Audiobone 1.0 Waterproof Headphones

audio-bone-headphones

Take a dip and keep on rocking thanks to the Audiobone 1.0 headphones.  It’s not the first set of bone conducting headphones that we’ve seen and I’m sure it’s not the last.  The concept still remain novel, especially at $190 a pop.  Fortunately, they come in 4 different colors and let you listen to your tunes without cutting off the outside world, if you need that kind of thing.

Sony Announces New Bluetooth Headphones: DR-BT160AS

sony_dr_bt160as-headphones

Unfortunately, Sony’s newest headphones look at bit cooler and feature heavy than they actually are. Yup, the DR-BT160AS Bluetooth headphones are just that, headphones.  You can opt for a bundle, which includes a dongle for your iPod (looks like Sony has finally conceded on the MP3 player front), and you’ll be able to control your MP3 player and take calls directly from the headset with the built-in mic and controls.

Price unknown, but expect them sometime this October in Europe (maybe only).

3 Headphones Compatible With the iPhone Compared

shure-se110

Popularmechanics compared and reviewed 3 pairs of iPhone compatible headphones.  Two of them are on sale at 6ave.  Go here to pick up the coupon codes and you can get them for far less than advertised.

As for the earphones, they gave good marks to both the Shure SE110s and the Skull Candy FMJs.  How Popular Mechanics determined that the iPhone headphones are ’solid sound’ is beyond me, and makes me question the other reviewed headphones; the whole credibility thing.

Go here to see the quick and dirty reviews.

Klipsch Announces Larger x5 Headphones and Passes Savings On To You

klipsch-x5-headphones

I didn’t even know about these headphones, but apparently they’re the bomb. This time around (this is Kilpsh’s second iteration) the Image X5 are slightly larger in size than the originals, - 2mms larger - but in turn cost slightly less. The original X5 headphones will now be referred to as the X10s. According to Klipsch, the X5 “utilizes translucent patent-pending Contour Ear Gels that are anatomically designed to fit comfortably inside the human ear canal…From a performance perspective, the X5 uses a balanced full-range armature driver with a tuned bass-reflex system for crisp, clear highs and deep, impressive lows. Technology-wise, the X5 and the original differ in that the X10 uses an exclusive balanced full-range armature micro-driver. The X10 is meant for listeners who prefer a lot of bass in their music, while the X5 has a superior top end with more forward voicing.”

The Image X5 will cost you $249.99 and will be available online and retail stores later this month.

Klipsch® Builds upon Image Headphone Popularity with New Model
Latest X5 brings new price point, design and sound signature to newly formed earphone family

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS (June 4, 2008) — Following their introduction last November, Klipsch’s award-winning Image headphones instantly became a fan favorite among reviewers, making a name for themselves as the world’s smallest, lightest full-range earphone design. Today, the company is expanding the Image line to include the slightly larger X5, which brings another premium sound signature to this newly formed family.

According to Tony Ostrom, Klipsch director of product marketing, the Image X5 is bigger than its predecessor by only 2mm in diameter. This minimal size difference makes the X5 easier and slightly less expensive to manufacture, so the company can pass the savings on to the end user. However, Ostrom mentioned that these headphones are still considered very small, very lightweight and will continue the Image legacy of being the least fatiguing in-ear headphones around.

“Image’s overnight success was a sure sign that we needed to make it a family affair, allowing us to meet the expectations of several different consumer types,” said Ostrom. “With the addition of the X5, we are renaming the original Image the X10 and establishing it as the flagship model within the line.”

Like the original, the X5 utilizes translucent patent-pending Contour Ear Gels that are anatomically designed to fit comfortably inside the human ear canal. These soft, oval silicon tips reduce ear fatigue and provide an amazing seal for excellent noise isolation along with increased bass response. Because ear canal measurements vary, each X5 comes with five different-sized ear gels: small, medium, and large single flange designs as well as small and large double flange designs. That way, virtually everyone can find the precise fit and noise reduction they desire.

