum, and according to the press release inspired by a waterfall.
Additional info and purchase options here (expect to pay around $700 for each…we think).

Check out these crazy looking speakers that utilizes car like exhaust tubes to increase bass response - originally referred to as ‘acoustic nozzles’ by its French manufacture Haliaetus. The Firebird speakers are rated at 50-20k Hz +/- 3dB with 87dB and 6 ohms, which according to our friends over at Sonic Flare are ‘very typical’. A Stanley Cup turned sideways makes for a subwoofer version called the Booster, which is rated at an also average 25Hz.
