Well, I guess I was wrong, it is week 41 for Walmart! Because today that leaked deal, the Xbox 360 Arcade console with $100 Gift Card for $199, it’s now live. Unfortunately, it looks like it’s available in stores only, but they’ve got it listed on their website, so it doesn’t get more official than that!
Update: I’m hearing the sale start this Saturday, 11/7, despite Walmart already listing it on their site.

In what’s shaping up to be one of the biggest game releases ever, today has found that MW2 will have two separate strategy guides. One of them is the normal guide that you’d find for most all games, but the other is the “premium” strategy guide.
Oh snap you might say?
All that is different between the two besides the price difference is that the “premium” one will hard bound and that it will divulge how to get all of the achievements and trophies.
I personally think it is a waste to buy a guide for any COD game but from a business standpoint, which it always is, this is a great idea. Milk them udders!
Say it like Satan would. Slow and bellowing…BUY NOW!!!!

While it’s a far reach from “Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition“, Ubisoft’s “Splinter Cell: Conviction” Collector’s Edition is looking like some good bang for your buck, that is assuming you’re into this kind of crap. Included is a USB flash drive with all sorts of Splinter Cell media, a hard-bound copy of “Fifth Freedom: The Art of Splinter Cell”, two in game items (MP5-SD3 submachine gun and a 3rd Echelon outfit for multiplayer), decals, “Digging in the Ashes” comic book and a metallic steel case.
The CE version of “Splinter Cell: Conviction” will also launch on 2/23 and cost $79.99.

As we draw closer to holiday shopping time we are seeing more and more Black Friday deals revealed. And while many of those have been issued from the retailer themselves, Walmart looks to be holding out a bit longer, that it until today when an ‘off the chain’ Xbox 360 deal was leaked out.
According to the above screen shot the ‘Rollback’ retailer will be selling an Xbox 360 Arcade console for $199 with a $100 gift card, which essentially brings the total price to $99 (plus tax). The only thing that doesn’t make sense is that it says ‘weekly events – week 41′. The problem with that is that we’re already in week 42 of the year, but let’s hope they’re working off a fiscal calendar.

Hardcore zombie fans rejoice, because Valve, the makers of Left 4 Dead, have just released a demo of Left 4 Dead 2, the highly anticipate co-op game to Xbox Live Gold members. That’s right, you can download it right now!
I played the first one and though I can’t say I was addicted it’s definitely an entertaining experience. The co-op aspect makes the game all the more fun and the arcade style feel makes it an easy ‘pick up and play’.
The sequel to the best-selling and critically-acclaimed co-operative multiplayer smash from Valve®, Left 4 Dead™ 2 promises to become one of 2009’s top-selling games and set a new benchmark for co-operative action games. Left 4 Dead 2 takes place at roughly the same time as the original, and leads four new “Survivors” through the southeastern United States — from Savannah, Georgia to New Orleans’ French Quarter. The title adds melee combat, new monsters and weapons, the AI Director 2.0, and more to create a larger game than the original. Visit www.l4d.com for more information.

Remember that special edition Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 console we wrote about back in September? It’s now available for preorder from Amazon for $399.99. Included is a massive 250GB hard drive, two black Xbox 360 wireless controllers, wired headset, the Modern Warfare 2 game and an Xbox 360 with an exclusive Modern Warfare 2 design. For this kind of cash I’d at least expect an HDMI cable to be included.

For those of you that subscribe to the NetFlix-esque video game rental service, the GameFly GameCenter app is now available for free in the App Store. More than just access to your queue, the GameFly GameCenter has a news feed, tons of user reviews, and instantly accessible “most popular” games list.
I’d go as far as to say that that even if you don’t belong to GameFly (it’s hard to get new releases but buying used games is the cheapest around), the app is still a cool alternative to the IGN app in terms of user reviews and news.

It’s finally nice to see the Ps3 getting some exclusive and free DLC these days. the newest of these offerings comes by the way of Brutal Legend. The epic fantasy nod to all things metal will receive it’s first DLC next month with a multiplayer map pack entitled “Tears of the Heaxadon”.
With the DLC being released on both the Ps3 and the Xbox 360. the PS3 version will be the only one that’s free. Available from November 5th until November 19th the content will be free at the PSN store, while the Xbox 360 version will cost 400 MS points when the DLC arrives on November 3rd.
That reminds me, I gotta put this game in my GameFly queue.

I have to admit I’m somewhat happy about this development and at the same time somewhat unnerved by it. After the incredible success of Fallout 3, and what will likely be the success of Fallout 3: Game of the Year edition and its numerous attendant DLC titles, it’s not too surprising to see that more and more games are saying “me, too!” and taking a run at post-Apocalyptia.
First we got Borderlands, which is clearly trying its heart out to be the next Fallout 3. But now, recent announcements have been made about another such title, Metro 2033 from THQ.
Set in the sprawling Moscow subway system, you play a man out to warn the survivors of apocalyptic near-annihilation about a new threat, one that’s even worse than rival subway stations vying against each other for the last scraps of scraps and the nightmares roaming the surface of Moscow itself.
This is slated for release in “early 2010″, which will completely miss the Christmas shopping season, but may get a sliver of that sweet crack known as gift card season. You’ll be able to get it for PC and Xbox 360, and if standards hold, will run about $60 for console and $50 for PC.
I find myself of mixed emotions about this–while I personally loved Fallout 3, I’m hopeful that its imitators will be at least passably good. But last time someone promised me something like that–”Oblivion-killer”, anyone?–I got stuck with TWO WORLDS.
And no one needs more of that.