From a performance perspective, the X5 uses a balanced full-range armature driver with a tuned bass-reflex system for crisp, clear highs and deep, impressive lows. Technology-wise, the X5 and the original differ in that the X10 uses an exclusive balanced full-range armature micro-driver. The X10 is meant for listeners who prefer a lot of bass in their music, while the X5 has a superior top end with more forward voicing.

“The X5 continues Klipsch’s sound signature by performing accurately in the frequency and time domain, minimizing any phase distortion with its linear acceleration. As a result, you’ll hear things in your favorite recordings you never noticed before,” said Mark Blanchard, Klipsch senior acoustic designer. “The X5’s versatility and rugged design make it an excellent choice for `road warriors,’ students or anyone else who wants no-compromise audio, extreme levels of comfort and fashion-forward style.”

Image X5 headphones feature electroplated aluminum housings and streamlined, aerodynamic-shaped black “tails.” These flexible tails reduce cable stress and serve as an acoustic damper to minimize cable noise.

By adding strain relief at every cable connection point to help prevent wire damage to their 50-inch-long vinyl cables, Klipsch has made the X5 headphones as durable as they are stylish. In general, the basic Image family design has also undergone hours of extensive “real world” testing.

The Image X5 is compatible with the iPod®, iPhone™ and virtually any device with a standard headphone jack. These headphones also come with a carrying pouch, an airplane adaptor, the above-mentioned ear gels and an ear gel cleaning tool.

Priced at $249.99 (U.S. MSRP), Image X5 headphones will be available for purchase at select retail locations and on klipsch.com later this month. As a bonus, purchasers who complete an online warranty registration will receive a free package of replacement Contour Ear Gels in the size of their choice.

HeadPhones by Dr. Dre …And What!?

By: Jeff Bordeaux

Act like you ain’t not heard, or maybe you have. For those who haven’t, Monster Cable is releasing some high end headphones mutually designed by themselves as well as Dr. Dre. Two years in the making, it will be interesting to see how the consumer/musician/producer/DJ will view and use these thangs. Will they use them as actual studio reference monitors, or will they use them at the gym with their iPhones? Will DJ’s use them as well and will they sound best playing back “The Chronic”? A price of $399 should help separate peeps in casual and professional settings as well as be a possible deterrent to anyone involved in other genres of music besides hip-hop. Will it be any good for Metal or Country? Hitting the “Streets” this June, we will see the outcome of this strangely ambiguous product. The site suggests nothing of either scenario, though Dre is best know as a producer right? So you would think they would be studio reference monitors? Or everyday consumer headphones? Both?

Simple $20 iPhone Car Integration

iSonTalk iPhone Adapter
How so you ask? Start by purchasing an iSonTalk Microphone Headphone Adapter and a cassette-to-3.5mm adapter. Next, plug everything in into its respective receptacles. Crank your tunes and take a spin around town. When a call comes, simply click the mic’s answer button, the music stops, and the caller should be heard over the car’s stock speakers. I’m not sure on the feedback implications of the mic picking up the caller’s voice (it’s designed for headphone use), but if all goes right it’s a super cheap yet slick iPhone integration into any car with a cassette deck, and it’s only $20 (plus whatever the cassette adapter costs you).

Available here for $20.

Plantronics Introduces Military Grade Bluetooth Headset: Explorer 370

Plantronics 370
Plantronics unleashed their new Bluetooth headset today: the Explorer 370. It’s certified to MIL-STD 810 standards. In English, that means it’s United States Army approved. It sounds like it can survive everything just short of a nuclear winter - water, dust and shock resistant. The Explorer 370 also includes ‘windscreen technology’ to minimize the whisping we’re all so familiar with, especially if you’ve lived in Chitown or Boston. Sounds like the perfect headset for those who like to run triathlons in the rain.

Available in March ‘08 for $80.
